Not gonna lie, i stopped moving for a good amount (8 minutes total to be exact) not only because i was in awe at how this later part of the Temple looked overall, but also because of this music. It didn't just send shivers down my spine, it outright terrified me.
This place is not meant for mere humans. Death is but a relief in comparison. A Sanctuary made to contain pure evil and malice, held back by the Lifestream.

      Different reasons.
Cloud can knock out or kill Shinra soldiers, no one will care. Usually in self defense.
But the moment Cloud enjoys it, killing them in a way where it befits a murderer, something that isn't Cloud, then its terrifying.
Clive comes from an era that fighting and killing is the same.

@@VioletMaeve I find the enjoyment angle to be somewhat of a stretch, at least from the party's perspective. From the outside you'd hardly know what he feels, given that he hardly ever emotes. Meanwhile, when party members kill a dozen soldiers they might sing the FF victory theme and say something witty.
When Cloud gets into one of his particular episodes, they try to portray the violence as being "too far" due to the fact that he's spilling blood (which is rather cheap and inconsistent with how guns, claws, and swords usually work).
While it is uncharacteristic for him to menacingly finish the job of killing someone (though he was totally gonna do that to Johnny in Remake), I find it far more unsettling to hear him regurgitate Sephiroth's philosophies like a deranged cultist, and then be dismissive to his friends. Those are bigger red flags than him shedding blood while being a badass during the Gongaga reactor incident.

That's what I was thinking. City of the Ancients second visit leads basically right into the finale of the game - to the firing of the Sister Ray, Hojo cleanup(which, just like end of Chapter 12, would be a great "explore the planet before the finale" segment) and then Northern Crater.

Absolutely loved this game, but was surprised how they handled the Forgotten City at the end. This song (which is when it was originally played in OG FF7) would have been PERFECT for the final scene in the Forgotten City. Imagine listening to the beginning of this track as you are heading through the city to meet with Aerith praying at the altar. Again, I have so few criticisms for the game, but this song seems to be written for that moment and they just didn't do it.

FF7 Rebirth blew my expectations out the water when I finished this game. This was literally one of the best single player games I’ve played in my life. My one complaint is why is everyone hating on this game ???!! I understand the mini games are boring but what about queens blood ?? Wish they would make that a mobile card game online itself. But As a OG player to the original. I think this is becoming far better. I get the multiverse is confusing but the way they are going about this is actually brilliant. It just shows we underestimated Aerith powers and sephiroth from the original. If anyone played the original and watched advent children then you should know this isn’t a remake, it’s continuing. And I can’t wait to see what the 3rd game is going to bring. I can guarantee you that the final game will have the most epic boss fight in the history of games! Remember these last 2 games sephiroth hasn’t even tried 100% to fight us with all his powers… BTW I think the 3rd game will be called FF7: Homecoming

From a storytelling perspective it makes perfect sense to lace Sephiroth 's motif in there. The initial premise of the level is that you are racing Sephiroth to the materia. So you are meant to feel paranoid about running into him. But as you progress further and further you gradually become more suspicious that you are being played and Sephiroth WANTS you to get there first. Although, hate to be a downer, but this was one of the few times the game gave me chills - and those chills ended in bitter disappointment. The entire game felt like an unending series of forced upon mini games. But when we finally got here, it started feeling right. Then... they botched Aeris' death. Completely. The greatest milestone in gaming history shredded.
Absolutely mindboggling to me how an almost 30 year old game, with characters that consisted of 30-some polygons and a MIDI track could invoke more emotion that a game with millions of polys in frame and an arrange OST.
