  • Hello everyone,
    Coke Studio Bangla is back, and with that I am back as well with my reactions!
    Find the original video • Murir Tin | Coke Studi...
    Comment rules:
    - be respectful to each other in the comments
    - no hate, no racism
    - no politics
    FIND ME ON INSTAGRAM: ms.jolajola
    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
    Where are you from?
    - I am from Germany, born and raised. A couple of years ago I relocated to Australia and been living there ever since.
    Can you understand Urdu and Hindi?
    - I sadly can’t understand both languages fully, neither can I speak them. However I am able to understand a few words and certain phrases.
    Why haven’t you reacted to my recommendation yet?
    - Every day I receive countless recommendations from you guys, which I am grateful for. I am trying to read all the comments but it does happen that I miss some out. The main factor is probably my working schedule which doesn’t allow me to film videos daily. Most weeks I can only find a couple of hours in the afternoon to film 2-3 videos. Of course I’d love to film more and film all of your recommendations, however I’m trying to stick with 1 or 2 uploaded videos a week. Quality over quantity.
    Are you religious?
    - I am not.

    Nice to see you, Jola. Hope you've been in good health. As you could tell from the lyrics, the song's about the chaotic daily journeys in rusty local buses. The first guy is a passenger, singing in native Chittagonian (Local language of Chattogram). The second one is the helper or fare collector. He's using Sylheti (Local language of Sylhet). And the last one is the driver, singing in the local of Jessore/Khulna. It's entirely composed of casual dialogues, which makes it really relatable for the natives..... I mean, it's already something like a theme song here in Chattogram. 😅

  • @nafisahmed9095
    @nafisahmed9095 Před rokem +13

    the song represents 3 different dialects of three major cities in Bangladesh. Chattogram is best known for sea beach as in Cox's Bazar, Sylhet is best known for its hilltracks and tea gardens while Khulna is best known for "chuijhal- spicy meat" and tigers. there are some flavours of all of these in the song. Though "murir tin" indicates something slang like "wasted vehicle", the classicality has established some empathies in bangladeshi people.

    • @Frank_Rijkaard_07
      @Frank_Rijkaard_07 Před 2 měsíci

      Chittagonian is a language. Not dialect like khulnaia.

  • @Legend-fd1xb
    @Legend-fd1xb Před rokem +30

    The name Murir Tin has double meaning. Muri is "Puffed rice" and Tin means a container made of steel. so Murir Tin is a container where you keep your Puffed Rice. The thing Mithun Chakra was using as a percussion at the beginning of the track is actually a Murir Tin!
    But it was also a cute name given to a type of colorful local bus back in the 80's and 90s because the conception used to be that they made the body of the bus by literally reforming and putting together lots of Puffed Rice containers and instead of puffed rice it contained passengers. it used to run in different regions of Bangladesh, very slow but packed with people. the bus fare used to be the cheapest. which was why it was very popular among the public.
    The song is about the things that happen or the conversations that takes place in the bus. no matter where the bus is at, they are the same. unifying the regions. you also see/hear lot of things happening simultaneously both in the song and on the stage, kind of chaotic in nature. the real scenario while you are riding that bus is also the same. i think they absolutely nailed the essence of being a passenger in a Murir Tin.
    The song here was sung in Bangla but in three different regional dialects.
    Though it is tough to say these languages are dialects. It seems almost new languages. Even we Bangali had to look at the subtitles to understand the lyrics! The Khulnaiya dialect is little bit close to the standard Bangla.
    Intro and the hook - Chatgaiyan(Chittagong division),
    1st Rap - Sylheti(Sylhet division),
    2nd Rap - Khulnaiya(Khulna division).
    The song in three different dialects also bears a different feel to the people of Bangladesh because it's the month of international mother language day. on 21st February 1952 lots of people gave their lives to protect their mother tongue(Bangla). the government armed forces opened fire on the unarmed public who were protesting against the government for trying to make Urdu the national language where majority of the people in undivided Pakistan spoke Bangla.
    The song has four perspective, first singer is the passanger who become annoyed with bus and journey, the background vocal is helper who helps people to ride on or off from bus instructs driver about front, 2nd singer (Sylhet guy) is conductor who collects fare and arrange passanger inside the bus and third one (Toufiq) is the bus driver who complaints on road and passanger.... Its typical for us.

    This song is sung primarily in the native dialect of Chottogram (the port city in the southeast of the country). The 2nd person raps in the dialect of Sylhet (from the northeast) and the 3rd person raps in the dialect of western part of the country. The song is very catchy. My 4 year old nephew listens to this song everyday.

    All 03 singers are singing in Bengali. The issue is - there are 64 districts in Bangladesh and Bengali language has almost 64 variations/dialects or accent. Among them the districts named Chittagonj, Sylhet and Khulna have some of the most " radical " versions, I would say. City People, especially from Dhaka, often hardly understand those dialects. These singers are representing these 03 districts by singing in those dialectics.

    This full song is in Bengali but in a local regional language. that is why its pronunciation is different. And Only one region of Bangladesh people uses it. and the Bengali people can't understand this song fully since it's different from as usual Bengali language. And the music has similarities with Nepal India Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Since these, are all part of the Indian subcontinent.
    and here it represents 3 regions one is Chittagong, Sylhet, and Khulna. Cox's Bazar is a part of Chittagong which is the largest sea beach, Sylhet is famous for its hilly area, and Khulna is famous for chuijhal. And the largest mangrove forest is located here and is known as Shundarban and Royal Bengal Tiger is an asset of it.
    1st one sings in Chittagong regional language, 2nd one Sylheti, and 3rd one is from Khulna. nowadays we don't see old days local buses more in our city but we find them in Khulna, Chittagong, and Sylhet we use to call the local bus murir tin. we use this to travel to save costs and travel inside of a local region. This bus always takes more passengers than its capacity and its body is rusty and not in a thoroughly sound condition for driving. and there is not enough space to sit comfortably. But this bus helps to save cost and to travel inside a region.
