Nerfs Incoming to Shadow of the Erdtree

  • Im not sure if many people remember that when Elden Ring initially released... It got a massive wave of people saying it was too hard then. The result? Radahn and Malenia got nerfed. Forever keeping people from being able to say they beat here on the same field as everyone else. My guess is that we are going to see the same thing happened to enemies and bosses in this DLC as well if the cry train keeps chugging along.

    Out of the 18K negative reviews, 11K are from Chinese players, most of which are complaining about EAC.
    Info from Steam Scout.
    The biggest issues with the DLC are performance issues and some OP ashes of war, the difficulty complaints just get the most clicks, just like the controversy about Elden Ring needing an easy mode early into the lifecycle of the game. This too will pass.
    Swift Slash needs a nerf for PvP though, that ash of war is practically undodgeable even to the best PvP players because it can basically pop instantly and has large AoE that always stagger, hit hard and deal status buildup.

    the elden ring dlc was very disappointing. and im saying this as somebody with 1.3 thousand hours in the game and another thousand in Dark Souls 3. I do not have a skill issue and have already gotten good, rest assured. The difficulty factor of the bosses seems to be mostly gimmick attacks like waterfoul dance. if you get bad or average rng youre going to die, but if you get good rng you can kill the boss easily. I was struggling with messmer for a while until i randomly beat him while only using 2 heals. im talking from not even consistently getting to the 2nd phase to getting his healthbar to 0. i found the golden hippo and divine beasts to be easily the best bosses because they require no such rng. also, the 8 new weapon types are so disappointing. Im mainly a pvp guy, and 3 of the 8 weapon types are needlessly overpowered. a newbie to pvp can almost kill me while using backhand blade, thrusting shields, beast claws, and if they manage to get me with the ash of war from a purfume its game over. on top of that the dlc adds performance issues throughout the entire game, not just the dlc. I am so profoundly disappointed that I waited 2 years and spent 50$ CAD to have this weaker than average experience, especially when compared to the dlcs from DS1 and DS3. of course my opinions can change, but I predict that if you play the other fromsoftware DLCs you will find that this one is a weak link.

    • @unixtreme
      @unixtreme Před 8 dny +2

      Playing 1.3k hours doesn't immediately mean you have no skill issues. I've seen people with 10k hours in games and still stuck in the lowest leagues.
      What you have in common with them oddly enough is blaming RNG, it really makes you think.

    • @caleebsterthe3rd719
      @caleebsterthe3rd719 Před 8 dny

      I'll be real, there isn't much gimmick to the dlc, it's just a ramp up of skill requirement. Other than a bit of bayle and gaius, there isn't really rng moves. Messmer is a pretty easy boss with telegraphed moves so obviously everyone's different but either your build was bad or you just aren't used to hoe fast elden ring is compared to older games. And come on you can't be serious about previous games having better dlc, ariandel was a pathetic excuse for a full priced dlc, and u can't complain about rng when literally Halflight Spear entire design was rng pvp. Like nothing fromsoft has done has been that rng. I can't speak on the pvp scene rn cuz I don't play for that but I've seen the horrors lol. Keep and open mind and learn bosses rather than roll r1 spam like how it was in old games. That's the beauty in these games

    • @NinjaContravaniaManX
      @NinjaContravaniaManX Před 8 dny

      I also have mixed feelings about the DLC. I don't have 1500 hours in ER, but played through the main game often enough and have beaten some ACTUAL hard games (NES classics, ALTF4 etc.), that I can safely say it's not a skill issue. Biggest problem I have with the DLC is the camera. Yes, it's the same system as in the main game. But in the DLC, the ratio of too big and too fast bosses, combined with often too small arenas and a lock-on system that was never great to begin with, is just too high. It clearly shows its limitations here. Most of the time, all I see are walls or the boss' ass in my face.
      Also, the exploration feels kinda lackluster. There are too many places where I felt there should be something, but then there's nothing or just a bunch of arrows, smithing stones etc. ... not very rewarding for an end game area imho.
      But I'm surprised I don't have performance issues. I never had any microstuttering or severe framedrops. I only have a 2070 Super and a 5800X3D + 32GB RAM, but I don't play with raytracing. Maybe that's the reason. Or maybe the 3D-cache of the 5800X3D is enough to bruteforce through some caching issues, I don't know... I also play offline, so I don't have those stupid messages on the floor. I don't like to have my immersion broken by clowns or secrets spoilered.
      Conclusion: Instead of tweaking a few numbers on the bosses, they should finally improve their camera/lock on system. But I highly doubt that will happen.

    • @plowshares1458
      @plowshares1458 Před 8 dny

      I just feel like Elden Ring has way weaker boss design than DS3 . The main problem I have with DLC bosses in comparison to base game, is that they have way more hp. So you either have a build with status effects or you have to deal with the need to hit them 50+ times, while getting two or one shot urself. This is extra bad since almost every boss in the base game is way weaker, except malenia (who's only a challenge because of waterfoul dance) and radahn pre nerf. Fromsoftware might even expect way different character lvls for the dlc. I started the dlc at lvl 80 (since I wanted to play pvp invasions, with the new weapons) but the dlc is probably intended for 120+ if not more.
      Elden Ring isn't hard, there are just too many factors playing into it, which make bosses either easy or tedious. DS3,DS2,DS1 and Bloodborne factors were way more limiting and I think the DLC's were better for those games atleast in the department of challenge.
