  • Over 5,000,000 teeth are lost annually in sports-related injuries. This video shows you how to make a custom thermoplastic vacuum-formed sports mouthguard that can help your patient and save their teeth. In the video, we use the Pro-Form material, but the video was not sponsored or supported by the manufacturer.
    Pro-form does not contain latex, BPA, gluten, or monomer. See:

    I want to say thank you fot this video!
    With the help of this video, I was able to make my own guard. My 1st pair (a thinner and a thicker one) was 50€ in 2013. Now I should pay 400€. I have made my 1st guard already. Now cost ~2€/pc.

    Doesn't heating the scalpel wreck the blade.We use a device similar to an electric hand held soldering iron.

    Is there any block out needed around gingival margins? So not to iritare gumline of patient? Or is that a simple chair side adjustment? Thank you fornthe great video!

      @CuringLights  Před měsícem

      In cases of severe undercuts, maybe. It is a case-by-case situation. No blockout is required usually.

    I did this and now the heel of the occlusal guard touches early when biting down. I cannot bite down all the way. I want to make it again, How do I prevent this from happening again?

    • @CuringLights
      @CuringLights  Před rokem +1

      Yes, that is because the jaw is a hinge. This is not meant to be a bite plane. However, if you flame the heel and ask the patient to bite into the warmed, not super hot plastic, then they will achieve an even occlusion. The trick is not to make the plastic too hot, but hot enough so that the pt can bite into it.

    Can you make a Sports Mouthguard with this device? Can you create a dual layer mouthguard? (if you can, is it the same like making the single layer mouthguard but you just add one more layer?)

      Usually EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) Resin material for vacuum forming machines. Sports mouth guards should be 4mm/.15-.16" sheets.

      No problem at all, it is a custom mouthguard made on a model of your teeth so it fits even if your teeth are uneven.
