  • This build is a little bit different from my other builds since it is not a Cafe Racer, but the restoration of a Vintage Sportbike: a 1988 Yamaha FZR1000 Genesis!
    This bike is intended to ride on track during vintage bike track days & events.

      Yep, I had a 88
      FZR1000... rebuilt it with a 750 bottom end making a 911cc machine, had it it Superbike magazine ridden by the late Sonic against a YZF 750 with an exup motor in it in about 94. Loved it until it tried to kill me.

    It's funny, time.....
    To me a vintage motorcycle is from the 60's or earlier.
    My first street bike was an 84 Honda Ascot. My 2nd was an 87 Yamaha FZ700.
    To see this FZR1000 being presented as a "vintage" bike makes me feel really old.

    • @James_Sovereign
      @James_Sovereign Před 3 lety +1

      Vintage, as a general rule of thumb, is older than 30 years. This bike just scrapes in. I wouldn't have considered this bike vintage at first glance either. Classic? Yes. Vintage? Only technically.

    • @uhtred7860
      @uhtred7860 Před 2 lety

      Its interesting how the twin light style came about, in the early to mid 80s the race replica craze was about to kick off big time. Racing was big, in particular endurance racing, Endurance races quite often go into the night or even 24 hrs, so the bikes need lights, most endurance racers had a single headlight mounted to the left or right of center line. When the Japanese factories started making race replicas, they used the endurance racer bikes for styling cues. They would have copied the single offset headlight, BUT most countries had rules and regulations about headlights and in a lot of places rules said they had to be in the middle or symmetrical. So they went with symmetrical double lights. :-)
