  • Our favorite tacos in Los Angeles can be found at Sonoratown in Downtown L.A. This taqueria opened in 2016 in the Fashion District, and within months was already drawing long lines. The secret to their success? Their Sonoran-style flour tortillas made with pork lard and their delicious meat grilled over mesquite wood. You may already have seen them featured on the Netflix show Taco Chronicles, but now you get to come with us behind the scenes to see how these legendary flour tortillas are made. You’ll also get to watch us try their signature dishes, including the tacos, chivichangas, and caramelos. We interviewed founder Jennifer Feltham, who opened the taco shop together with her boyfriend Teo Diaz, who grew up in Sonora, Mexico. Soon, Sonoratown will be expanding and opening a second Los Angeles location later this year.

As an LA native, I can 100% confirm that Sonoratown is legit! They don't have a multiple-page menu, so what sets them apart is the quality of their ingredients, preparation, and execution. The tortillas taste a bit better than the ones from chipotle or a taco truck, the meat is more smoky and tender and less grisly, and even the salsas have a depth of flavor that you can't get from most places.
Not gonna lie, I thought your channel would be some bougie channel that wouldn't appreciate food like this, so I'm pleasantly surprised you featured them!!!

I totally agree with you, SonoraTown is the best. Those tortillas are the main reason why, I've never had a flour tortilla that good. Straight fire! The meat is so tasty, everything is just simply so good on its own . I am in South Florida but every time i think of food in LA ,i think of this place. Great video loved the behind scenes of the tortilla production and the interview with the owner.

It is believed that flour tortillas indeed first began in the state of Sonora. That being said, Mexico does have better tacos than any place in America just because the ingredients are native to Mexico, with that level of freshness is impossible to compete with, some taquerias even nixtamalize their own corn for tortillas right there in the store.

L.A. is very close to Mexico and has a huge Mexican population. It's overall an amazing city for Mexican food. Based on our experience eating a lot in both Mexico and Southern California, we think Sonoratown rivals the very best places in Mexico.

@@elemir17 My family is from Obregon. From my experience, the tacos there are not any better than Sonoratown. The biggest difference is price. For one taco at Sonoratown ($3.50), you can probably get like 7 in Obregon for the same amount of money (10 pesos/$0.50 each).
