Stefan teaches Blind Willie McTell's "Wake Up Mama" in open D tuning on bottleneck/slide guitar. From the 2 DVD Set "Bottleneck Blues Guitar." More info at www.guitarvide...
I really like when Stefan sings. He has a awesome album I listen to and he sings a bunch on it
Fantastic lesson, Stefan. Classic yet fresh and inspiring. You make a great sound.
Stefan is a true 'Blues Master' This is from his AWESOME 2 DVD set. All of his teaching DVD's are a fantastic value & well worth the small amount of money spent for each. He has a very easy way of teaching to unlock the mystery of the fretboard and Piedmont picking blues!
Excellent video. Fantastic teacher... You are the Best!!!
I have a couple of Stefan's tab books, and enjoy them. My complaint is that the audio examples included on the cd's sometimes don't appear to be the same arrangement tabbed out in the book. The example he includes on this one on CD sounds like a Rory Block arrangement. Anyhow, if you're having a problem getting your version to sound like his, check out other versions he has on-line.
Great song for a newer player.... thanks for sharing this.
Love the spoon lady as chris
Cant seem to play any of your u-tube videos. i get the audio but no video. Anyone else have this problem?
That equals true, he's a great instructor, even though he does kinda look like Angel in Dexter in this vid.
Stella Oscar Schmidt auditorium!
The song is called Statesboro Blues....NOT "Wake Up Mama." Hard to believe you have a 3-part series on this classic Blind Willie McTell song with the wrong song title. But with that Yankee accent, I guess it's understandable. :)
Blind Willie stole that song from me, whatchoosayin'fool?
Just to correct the correction: McTell's "Statesboro Blues" is not a slide song but has the same progression. (The Allman Brothers made Statesboro Blues a slide song, of course . . .) This is McTell's Mamma, Tain´t Long Fo´ Day, which is commonly known as Wake Up Mama. Common lyrics . . .
You are very mistaken.
This bloke was taught by Rev Davis, he knows what's what.
This sounds like some of the licks the Allman's used in Statesboro Blues, but the actual Blind Willie McTell Statesboro Blues doesn't have a slide, or an "A" (V)chord
want to hear it right hear Ernie Hawkins-----Stefan loses the whole effect and ambience. He can`t help but try to add a jazz aspect to everything.
try tom feldman
Agree -- it's in dropped D, not open D.
Want to hear it 'right', listen to McTell's original recording. This is a lesson, not a performance video. No one sounds like the other, so it's a matter of preference, but I don't know about that 'jazz aspect', which you hear and which you don't really describe in your comment.
Fuller Johnson h
B W McT never recorded anything titled 'Wake up Mama' ......so Stefan can do what the f he wants and he can't be wrong........
My children love me with the name Mama. The world around beats me down with the name woman unaware that is womb man transgender.
