I’d like to see a good breakdown on how and why exactly the main line went liberal. What is the second great awakening an issue with that? Did that influence Echo down and impact the main line 70 or 80 years later? I would like to know what I’d like to have some details. I’ve actually googled into this and outside of ready to harvest I haven’t seen anything on this at all

  • @oscarfabi_

The first great awakening was true because if you read the sermons of Whitefield, Wesley, Edwards it is only biblical exposition on fire (no altar calls or experience emphasis really) just a call to repentance and faith in Christ. The second, however, was filled with heresy, emotionalism and pelagians like Finney

We left the PCUSA over 30 years ago because they were debating gay marriage and gay ordination (among other things) at that time. Our minster wasn't sure abortion was wrong, and one of the women elders openly did not believe in the Trinity. While I admire your hope to change the PCUSA, we could not stay and let our children be taught in that denomination. Even at that time, I am not sure many of the members were even believers. I think believing in the Trinity is a non-negotiable. We are in an incredibly healthy and growing ARP (Associate Reformed Presbyterian) church. We have strong expository preaching, we sing beautiful hymns and psalms and use the regulative principle of worship. I thank God for our church, because there are so many non-denominational evangelical ones that have watered down their theology, teaching, and worship. Revival in the PCUSA would likely require a supernatural great awakening, because most of the true bible believers have left by now (other than some internal missionaries like yourself). Nice work on your videos!

There are some people that I'd argue it would be very bad for them to "stay and fight." Your case, since you have kids, definitely seems like one. I'd also say baby Christians and fragile Christians, such as those with a background of religious OCD or legalistic trauma should not attend such churches. Only those who are strong in the faith should even attempt such a thing since you need sound doctrine as a foundation first. I appreciate those who take on this mission. I personally live in a rural area where such a thing doesn't even exist. There are no large mainline churches within reasonable distance so I can't contribute either even if I wanted to.

Redeemed zommer, you build beautiful churches in Minecraft. May I recommend city building games like SimCity or Cities Skylines where you can build Christ-centered cities in creative mode, so to speak. The modding communities have created mods where you can add various churches, and you can create your own as well. I thought about these games when you mentioned Christians taking back the liberal cities. It might be something worth considering.

I want to nuance this by saying that the First Great Awakening really wasn't an abandonment of tradition anymore than the Reformation was. It was preachers reviving within existing denominations. Even John Wesley. He didn't intend to start a Methodist denomination; only to reform the Church of England. That split was more a result of political events than religious ones.
The Second Great Awakening, however, absolutely was a true break from tradition as you had people, some of whom weren't Christian to begin with, actually starting brand new churches that were attempting to "restore" the church of the first century, on top of a lot of previously unheard of apocalypticism, and people introducing beliefs that were alien to Christianity and writing entirely new gospels to justify the shift.

@@Avram_Orozco Yes, I have firsthand experienced bad forms of conservative Baptists. Growing up Baptist, I'm not sure I even heard the gospel preached. The focus was more on rules than anything. However, you cannot generalize all Baptists because of some bad ones. Baptists are some of the most genuine and loving Christians you'll meet. They also aren't wrong on everything, such that water baptism doesn't regenerate. I just think their form of church government is bad since it gives too much leeway to those with nefarious intentions.

"no one is good except the Father". Also 7 is the number of perfection and completion. Do you think God would say animals eating each other and dying of cancer was "very good"?
      2. "cursed is the ground for thy sake" "Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee". God cursed the world because of Adams sin. There were not even thorns before sin. "the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now" because of mans sin and the fall.
      3. When Christ returns to defeat death and sin and redeem the world it will be like before Adams sin. "The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them. 7The cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8The nursing child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the adder’s den. 9They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea."

Hey, St Peter’s Basilica didn’t build itself. “When the coin in the coffer rings, a soul from purgatory springs.”
Truth is, there are always weeds amongst the wheat in every denomination. When it comes to Mary, she is blessed amongst women, and certainly a great example of God’s grace. I’m sure it would be great to meet her in the world to come. Anything beyond that goes beyond what is written, and really borders on idolatry.

The global Methodist churches did the right thing. They knew they were never going to get as good a chance as they had now to make sure their buildings would continue to be used for faithful Christian ministry. The way the UMC was structured a heretical bishop could just force heretical pastors on the conservative congregations and there was nothing they could do about it.

Common misconception about Jefferson. While he definitely held some unorthodox views about the Bible and God, he definitely was NOT a deist. The only actual prominent deist figures in American independence were Thomas Paine and Ethan Allen. Many of the famous founders did range from orthodox to unorthodox to flat out heretical, but overwhelmingly most were not actual deists.

But identifying that there is indeed both a bodily and divine nature, distinct but in union, wouldn't be Nestorian - none of us here (Prots, Catholics, Orthodox) are Monophysitists who think we can only ever speak of one single (divine) nature of Christ, we readily accept therer are two natures, and speaking of such is not necessarily 'separating' them.

RZ, I love your videos and absolutely support the Reconquista. However, I think you tend to emphasize there’s a theological spectrum with issues YOU are nuanced on (evolution vs. YEC) but then lump all theological liberals in with literal heretics when it’s an issue you’re hardline conservative on (LGBT issues).
Most scholars see many Old Testament texts as fundamentally different and less historical than the Gospels. A “theological liberal” who doesn’t read OT verses on sexuality as applicable to modern times but also believes in the literal Resurrection, the virgin birth, real presence in communion, etc. is perfectly logically consistent. Frankly reading all of Scripture the same is just not a litmus test for Christianity. The New Testament is HISTORY in a way that Genesis just is not, for example.
You can be a pro-LGBT or pro-evolution Christian without being a heretic, and it’s ridiculous to lump those folks in with truly heretical progressive pastors.

Thanks for the well-thought-out comment. I have acknowledged that not all LGBT-affirming Christians are heretics, especially in my big video "5 stages of progressivism"
For simplicity sake, I do tend to speak of theological liberalism as one thing with heretics being the extreme end of it and non-heretical LGBT-affirmers being a more moderate end

    • @ihiohoh2708
      @ihiohoh2708 Před 6 měsíci

In order to be pro LGBT affirming you either need to deny the inerrancy of the Bible or do mental gymnastics to deny it is a sin. While I'd say some of those that follow these doctrines can be genuinely saved, me formerly being one of them as a baby Christian, I would be hesitant to not call it heresy since it outright removes verses from the Bible. It's one thing to have a different interpretation of Scripture, but to outright deny Scripture is very dangerous. Also, the New Testament makes it clear it is wrong.

@@ihiohoh2708 More liberal Pastors don’t just DENY Scripture here, they have (admittedly liberal and nuanced) reasoning behind what Scripture is actually telling us - e.g., based on the context, Paul being condemning Pederasty rather than consensual homosexuality. Either way, I don’t see it as different (as far as being “heretical”) than taking such a huge step as interpreting Genesis metaphorically - as MANY Christians do. I think heretical accusations must be restricted to much more essential doctrines like the Trinity and the literal Resurrection.

    • @ihiohoh2708

@@fighterofthenightman1057 It does seem like a gospel issue to me in the sense that I think in order to believe it, you must still hold on to the idea that people have good in them since it is in a sense a rejection of law/sin. Which obviously no one is good and all have sinned. That is why we need Jesus. However, since someone can believe such a thing and still be saved, perhaps you're right that it's not strictly heretical. I'd say it's awfully close though. Especially to those that teach it more than those that follow it.
