Hm, explains the one time chance to purchase the stuff... behind the door.
That was a working theory based on earlier drafts of the story that got leaked. Understandable considering the model.
Whilst his Brother ascended the ranks of the Magic School to later become The Tuba Kings Court Wizard, The Tuba Merchant, somehow became an entirely different animal, disregarding the war in the name of profit. The Tuba Merchant is somewhat similar to a housecat, In spite of his completely greedy and selfish demeanor, he is well loved by his townsfolk, with his signature "HANDS OFF DA MERCHENDICE" being parroted by the children to the village, While his stock starts small at the beginning of the game. He can be given Mouthpieces and Reeds to expand his stock, strangely enough, he seems to care little for his brother, as when given The Tuba Wizards mouth piece, he simply says "HA, NOW I CAN SELL *MAGIC*"
"HANDS OF DA MERCHENDICE" Dude you're killing me. xD
Hahaha
The misspelling of “off” makes it seem like he’s saying “I am the hands of the merchandise!”

Yet another relative of the other tuba men, the tuba merchant is one of only two members of his family who bears some sort of neutral alignment, next to the tuba wizard. Unlike the wizard, though, he is true neutral while the wizard is chaotic neutral. This means that, unlike even the wizard, who simply doesn’t care what the hero does so long as an end is achieved, he seems to show no care for whether an ending is achieved or not. This appears to be a facade in the case of his family, though, as he will give you a permanent discount should you spare and even recruit the other tuba men OR he will express his displeasure with the hero if you kill all of them, stating cryptically, “Knight and I especially had a lot of fun together. He seemed to understand and care the most. You know, you would’ve liked him...”
If you kill any but at least one of tuba men, his dialogue shows neither change.

It would be a bit hard for people to were string instruments but I love the idea.
Well if string is to hard remember there’s also the percussion kingdom and the woodwind army
Or alternatively someone could just do drawings/art for the string kingdom
I think in the game the four kingdoms should be brass, strings, woodwinds, and percussion. The main two would be strings and brass with percussion and woodwinds having been very damaged from the brass legion. Also it would if there were frequent references to a kingdom that had been completely and utterly annihilated by the brass kingdom, you could see there ruins around and stuff I’m thinking the choir dynasty?
There's also the synth city farther away in a extra pack, a high tier area with powerful enemies, cool NPCs, an entire storyline, and a new party member who deals with heavy drops for high damage
yeah bro
If you pick string, brass, or woodwind, you're very involved with the war
String: The attacking kingdom. The Tuba War started with the String King striking down a Tuba Merchant. You're forced to join the army and fight numerous waves of brass users.
Brass: The defending kingdom. You're immediately forced to join the army and fight numerous waves of string users.
Woodwind: Quite neutral, but has killed many people on all sides, percussion included. You're forced to either go into hiding, becoming a bandit, killing all in your way, or leading the Woodwind Revolution. (They lead protests as to why they committed their crimes.)
@@netherlord5342 Fun Fact: If you go to the Synth City DLC, You can find Tuba Merchant on the main street, it is in the left of it alongside several small shops. If you enter it, the music that plays will be twice as fast to fit in the city (put the song on 2.0x)
Although, after the main quest of defeating the corrupted Tuba King, Tuba Slaver escapes and infiltrates Synth City. He takes controls of all technology and the police robots starts attacking everyone, making the city start falling apart. You need to pass through the streets, with several AI controlled trucks hunting you down.
You then finally need to find Tuba Slaver's headquartes, a huge building 800 meters tall that served as the economic bank, but now taken over. You need to pass through several floors, until finally reaching Tuba Slaver. He states that he will take over the lands since Tuba King is finally gone, and you then need to fight him again, but this time he controls the scenarion to his advantage, using lasers, fire alarms to take out any fire magic you place in your weapons and calling robots. After defeating him, you take out his control out of the code and the city gets back again, where you get rewarded with a statue of yourself in the building's first floor, a huge brass statue fo yourself to everyone see!

I love how this guy randomly appears.
You could be wandering through the woodwind forest, find a random tent set up in the middle of nowhere and then boom, he's just there with his shop all set up.
Or like when you're struggling against the steep slopes of the percussion peaks, enter a cave to regain some stamina, and he's just standing there next to a bonfire as his wares are set up on the ground next to him.
He just gives a sense of relief anytime he shows up.

Well I have news for you.” The merchant says as he begins to glow and ominous purple glow, “ You can’t” He them suddenly teleports you to an empty abyss now in the form of a giant Tuba Demon “NOW LETS TEACH YOU SOME MANNERS HMM!”
Long ago, there was an Orchestra consisting of the proud Brass, the undead and aerial Woodwinds, as well as the powerful Percussion. The Brass led the kingdom, the Woodwinds watched from the sky, and the Percussion guarded the kingdoms from mountains and caves. One day, in fear of being overtaken, the Trumpet and Tuba kings decided to banish the Percussion and Woodwind kingdoms. This, is what started the Orchestral War.
Let's say the world runs on a clock until things go to hell. In the first few in-game days, Tuba Merchant will be selling as usual, but as time goes on he gets more and more worried as the Orchestral War inches towards his hometown. In the final hours, the Woodwind and Percussion Crusaders attack the Tuba kingdom, a revolt against being banished from Orchestral grounds. At this moment Tuba Merchant is a paranoid wreck, locking all of the entrances to his shop. You can still peek through the shops window, and you'll see him cowering in the very corner of his desk. At this point in time the Brass Army has already lost, leaving the Tuba and Trumpet kingdoms defenseless. Its only hope? You, if you're quick enough.
I forgot I was listening to this while playing Stellaris until it ende it, the best background music is the one that doesn´t overwealm you, bores you and takes away the silence.
"I have loads if you got them notes"
"Whatever you choose, you will not lose"
Fun fact: in the first game he was the secret boss, Wandering fighter. Even the strongest decay with time
My favourite character, the merchant! I love his personality and humour, he is just a great character! He doesn't care about the war at all, and is willing to trade with other kingdoms. 9/10 Sometimes his deals aren't that good, but he is still a great character!
"Polishing oil, Strings, Bridges? You want it? It's yours my friend, as long as you have enough notes!"
"The hated little brother of the tuba wizard, he betrayed his country to help heroes fighting king tuba II, for a price anyways" - tuba merchant lore, this guy was useful as all hell, I suggest searching the starting area for the merchant key so you can actually rescue this guy, otherwise you'll have a rough time, hope in the sequel he's easier to find and free (if he needs freeing at all), if there ends up being a sequel anyways
He's got some really amazing items in his shop. I spent all my gems on the tuba upgrade +5 and I dont regret it
The Big Band enters the small wagon, immediately sent backwards by both the smell and latent magic in the air. Entering again reveals a lone tuba merchant who's only reply is smugly:
"Need anything?"
"Why would a Tuba offer business to the enemy of the Tuba King? Oh, little Maestro. Clefs long predate the Kingdom, you know, and they'll keep their value long after. You'll see."
“Well well well, you survived the brothers after all, come on in and welcome to heaven my friend”
His dialogue after you defeat his brother the wizard is honestly heartbreaking. Despite the fact he claims it to be a story he heard, it is clearly based on his own childhood with tuba wizard. Needless to say, I highly suggest you sell him the shattered director’s wand after defeating the mad conductor. It seems like a terrible idea at first, but the payback in chapter 7 is immeasurable.
The Tuba Merchant stands before you, offering strange and valuable items to start your journey.
"Welcome to my Band wagon, please, look around!" he says, as his wagon of wares is chuck full of many weapons, potions, and armor from different kingdoms.

Dialogue: Tuba Merchant: "Welcome all! Is your tubarmor rusting away? Is your Tuba Sword just not good enough? Do you crave a potion? Then come to the Tuba Merchant! I've got all sorts of goods! If you've got the money..."
Buy an item: Tuba Merchant: "Interested, eh? I can guarantee you that it'll serve you well! In fact, ALL my wares will server you well!"
Pay for item: "Thanks! Pleasure doing business with you, and you can find me at Brass City too!"
Ask about town: "Trombone Town? Well it's nothing special, located to the east of Brass City, yessiree. Me and my family used to live here, but my brother went away to be a mage or something... I think he works for the Tuba King ll now... but you didn't want to hear my life story, did ya? Why don't you buy some goods."
Ask about Brass City: "So ya need information eh? Well if ya want to get ta Brass City, you'll need a certified Tuba Guard Hat or you'll be stopped by Tuba Officers. Luckily my shop is the only one that sells Tuba Guard Hats to non-tubalonians! Aren't you lucky?"
Ask about brother: "My brother? Well he goes by the name of the Tuba Wizard, maybe you've heard of him? I heard he gained some coin working for the Tuba King ll."
I’ve seen lots of brass themes it’d be cool to see some string warriors too

"Hello there traveller, would you like to purchase my fine wares?"
Looking much like the Tuba Wizard, he has a calmer demeanor. He does not care if you're a villain, he will sell you his wares if that is the last thing he does in his existence.
He is capable of fighting, however.
"I don't care if you're from the Guitar Emirate, the Piano Kingdom, the Tube Empire, or the String Federation. Hell, you can come from the god damn Violin Republic as far as I'm concerned. Let me tell you how things work around here: I have the equipament. Depending on how much you got, you can have the equipament. No catches, no borders".
- Tuba Merchant
I'm so fokin confused
Is this a game???
I'm very interested
join the Orchestra ;)
"Welcome, maestro. I've heard of your exploits. Hey, hey, put down the bow, I'm not here to fight you. I am but a simple merchant, here to sell items in exchange for currency. Perhaps some of my wares will interest you?"
“Ok, I have some tuners for you- is that a *Woodwind* instrument?!”
*Why has nobody made this a game yet?*
Idk
tuba merchant doesn't care from where the money flows, only that it does...
"Ay must keep a store runnin' even amidst this chaos, come check my wares traveler"
"I'd like a pair of brass knuckles, a B-4 Brassault Rifle, and 390 rounds of brass-cased 5.56x45mm."
