5:30 When I was 15, I worked as a storeman and packer at the bottom of Albert Street and would catch the train from Strathpine to Central. I'd catch an early train so I could sit in Anzac square and talk to the pigeons, and the homeless bloke that made the park his spot. I'd also end up missing trains in the arvo so I could sit in the tunnel under the memorial and listen to the busker/s playing their music. Great times.
For a long time, across the road from the Square, was a Billy Hyde's drum shop, and above the shop were flats with little balconies. I often wondered how I could go about renting one of the flats, because I'd imagine myself sitting on the balcony, having a drink, listening to some old blues music, and watching the world go by from my little balcony.

Great work Cam. Use to be on the council back in the 90s and love the old girl.

I walked past the old Parliment House every weekday from 1987 to 1989 as I was studying at QUT Gardens Point then.

I think Brisbane has always suffered from the timing of its Great Fire. The late 1860s was just after the goldrushes and there was a lot of competition for building jobs and construction materials, making it expensive to rebuild Brisbane, and most of what went up after the fire was fairly ramshackle.

Having spent a lot of my pre, and teen years in Brisvegas, and being a Brissie-born boy, I was absolutely gutted when I heard that the Dean Bros had demolished not only the Bellevue, but that most awesome of ballrooms and concert venues, Cloudland. It was an absolute travesty and still gets me angry when I drive through Bowen Hills or see the old grand archway in photos. Oh, I've subbed...because you know, Rob etc.

Check out St Francis Theological College.

Really enjoyed the video. Fascinating topic covering the beautiful and ugly buildings of Brisbane. My vote for most butt-ugly building must go to the Telstra building located at Woolloongabba. Now I know it is not in the CBD, but it makes the Parliamentary Annex look stylish, which would normally be impossible.

I'm not sure, but I think that the Bellevue that the Dean Brothers nocked down wasn't the original Bellevue. I once saw a City Council plan that showed a slightly smaller building on that corner, dated 1913. I also had some great memories of Cloudland, for some really great concerts. Gone but not forgotten.

Been to Brisbane a few times and l just wondered how it could have been so badly planned. There are some ugly buildings as pointed out here but the overall standard is abysmal and the way they overshadow, older, more graceful buildings is terrible. The city is by a very beautiful river but it cannot be accessed because there is an effing great highway which cuts it off from the city. Brisbane has imported the US model of development so you a situation of a wealthy but ugly city

Elton John. With his feathered coat and his huge sunglasses. He stayed in the penthouse that night.

Hey ! For an European eye they ruined the appeal of the CBD ,drowning it under a mass of concret and destroying buildings of historic values.......the subtropical charm is gone for ever .

Thanks for watching. I think there is a certain charm to them. Sure, some people may argue about the colonial aspect of these old buildings but it would nice to see them repurposed for future generations of Queenslanders.

the boxy 80's buildings are ugly, the new modern glass ones quite modern, the trouble with the old heritage is they are only a few stories high.

444 Queen Street must rank as one of the ugliest brutalist style buildings in Brisbane, how could they build that opposite the Customs House.
