Without doubt this is one of the best Tamil movies I've watched. This movie is far better than the crapy rajini's fake movies. Don't know why this is not in the top 5 list. Shalini is a fantastic actress. Feel very sad she quit movies because of pressure from her husband Ajit. This is the typical insecure husband attitude we see in Indian artists. They ban their wives from acting. In this regard I like Suriya and Abhishek Bachan who let their wives Jo and Aishwarya act after marriage. In the backdrop, I think Ajit is a insecure fellow who can't see his wife act. Typical insecure, gutless husband attitude. I've stopped watching Ajit's movies - like rajini, ajit is a coward in real life but acts like a hero in films. I'd rather watch Surya and Abhishek Bachan who are the true heroes in life. Look at Ajit, he wants to act but made a big drama when his wife was concluding the film Piriyadha varam vendum. Shalini, you could've married a guy who would've appreciated and supported you instead of this insecure Ajit. Seriously, you have missed the happiness of a husband who supports his wife and is happy with his wife's success. This is a feeling every woman should experience. You missed it Shalini. Well, its all too late.
Well said! . I still remember, the couple got married when I was in college. I read an interview of ajith where he was saying ‘ I like shalini as an artist, but I don’t like her acting after marriage. ‘ And after marriage shalini was heard saying I can’t work in movies because iam very much concerned about my husband and daughter. Well if ajith was supportive , then she wouldn’t mouth such a statement.
Maybe Ajit knows about the industry well, but he should let Shalini act in good directors movies like Mani ratnam who has a good name in the industry with regards to how he treats female artists unlike the rowdy producers or people like Shankar or Telugu industry

Surya’s dad is exactly the same. He didn’t want him to marry Jo, only allowed to marry by promising she won’t act in movies especially romance. That’s why her roles are not romantic ones.
