I just don't understand why the franchise hates Joyce so much😂 She loses her husband to a car crash, raises a problematic traumatised child as a result, gets in even more family arguments when David comes around, then she either loses Chloe or dies in a diner apart from her family. Honestly the whole problem with season 2 is that the devs didn’t recognize which elements of season 1 made Life Is Strange “Life Is Strange.” The Twin Peaks element of season 1 could’ve been unique to Max and Chloe’s story, for example, and even the specific time powers. But nostalgia and the loss of childhood, the unreliability of adults with authority over you, uncovering interconnected secrets, childhood friendships challenged by the reality of growing up, all with a twist of the supernatural: these are core elements that could’ve been stretched across multiple seasons.
If they wanted to do the same themes as what we got, it could’ve followed a police shooting in their town involving a friend and the kids trying to solve it. Sean should’ve had a paranormal ability that was a core gameplay mechanic, like seeing ghosts or hearing secrets on radios, or psychometry. And Daniel should’ve been an actual character instead of a plot device. And Sean! Ugh he was so bland and angsty, compared to Max who had far more self-awareness and honesty, you could find her likable even with all her flaws.

I think the biggest problem is that Dontnod decided to make the episode release dates so far apart from each other. It's easy to lose interest when by the time a new episode comes out, your mind is probably pre-occupied with another game. There's no mystery to solve here, and the cast of characters change every episode. It hard to keep engaged with the story when it jumps all over the place, and the long wait times certainly don't help.

Dani V. This game would’ve made more sense if Sean had a power of his own or if Sean had Daniels power. Atleast then our choices would be more diverse. What doesn’t make sense is how In LIS 1 Max’s power has no drain on her and doesn’t hurt her while Daniels power drains him physically if he uses it too much. In the beginning of the game Daniel threw a car and was knocked out for 24 hours and had memory loss but Max’s power never came with any backlash. This makes no sense to me they both have powers that they use ALOT but Daniel is the one who gets backlash from it.

    • @animoni7
      @animoni7 Před 4 lety +6

Mad King Well, I don’t exactly agree but I see what you’re getting at. I think if Sean has Daniels powers the game wouldnt have achieved the brotherhood aspect. The whole point is that cliche troupe of ‘teen / older person raises child’ like a parental figure. The part it fails is the storyline itself, it was contrived, forced and irrelevant from the start. Sean and daniel could’ve achieved this same journey without even leaving their town tbch, it would’ve helped develop both characters but instead they had them travel around with a bogus ass plot line that went nowhere and our characters remain flat / unbelievable / non realistic. As for the first LiS Max does have repurcussions, remember her nose bleeds after she used it too much? The major one was where Kate committed suicide, once that happens Max loses her ability to reverse time so it’s imperative you either save her or don’t. You can’t undo that decision. Daniel is actually flipped, it’s Max whose powers have repercussions and actually make sense / stay relevant in the game but Daniel is established to have issues with his powers once and then never again does he have back lash. That’s another thing the game failed at, it doesn’t offer a sturdy power system for Daniel. We know he can lift trees and cars but sometimes he’s only able to barely throw a gun? Max had concrete rules to her power. They only became broken when the whole ‘looking at a picture can take you back to this place’ thing happened.

If I decided 2 episodes in that the message was too much, i could just delete it and forget about it. It's a form of art, and with art comes a message, and despite our opinions on it, that was the message the artists decided to portray, even if it was heavily shoved down your throat. I chose to play it regardless and fell in love with Sean and Daniel's story/adventure. I loved the come and go characters aspect and the fact that your ending was determined on how you taught Daniel. Art is a beautiful thing, but sometimes the message the artist is sending isn't your style, too heavy portrayed, or fit your beliefs that's just how it is, and that's why I love art so much!

I don’t know why “parting ways” is considered the best ending. Sean’s whole goal was to live with his brother, which he doesn’t get to do. (It also doesn’t help that I didn’t like either of the love interests so Sean would be living there alone). Daniel would also be separated, which he didn’t want, and wouldn’t be living a normal life since he is living under house arrest.
Sean dying is the worst ending, if you think differently, you’re wrong.
“Blood brothers” is probably the best ending, by technicality. It’s exactly what both of them wanted, to live together in puerto lobos. It isn’t my favorite ending because it means both Sean and Daniel have low morality to get this ending, which I don’t like.
“Redemption” is my favorite ending, even though I don’t really like it that much either. Daniel and Sean are semi separated like in “parting ways” except Daniel isn’t on house arrest so he can live a normal life. It takes a while but Sean and Daniel are back together and can live together and be happy in the end. Plus, I like lyla as a love interest more than Cassidy or Finn and her being there at the release made me like the ending a bit more. Sean’s ultimate goal through the game was to protect Daniel and give him the best life he can. This is the ending that does that the best.

Dontnod, being a french studio, really did not know what they were doing with the setup for this game.
They didn't even need the cop to have a reason to shoot the father. Could have just as easily had the bully kid call the cops over nothing, a thing that actually happens, without the stupid fake blood stain, and had the father shot over a simple argument because cops are notoriously bad at de-escalation, or maybe the cop was just a racist asshole like everyone else in the game.
Then, don't have the street explode for no reason, have Daniel push the cop over and maybe the gun flies forward near Sean. Cop scrambles for the gun and Sean, afraid the Cop is going to shoot them too, tries to grab the gun and they struggle for the gun and he accidentally shoots the cop, giving a legitimate reason for why Sean would NEED to run away to Mexico.
    There, I fixed it.

Regarding why Sean ran away at the beginning of the game, you have to look at his actions from the point of view of a scared and traumatized 16 year old with limited understanding of how the world works, and with distrust in authority arising from his father being recently murdered for no reason, as well as years of probable systematic discrimination that he and other people like him experienced in his lifetime.
Furthermore, his main fear was being separated from his brother in case of his arrest. Remember that at the beginning of the game he had no idea where his mother was and it is later revealed that he hadn't seen his grandparents since Karen left. Plus, his dad had no immediate relatives there either (it is mentioned that his relatives are still in Puerto Lobos) so he most likely feared that Daniel would be placed in foster care with strangers.
Also, unrelated to this, if your Daniel didn't save Chris, that is because you discouraged him from using his powers. If you encourage him throughout the game, then he will save him.

This story would have potential if it wasn't clearly written by a bunch of virtue signaling White French people pretending that they understand American race relations.
Also, it doesn't help that the main character constantly behaves like an idiot and puts his brother in danger when he doesn't have to. For instance, he could have just left Daniel with their grandparents when the police caught up with them at the grandparents' house. Daniel wouldn't have been prosecuted (since he's only 9 years old and was never a suspect). And he would have been safe and well cared for with them. But instead, Sean drags his little brother into the snowy forest and makes him work on an illegal weed farm and live with a bunch of gross, unwashed hippies and dangerous, gun-toting drug dealers.
And Sean's ultimate plan in all this is to move himself and his brother to Mexico (the country their father fled from because it sucks) even though they have NO IDEA if their dad still has family there, if the family will even want them, if their dad's property is still vacant, how they'll get by there with regards to money/school/etc.

I'm having a hard time trying to connect to characters who barely get any screentime because they basically disappear off the map at the end of an episode. Like, why couldn't we spend almost the entire game with Lyla and Brody, or perhaps with the drifters? That would've been interesting.
Also, the police trying to pin Officer Matthew's murder on Sean absolutely makes no sense whatsoever. The police car was overturned, the officer died of blunt force trauma from being pushed against some hard object, and they literally have dashcam footage showing them a massive gust of wind overturning the cop car. I'm really fucking curious how prosecution is gonna explain how a 16 year old managed to do that.

That house in Mexico hasn't been their fathers for at least 17 years, why would they have a claim to it? I'm surprise that house in Mexico wasn't torn down or heavily damaged actually.
Most of Canada is uninhabited unlike Mexico where majority of it (outside of the deep desert) is. Make it to the top portion of Canada and they'd be good.
Either way they'd have a hard time though but what's better, fighting gangs in Mexico (something they show in the Mexico endings) or living in the wilderness of Canada? Mind you, in both cases they'd still be tracked by either countries government and still the U.S. police.

Also, where are they going to get food, clean water, shelter and supplies? This becomes an even bigger problem if they go farther north as you suggest. If they do that, I doubt they would survive the winter.
Also, just because they do not live there, does not mean that the house does not still belong to their father. To be fair though, I don't know how they knew where the house was or how they even got there once they were in Mexico.
Overall, I do feel that life in Mexico would be easier than living in the wilderness in Canada. Even just in the game, they have a significantly more difficult time living in the wilderness than they do evading police and other criminals.

When their dad died Sean woke up finding everyone unconscious except him and his dad shot dead on the floor so I think he assumed the cops would blame him too so I see why he panicked and ran away, it was either fight or flight for him
For the racism, None of the episodes was as extreme as the “white people are bad” narrative that people sound it to be :
Episode 1 : guy at the gas station and Brody the nice guy
    Episode 2 & 3 : None
Episode 4 : the Chad guy and his friend being actually reasonable and the truck guy being nice
Episode 5 : the two vigilantes VS the white cop actually asking her to shut up and being nice with Sean and agent Flores wanting to help.
I don’t think they exaggerated the racism, they were all situations that I have actually seen, either them pushing Sean or saying to go back to his country, etc.
    I’ve seen them all really
I think your choices actually affected the endings depending on how you chose to bring up Daniel, him either accepting surrendering or refusing , etc.
For their relationship I think if you have siblings you would connect more with them, how them being 7 years apart and Daniel not liking anything that his brother says and whines a lot as he’s also nine years old and Sean wanting to protect him.
