Scary Moments That Were False Alarms

- These scary moments ended up being false alarms. In 2018, an alert flashed on millions of cell phones across the East Coast, warning residents of a tsunami. In 2021, there was chaos in a New York airport when an antique camera was mistaken for a bomb. In 2016, hundreds of passengers ran for their lives at Los Angeles International Airport after false reports of shots fired. Inside Edition Digital’s Andrea Swindall has more.
It’s understandable how panic resulted in the nine injuries at the mall. As many say, it’s that panic that’ll kill you. Remaining calm will help you survive and think logically on escape
So what would you say is the right approach instead of running for your life?
@@notchy6969panicking ain’t gonna save your life
@@notchy6969run with logic instead of instinct?
@@tomatosoupwoo i hope youre joking
@@nnnnick no, I’m not, I’m saying run but be aware of what’s happening around you. For all these people know they could be running straight to the shots
Our country is suffering from high anxiety and some even ptsd...because of the past things that have occurred.
such as?
past things? you mean the mass shooting that occur daily?
There's lack of educational guide for most of these incidents tbh.
@@yohanesmy8354and what’s sad about that is that my school has a wall that’s just windows, and a kid punched one of them to reveal that it wasn’t bulletproof, and we don’t have shooter drills. There was a stranger near my window and istg I’m glad nothing happened. I’m not sure if this is true but I think a real or fake shooter lockdown happened at the high school right next to me, and we didn’t even get informed or go into a lockdown either. What if something was to happen? Our security doesn’t even do anything. My school doesn’t deal with bullying or anything serious and is very underprepared. At least I might go to a different school for my 8th grade year when school starts in august.
2 major root causes. Lack of education on specific matters and lack of gun regulation.
The person who thought the camera was a bomb need to be held accountable.
How would you go after the person ? For lack of intelligence ? 🤭
@@mysticmarble94 Yes and probably also blind.
@@godofnothing520 So in that case, you still wanna hold a person accountable for blindness ? 🤭
Who would mistake a antique camera for a bomb 🤦 I was born in 90's even I can tell what a old school camera looks like does nobody have brain cells anymore
@@mysticmarble94 Yes, cause if the person is blind how can they know it's a bomb.
You know you're extremely young when you've never seen a vintage camera like that before
I was thinking that tooo😭
thats what im saying. What type of bomb looks like that?
Ikr lol I'm young but I still know it's a camra 😂
You know there's a mass shooting problem when the sound of balloons causes people to panic.
Yes
We had a false alarm in my middle school once, we dont do practice school shooting alarms so i thought it was real. I remember walking into the main building and hearing a voice through the speakers saying something like "keep away from windows" or "barricade all doors and do not panic", a bunch of kids got injured.
A similar one happened in my middle school (before covid) and it turns out that there's some kind of bird (I think a turkey but I might be wrong) made it inside of the school. I thought I was gonna die tho but good thing I am safe and so did others.
@@nataliejones8308 how did a turkey cause a Alarm
Honestly, all I know is that someone mistaken a turkey as a intruder so yeah

can you really blame anybody for being so on edge? this country sees mass shootings practically every day at this point. it’s traumatizing to see your fellow human beings die knowing you could be next. something needs to change
Theres not much that we can do, if we take away guns from the public it’ll only get worse because there will still be illegal means to getting a gun but then we won’t be able to defend ourselves.
It's just stupidity, it's not being on edge.
I wanna go back in the 90s where everyone wasn't so paranoid in public and behind phones/social media.
Jacoryarnett.....I feel you sorry 😢
wasn't * not weren't
We didn't have mass shootings every week in the 90s...
You and me both! Social media has ruined this world!
Pre 9/11 era
We've gotten to the age where kids don't even recognize a traditional camera anymore. cause it doesn't have a touch screen.
It's scary that this is so true.
It didn't mention the age of the person misidentifying the object.
Some said a 15 year old
It's literally the way civilizations progress through time and move on. The same non-argument can be made for tons of utilities that people have no idea about from like the 20s, 40s, 60s. Acting all hyperbolic like it's a youngster specific problem is disingenuous IMO.
@@mysticmarble94the thing is, most of those utilities aren't something you'd see in public. A camera is something that you definitely could! It wouldn't be unusual to bring a camera on a plane anyway. I've done it plenty of times! Just with a bit more modern camera.
People just need to use a little more critical thinking in the moment. Like, why would a bomb be made out of leather and glass, and why would anyone let it on a plane? That camera is pretty big, so it obviously made it's way through security. You can't let fear overcome your life.
I mean when you live in a country that has mass shootings every Tuesday it's not that unexpected to have mass panic a common thing. >.>
I remember when Louisville ky had that mass shooting… I was just in school on a regular day, and every day I think “what if it happened at my school?” Yeah one wall that’s entirely windows that’s not even bulletproof bc a kid punched through it, and horrible security and my school is super underprepared.
My workplace training advises all employees to treat suspected gunfire as real, on a just precaution basis. If its fake its fake, but if it was real and treated as fake, then it's a tragedy.
We had 4 false bomb threats in 4 weeks at our high school, it was annoying and terrifying!
Similar thing here at my high school. We had numerous false bomb threats & shooting threats at my school during the last month after someone caused a mass panic
It really was annoying to go through
Living in USA, I can see how a balloon pop can be sound like a gun firing.
I was at the mall back in 2016/17, and my sister and I heard glass being smashed and then a bunch of idiots started running thinking it was a shooting. We kept yelling at people that it was just glass, but no one listened, so we casually walked out. We got to the car and laughed our ass off at all the commotion and we later found out some people were breaking the displays at a jewelry store
“A bunch of idiots” yeah because everyone can’t be as smart as you 🙄 Just because you knew what was going on didn’t make everyone else idiots, they just simply didn’t know and even though you may have tried to tell them otherwise, they were in fight or flight mode, there’s no way they were going to hear you anyways. Quit acting like you wouldn’t do the very same thing if the tables would have been turned smh lol y’all need to be humbled 👍
I'm glad I've never been in a situation like this, and hope I never will be. It's sad that all those occurences resulted in such a waste of emotions and energy for what was all along a misunderstanding.
The America we live in now..can we really blame anyone for believing something is actually happening & freaking out because of it? These things actually happen out of nowhere & this is the new America, & never know when tragedy will happen.. there’s not a place in America that is safe!
We had a false alarm at my old mall job. Upstairs in the food court people thought there was an argument and shooting. I worked downstairs. It was crazy watching what looked like hundreds of people come sprinting and falling down the escalators.
I remember I was outside when the missile alarm happened. One of the scariest days of my life, me and my family were practically running home as well as everyone else around us. We called my dad since he works in the navy and should know something about it but he didn’t know about which was strange because they should’ve known about it first, luckily this kind lady had told us that it was most likely fake. Turned out to be fake, someone had accidentally pressed the missile alarm. I’m so thankful that it wasn’t real, or I wouldn’t have been alive right now.
How does one mistake a camera for a bomb.I get you don’t see that camera very often, but still!
Same thing happened to me in Cancun airport
Vintage camera: *exists*
Passengers: So anyways I started panicking
At this point I wonder why Americans don't just collectively fall to the ground when they hear fireworks xD
The classical tale of the Little boy who cried Wolf 🐺
pov: u live in america
Enough why people making jokes about America just because President Biden is a horrible president doesn't mean you can just make jokes about it. Like yea, Biden is a joke but still don't
The fact…the first thing we think is gun shots… this is our world now.
I was at Chicago O’Hara Airport in mid June of 2023 and the fire alarm went off. We all looked at each other because there was no fire signs. An official came through saying everything was fine and the alarm lasted 30 seconds
The ICBM alert warning in Hawaii, that one probably was the scariest.
I was looking for this comment! Surprised that wasn’t on here, immediately thought of the story of Jim Carrey sitting on the beach waiting for it to hit when I saw the title
Imagine everyone running away from a mall because a little kid was playing with a toy gun or a toy bomb.
Or Government psychology drill.
Imagine dismissing an actual shooting as just a child playing with a pop-gun, then getting injured because of it. Sure, you might say there's no way one could confuse the sound of a pop-gun for live gunfire, but sound can echo strangely in some environments. It's better to treat it as if it was real.
I remember someone bike's tire pop on a park, everyone starks running and panicking , the paranoia to extreme
someone really hired saul goodman for the homeland security
Make stupid mistakes, you get stupid prizes. Accuweather needs to suffer those consequences.
Yes. AccuWeather isn’t even accurate. Google is much more accurate and that’s sad
Damn, everything get us shook 😭
Sad we got to do this.
Now that is sad
At least people knew what to do when REAL gunshots fired
So bad to tell lies that scary 😢
Remember when people were making fun of us locals living in Hawaii well look now, imagine a bunch of people making fun of all the events elsewhere
Imagine a bunch of yahoos with guns trying to play hero and go in search for the active shooter during this maddness and end up shooting each other as the police arrive to the scene.
Ah yes as opposed to the police…the epitome of control and correct conduct.
Realistically I would be that guy 😂. Maybe joe Biden is on to something with gun control.
Who tests their fire alarm using balloons? Simply make an announcement saying 'This is a test of the fire alarm system' and press the test button on the control panel.
I wonder why we’re all so scared and paranoid about active shooters cropping up
🙃
Bc they be appearing everywhere
1:29 How do you look at that and get even the slightest idea that it's a bomb?
The guy at 0:40 looks like Saul Goodman
Very scary for people who almost died
Can we please be more careful with warnings? They may be hoaxes after all. 😭
people need to understand what a bomb looks like. Once I started trying to fix my Arduino ( a small device that can connect to sensors and more via little wires) It was linked with loads of modules, and I was on a plane since it had broken and I needed it after landing. A couple next to me started looking at it and talking amongst themselves so I had to tell them. Otherwise it would be a similar situation to this but likely even worse.
They’re trying to pull off the biggest prank ever.
my highschool had 2 false alarms for a lockdown in one year.. I think how it happened was a teacher pressed a red button too many times and that activated it.
In the early 90's, loud popping sounds would make people think of balloons or fireworks. Now we think of shootings or bombings. It is so messed up that our country has so many legal weapons used in mass shootings that any loud noise causes panic. Something needs to change!
This vid reminds me of fire alarms being pulled at my school by a prankster and the whole school had to evacuate 😒
I got that Accu warning on my phone. I ignored it. If one actually happened on the eastern US, it would be a cute stream by the time it reached here. lol
We had a false alarm at March for Our Lives. We had a moment of silence and all of a sudden people were running in my direction. I thought Delegate Krizek & I were gonna get trampled. I don’t remember the name of the woman at the podium but I can’t thank her enough for calming the situation.
How do you mistake a camera for a bomb
RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!
Omg please!! "I thought the plane was gonna blow up!" It's a freaking camera....relax! People and there over exaggerations!! 🤦
Oh my God, that’s so good of scary. I was everyone’s good does every good?😮😢
You can never be too cautious but how do you mistake a camera for a bomb bruh. They really thought that a ‘terror!st’ would just casually take dwon the bomb and fiddle with it before doing anything smh
One time my husband went for a job interview. He entered through a building, did the interview, then tried leaving from the same building. When he went through the door he was greeted by a swat team pointing guns at him and yelling for him to get down and put his hands up. Terrified, of course, he complied. Turns out it was a drill and the cops thought he was the "actor" or whatever. They apologized 😂
Rip
Gasp 😱 yikes 😬 I've been given a few warning myself on my cell phone it was pretty scary I think I understand the situation still pretty scary though.
This was not a drill one time but in my school like I was only like 10 years old when this happened but it was a lockdown and I didn't know what to do and it wasn't a false alarm it was like a guy that was trying to like had a gun or something and I was just hiding in the bathroom until something went over this week and like I shut the bathroom door from where it opens and I locked it and it was obviously sketchy to do that so I turned off the lights and hit in the biggest door on all the doors and like I thought I could call through event but I couldn't and I was absolutely terrified and then they say it's all clear and the police were here and my classmates were looking for me it was terrifying like I said I was only friends so
Scary business for scared people. Life in USA today.
I love your videos
Dang
One little balloon pops and everyone loses their minds!!!!!
The biggest false alarm was at the end when we discovered that it's a person voice not an AI one
I remember when their was a false alarm for a tornado I was so scared
I remember it was summer school and we had to take shelter bc of a real tornado. We left the elementary to do activities at the middle/high school, and we basically escaped danger. A tornado hit really close to the elementary.
Where did this happen??
this happened at my high school with the fire alarms in the bathroom
2:48 no way, the Boeing 747
I understand it's fear so it's pretty irrational, but some these feel super stupid...... How do you mistake a bomb for a camera and balloons for gun shots? The amount of volume is not even in comparison....
How to cause chaos 101
Actually that warning for the tsunami is legit.. If you know anything about weather warnings its only bad if it says Tsunami watch...
any little thing triggers people nowadays... I was at the Orlando mall and was walking normal, i was even saying out loud; its nothing, you're all running over nothing.
Better safe than sorry
In thessaloniki we got a emergency alert about that there will be fire. Guess what there was no fire. That scare us
Last year we had a false gun threat at our school, hey we got to leave early!
Daymm... Brah these people stayed calm.

2:49 wait what?
If balloons remind you of an active shooter imagine if they heard a car backfiring in a parking garage!

2:03 dam right! I mistake that’s gunfire so that’s why I get scared. EVEYONE in the mall now has phobia of balloons. IM NOT Adam watch this part. I know the mall dosnt have carpets that absorb sound much but it’s so annoying to hear it.

Active Shooter, I would have FREAKED TOO
It happend to me one day. A false school shooting were about to struck. I were eating with my friends, and an alarm got off. Multiples kids got hurt due to panic, and alot were crying thinking it was real. Me, i was running as fast as i could, i really thought i was about to die. Also, there's a way in my school so, in case of real school shooting, we can go there. Well alot of people got there and tried to escape. But the Security were there and told them to go in their classes. Really, a day that i will never forget.
It's upsetting watching these people fearing for their lives, knowing if you popped balloons in my country, no one would think about it. It's just the sad reality for some people.
