    @hugodrax71. Correct. When Ferrari had the one, two lead. Ferrari told the drivers to slow down and save fuel. Villeneuve mistook this as a team orders meaning 'hold station' and while he slowed down to conserve fuel Pironi (who didn't see it as a team order) over took. Villeneuve took the lead again and slowed down again to conserve fuel. But on the last lap Pironi over took again to win the race. Villeneuve said he would never speak to Pironi again. Tragically he never did.

    @scoregoals Pironi was leading when the SLOW board came out (the lap after Arnoux retired)...the team thought Villeneuve was in front but he had made a mistake which allowed Pironi to pass...there was no fuel issue, the Ferraris still had 40litres of fuel at the end of the race...as for average performances, Pironi was outshone by Villeneuve in 81 although he had most of the bad luck (Enzo Ferrari said so himself) but it was different in 82...he was driving well before Imola

    @hugodrax71 in the early stages of the race it was free for all but generally Villeneuve was ahead in the early part - not that that is relevant. What is relevant was that Villeneuve was ahead when the slow signs arrived. He knew it was important to save fuel, especially on this circuit and he tried to but he was annoyed by Pironi who was desperate to win a race after some very average performances in 1981 and at the start of 82

    @EfnetCarsgtr2League sorry it's you who is confused...fastest lap of the race...Pironi 1.35.036 BEFORE Arnoux's retirment. Also, Pironi was challenging for the lead while Arnoux was still racing (watch the race, it's on youtube). In fact Pironi knocked Gilles back to 3rd place at one stage. Ferrari did not tell the drivers to hold position, that's a different order.

    @hugodrax71 Před 13 lety

    @scoregoals yes, Pironi wanted to win that race...he had a terrible 81 with no podiums after being the rising star of 80 at Ligier...back to Imola 82 and Gilles overtook Pironi on the penultimate lap and that was also quite ruthless...but you have to admit the Ferrari drivers and team were in a horrible situation that day, with the FOCA teams boycotting the race and then the inevitable retirement of the Renaults which just left Pironi and Villeneuve...this whole story is very sad

    @hugodrax71 Před 14 lety

    @EfnetCarsgtr2League Gilles lost the lead to Pironi by making a mistake (two wheels off the track) but he he then charged and overtook Pironi a couple of laps later...yet after the race he complained Ferrari drivers should not attack each other when they were in a 1-2 situation! Bizarre...also, there are also plenty of photos of the SLOW board saying 1. Didi 2. Gilles

    Yes. That's correct. It had to do with a retroactive ruling of FISA and the British teams withdrew of the event.
    PS: can anyone tell me the name of this song?

    Esta carrera fue donde Pironi le traicionó?? Es este el famoso incidente que hizo provocar el accidente y la posterior muerte de este genio llamado Gilles? Me podría informar? He leído algo de esto, pero no hay buena información y es incompleta...

    Stole? He just took what belonged to him. He was ordered to stay behind Gilles. I just wonder how many times ferrari gave order like that before this race?

  • @hugodrax71
    @hugodrax71 Před 14 lety

    Pironi didn't 'steal' anything at Imola...the team didn't order a win for Villeneuve...the drivers had equal status and it was only the 4th race of the season...the team put out SLOW boards after Arnoux retired and actually it was Villenuve who was the first to ignore this instruction, not Pironi

  • @hugodrax71
    @hugodrax71 Před 11 lety

    yet more inaccuracis on Imola 82...Villeneuve was NOT the no.1 driver...Villeneuve and Pironi had equal status in the team...as for obeying the SLOW sign and holding position (which Villeneuve later claimed Ferrari drivers were supposed to do in a 1-2 situation), why didn't Villeneuve stay behind Pironi after making a mistake and losing the lead on lap 46?? He never mentioned that after the race...always a mystery to me

    WTF Imola. Pironi betrayed Villeneuve; he shot his back in a way.

    hugodrax71 what exactly are you say????the 81 gilles stayed on the all last race behind sekhter because he was the no1 driver....the 82 gilles was the no1 driver and ferrari said to slow down for no risk(and not for fuel)...so simple.....gilles if not slow down would have won the race....SO SIMPLE....However I do not agree with this tactic of ferrari
