    Your content and Jordan Peterson’s content have lifted me out of dark places, and changed me to become a better man. Although his conservatism can sound jarring to our Californian sensibilities, the jab did hurt a little, because his work has empowered me to take responsibility, have integrity, and like with your style advice, carry myself with dignity.

      Agreed, you'd think someone who makes a career off of men trying to improve themselves would at least understand why Peterson has had such a profound positive affect on a lot of "lost" men and given them a direction forward. People clip too often clip a 10 second video of an entire 30 minute discussion around a complex issue, just to get clicks and a headline. He says things that may sound bold or unnerving, but typically it's when he's postulating on a hypothetical situation or being dramatic to drive a point home. Throwing out a cheap shot just seems... Petty, in my opinion. If you have watched his lectures, podcasts, interviews and read his books and don't findamentall agree with a lot of what he's saying, then explain why you don't in a constructive manner. Otherwise, name-dropping him in the manner done in this video just seems like you're doing it to show other liberals your "on the right side" so they can pat you on the back, meanwhile you're alienating your subscribers/watchers that do agree with a lot of what be says.

    Ashley, I'm on the older side of things (I'm 56) I would put the low top sneakers in the essential category if I was a younger man. I have sneakers for use on my treadmill, but as someone older than 50 I don't wear sneakers casually. For me: (yes to slippers (LL Bean), yes to Oxfords (Allen Edmonds) Yes to boots (Red Wing Iron Rangers) and yes to loafers (Allen Edmonds)

    great video. i do wear nice leather and shearling slippers/moccasins indoors. I found that daily wear can make them have a bad smell, since no socks. Cleaning wasn’t easy, and did not go well. However, I have since put inside them ‘odor eater inserts’ that are comfy, and keep my feet feeling very fresh and cleanl; most importantly, not stinky!
    Also, for cooking, I have my ‘kitchen shoes’…. ones where you do not mind getting dirty. I just happened to have clogs (Dansco’s).. the kind some medical professionals and chefs wear… not attractive at all, but I had them from prior job use, and I found great use for them. They offer easy on/easy off, so when entering and leaving the kitchen, and do not skin on wet floors. Just a suggestion…. ‘kitchen shoes’. 🤷‍♂️. I used to wear my nice slippers, but those are not the best for cooking; they get dirty, requiring regular cleaning

      Sometimes I feel like Ashley's recommendations need to be taken with a grain of salt. I think a classic wheat Timberland is essential if you're trying to pull off a more urban/street outfit. I try to dress up to Ashley's standards most evenings, but there's definitely days where a more casual and youthful streetwear style is more appropriate and looks great.

      An oxford is too formal of a shoe to wear with jeans. They should be reserved for dress slacks and suits. Derby's are a much more suitable shoe to wear with jeans.

      BIG YES!!!
      jordan 1 on a wedding!!!!

    • @djtaylorutube
      @djtaylorutube Před 2 lety

      Well that's completely inaccurate since brogue isn't a style as such but the name of the holes punched into the leather that form the medallion and other designs and was originally done to allow water to drain OUT of the shoe. The counterstyle to Oxford's would be Derby's which are a simpler construction where the uppers are an open construction rather than the closed construction of Oxfords. :) The more correct phrase therefore would have been "Oxfords not Derbys".
      Either way the whole formal/informal thing is somewhat meh, I have various gorgeous shoes which work excellently with jeans and the shoes just happen to be Oxfords. As far as the notion of formal goes, I wouldn't wear certain pairs with a suit because they aren't just plain dark brown/tan or black!

    • @stevenplayford5803
      @stevenplayford5803 Před rokem

      a brogue was at traditionally a country shoe so more casual, oxfords are more a full on dress shoe. I think some like derby brogue boots or chukka boots with jeans and shirt is hitting that smart casual mark, maybe some brown brogues at a push. I wouldn't wear oxfords with jeans personally too formal.

  • @RIDDLE0MASTER
    @RIDDLE0MASTER Před 2 lety +5

    Ashley, I see you put Dr. Martens on the budget boots list. I eyed them many times, but always avoided getting, for fear they are too chunkey, and as with Timberlands, have a too big of a toe box. I would really appreciate hearing your opinion on them (specifically in black, for a slim all black outfit, such as Dorian once wore).
    Cheers!

    • @idcjake10
      @idcjake10 Před 2 lety

      if you’re on the thin side it’ll bring attention to your feet but if you’re bigger then go for the made in London line. Quality is amazing

    • @Phlegm_Thrower
      @Phlegm_Thrower Před 2 lety +2

      Docs are nowhere near as chunky as Timberlands, which is originally designed as work boots. That said, Docs aren't as slim profiled as Chelsea Boots so if that's what you like, then go for Chelsea Boots.
      If there's a reason not to buy Doc Martens, it's because their quality has gone to shit. Even the Made in England one. They used to have lugged soles but now they have this super thin outsole that wouldn't last long at all, and they're a bitch to resole. So now they're only good for the occasional wear as a fashion item.

    • @barrymurphy1337
      @barrymurphy1337 Před 2 lety +3

      As Dave above has pointed out, Doc Martens quality control isn't what it was. I'd recommend checking out Solovair - they had the original licence to produce DMs in the UK from the 1960s to the 1990s and now make their own air-cushioned boots which are a far superior quality to DMs current offerings imo.

Regarding Oxford shoes: impractical for me; I will literally wear them once a year maybe for a wedding invitation... wearing them to work isn't comfortable enough.

    Hello Ashley or anyone who can help. I have a Brown suit and would like to know what color shoes that will work with my darker brown suit jacket and slacks in a semi-formal outfit? It's a nice darker brown suit. Would brown shoes clash?

    Well I'm person who lives near and loves the beach for surf and who is a waiter so always on my feet. I have low top white shoes with no laces. Which happened to be orthotic shoes. hich is good cause my feet are bad when I walk, but hardly warn cause hard to clean, but have been looking to get some good white shoes with laces, also Just recently for valentine's day, being a single guy I thought Id spend some money on some Milton Street Utility Boots which are leather and I love them. Only just under $250 and it's a shoe made in my country from a company called Rodd and Gunn. I never warn anything but sock's around the house so haven't thought about slippers bit anyways been trying to update my wardrobe and getting the boots was a great idea to complete a few outfits also since ppl tend to look at what shoes you have on, also makes me look taller and stand more prouder.

    Well, as a shoes maniacs 😆 i do have tons of shoes.... But todays with all the things happened in the world, i only wear Birkenstock clog in the house, low/high double zipper converse for practical short trips like groceries, lace up nubuck brown boots timberland earth keeper, i stayed out from the icon is to bright in 6 inches, prefer lower in that color to not get mixed with a rapper 😆..... Have never worn all my dress shoes,dress boots, other sneakers for 2 years now 😩

    When I was young I used to go into my friend’s house. I used to wander what the smell was. A few years later I realised that it was the smell of sweaty feat. None of them wore slippers. M.

      I think you'll know if you live in a place where that would work. Definitely wouldn't work well in a coastal or northern state, but would probably be received well if you live in the southwest or somewhere with a similar culture.

    Crocs absolutely have their place. I have a pair that I wear when wade fishing. They’re perfect. They’re comfy and the stingrays approve.

    I do think that Jodhpur boots are definitely the better choice over Chelsea boots. Also bomber jackets would never be in any way a fashionable choice ever where I live.
