THE BEST TWO PERSON TENT EVER? Taking a Look at the Hilleberg ALLAK 2

  • This is my first look at the hilleberg Allak 2 tent. I did a full camping video and review but like a deep fried chicken shaft I wipe my SD card. The second attempt was thwarted by my neighbours dog papping in my garden so it ended up taking three attempts. So please forgive me if i repeat myself or my energy is a little off, reviewing tents is harder than it looks lol.
    Only time will tell if I truly love this tent as much as I think I do and I look forward to giving it a run for it's money.

    Dear Brother Haze, I wanted to send it out into the universe that I just received my very own Hilleberg Allak 2 tent. I pulled the trigger as a result of this video and I really felt the need to say thank you. I love my Hillie and despite it costing me a leg and all of my savings, I plan on one-legging my way up into the Arizona mountains with her regularly. I will be laughing every time I see her stuff sack. Oh, and my bank accounts sends it's regards by way of the one finger salute, but my bank account is an asshole anyway. All the best as we get past this pandemic and find out way back into life. Thank you again.

    NB Hazey,,"Pole through red tabs, needs to be the highest-not explained in instructions" I picked that info up on a review page mate. It might help. Personally I go nowhere without my Aldi festival Mk1, but just my preference. It has a few down sides, but it has great, really great ventilation as the door zip is broken, and is quick to set up, in fact you just fold it and carry it under your arm. winner winner chicken dinner, well Aldi chicken dinner. I lack the sleeping mat and bags that I should have, but I find that after six cans of Special brew, I sleep ok, you lose a finger or two if it's frosty, but that's why we have spares. kindest regards friend xx

    Good in depth look of a great tent. I've got a Keb 2 from 1982, ( was Bo Hilleberg's 1st tent,1975), and it's still going strong ! A transverse ridge tent and I use 2 walking poles with it.
    This Allak will last you a lifetime+.
    For lightweight backpacking I use a Hilleberg Akto great tent, although not much height above your head when sleeping. For Bikepacking I have designed and built my own bike tent. Enjoy your trips. All best.

    If you want to spend a bit more, you could also purchase the Hilleberg Staika. It is a bit bigger and the tent bag is a bit larger and might not fit so tightly. At that price, make sure you don’t get any burn holes when you roast the dogs. Enjoyed - cheers from the US.

    Good tent choice! It’s expensive but, as you said in the video, it’s an investment if you tanke good care of it. I don’t use a footprint under my HB Allak 2. But that’s just a personal prefrence 😊 a tip to make your tentpoles last longer, fold it on the middle instead of starting from one side. That will create less stress on elastic cord inside the pole. Hope you take it out in some really bad weather! It’s a bunker! Looking forward to see more videos when you put the Allak to the test! Cheers! 🍻

  • @andrifsig
    @andrifsig Před 4 lety +4

    I have the Soulo myself, which really is just a one person variant of the Allak. I do my camping in Iceland and I was looking for the tents ability to handle wind and severe wind-gusts. For me the Hilleberg tents kind of set the standard in their construction and design. Nowhere near to being considered a light weight product but I would never buy some of the UL products for my camping. A safe shelter is so underrated and people that chase the lightness and compromise on quality and durability don't really camp in very bad weather.
    I use my Soulo on cycle tours. I would go for an Allak 3 for my car camping.
    And admittedly you can find other scandinavian brands like Fjallraven, Robens and others that produce quality tents for cheaper than the Hilleberg, but I think the strength of the Hilleberg just puts it in another league.

    • @HazeOutdoors
      @HazeOutdoors  Před 4 lety +3

      A great comment. I agree with everything you say. No point in me having an UL tent of it can’t cope on top of a mountain and driving wind and snow. While I’m still fit and healthy I don’t mind carrying the extra weight.

    Good choice. These Msr and big Agnes tents may not be bad, but they are not made for harsh conditions. Sure some people use them even in winter but if you ever had to put up the tent in strong winds, you know the constructions with outer tent pitched first make a lot of sense. I changed my msr hubba (nice, lightweight tent) because it was impossible to pitch it in high winds.

    Same hilleberg as i want. I originally thought soulo but if i was going to spend that much on a tent id want it at least a two man so it was more versatile as this can be used solo or with someone else..same colour as id like too as i think sand colour blends in more with the colour of the fells around me.
    The grass isnt green green its more like a brownish green. Dark green colour would actually stick out more against the fell grass..
    Good video though for sizing up as id watched so many reviews on this tent to try and grasp the internal size as the only real decision left for me was should i go fo a allak 2 or 3.. i think the allak 2 is plenty enough for me. Thanks for the review. Helped me with my decision. 👍

    As a pure hammock guy, I have to admit that looks a very well thought out and built tent, one that I could own if it could be hung between two trees ;)
    Fence only needs fixing one more time if you scare the crap out of the kids, or pay the little gits a bribe...

    You, lay in a tent that smells of dog pap in your back garden is the only thing that’s made me laugh in weeks!! Been recovering from coronavirus watching your videos... love them!!

    That Hilleberg greeny-brown colour is IMHO perfect for UK camouflage. However, I shall have to stick to my Pro-Action Tiger Paws Argos special due to financial constraints.

    Get it on the Cairngorm plateau in January that'll test it properly. I'll even get you a mountain guide to take you up if you want. 🤘

    That's alot of money BUT if it makes you feel good then it's fine. Personally, even though this video was interesting - I think I'm going for an MSR, an absolute beast Canadian CZcamsr uses one on 70 day adventures with his dog, and it just seems robust and not as expensive lol. Justin Barbour is the channel, when you see his content you will get it. Hazy does some tough locations too but Justin is on another level compared to ANY outdoors channel - not content wise, just simply outdoor weather conditions and such. Great video as always Hazy.

    I love that jumper!!!❤️❤️❤️ Way to properly break in the new tent: 1) review it, 2) delete the footage so you can make a better review, 3) test durability with dog 💩, 4) scrap 2nd review so you can have a deer do a guest spot in the final review!!!! Looks like a wonderful time!!!❤️💕❤️💕❤️

    Hello Mr Haze. Are you still enjoying your Hilleberg Allak and would you still recommend it. I have a Soulo and find it a bit on the small size so I considering changing it for a Allak 2. Thanks Steve 👍

    I think you need to run this tent against a comparison (cheap) tent side by side and see how they stack up over the next year :)

    It's a top tent mate, I'm going to eventually get the soulo. I've been saying that for like 3 years now but like you the price is crazy and I don't have any friends to chip in lol so I just need to pull the trigger and eat coco pops for a month after

    I spent several days and £250 putting up a load of 6ft panel fencing to keep my neighbours' dogs out. I love dogs, but hate irresponsible owners. Hope you meet the most Yorkshire Yorkshireman again one day.

    Welcome to the club Hazey . They're very good tents . I've had my AKTO over 10 years , it's been out in all sorts in all seasons , it's served me incredibly well , and it's virtually in as new condition . Look after it , and it'll look after you . Enjoy .
    What's Joey Von said about you lashing out a 1000 on a tent ?
