  • In this video, we discuss what versions of the 1992-2005 3 series are the best to build and why. We lay down the facts on which cars are the most reliable, make the best power, and what’s the best bang for the buck when building a drift car.
    Obviously there is much more to the discussion and we could talk all day, but these are the BIG points to hit on and understand.

    A tip that a lot of people don’t know:
    You can use a 92-01 Toyota Camry ball joint as a trailing arm bushing replacement. It’s a sealed spherical bearing and it only costs like $20. Fits perfectly in an E36 or E46 trailing arm pocket. Part number K200786. You’re welcome

It hydrolocked in a flash flood. Finally I bought an S52B32 and also supercharged it and bought everything M3 like the drive train etc. It was very expensive since I had to ship parts from the USA to the Philippines. I also don't see e36 in junkyards as much anymore which is a bad sign, they are disappearing.

The engine had a skimmed head and i did a port and polish job last year. Getrag gearbox ,323i auto whole subframe with diff(3.64). Both engine and gearbox come a long way in terms of being bashed around on limiter. I broke that gearbox last year and the engine broke 1 piston this year january. But power wise and response it really did the job. Plus i have e36 m3 euro custom exhaust manifold. Not trying to boost my channel but feel free to check it out for yourself.

    I just got "serious" drifting in the past year and I have a 318ti cali top that came with a 2.8 swap. I absolutely love it and it's a little weapon on the track however the axle issues pushed me to spend $3k on a 328 and retire the ti.

    Makin me feel old mate... Been in the game since 06 had my share of basically every "clout" car as the kids would say now-a-days. I was blessed to go to college in Japan and marry my Japanese wife and own all the legends and so on so forth. Seeing all the price explosion now-a-days kills me!!!!! "paid $3700 for a RZ 99 FD, $7200 for a 91 R32 GTR" As a new home owner and a kid I have a miata LMFAO! OMFG I hate it! But I still get my track days in and crush it. I always loved pushing the under dogs beyond what people think is capable. Best part, I was a instructor for Extremespeed and Speedventures for more than 6 years so I don't even pay for track days anymore I just coach when I have the time haha! Good content mate, we're old AF and wrenching on these is getting harder by the day, but keep on keepin on my dude! Good stuff. I won't do another E36 tho... Fkn-A I hate wrenching on those things! It's not the motor/drivetrain it's all the other shenanigans that the body/chassis harness integrates with >_< and I just don't wanna deal with em hahahaha!

    Hey, that gold E46 you show when you switch to that topic... that's mine. Like, mine was sold on Cars and bids twice, and the first listing photo is in this video. It now looks like a pack of Marlboro lights with the livery on it, and it's a full-time dedicated grip car. Small world!

      If anyone's curious, it's got a fully rebuilt M3 rear end, all poly/delrin/spherical bushings, chassis reinforcements, m54b30 from an e60, 330 brass guided front brakes, all steel lines, a ZF 5 speed, IRP shifter, 11lb flywheel and JB Racing clutch, deleted SAP, AC & washer reservoir, Power pulleys, billet oil pump, baffled pan, no interior, hard mounted buckets, widebody, Apex arc8 18's, hoosier A7 295s, SLR circuit control arms w/ bump steer kit, Silver's neomax 1 ways, Yellow tag steering rack with Ujoint instead of guibo, treehouse lollipop fcas, shmeidmann headers, dinan intake.... And everything else that I haven't mentioned has been touched too. It's been uhh... pretty built :) She rips though. Originally was a 325 but there is not a single 325 piece left in it. Both of the times it was listed, including the picture used in this video, are can be seen on carsandbids.

    Biig bmw guy 💪.
    It was fun comparing USA to UK knowledge of the 36/46 while watching this.
    Mad how much knowledge you have, mad that I can keep up to some extent 😂
    Never knew about the secret smg sauce 🤯
    Some things I would add from my personal experience from rain filled UK.
    325 with a 318 diff swapped (medium output cups cut and welded in and shafts) in is a perfect rain machine.
    This potion goes amazing with the following flywheel/clutch setup.
    M20b25 flywheel with the back machined down to save weight and avoid the sump. E30 325 clutch, e28 323i throwout bearing 👍.
    E46 power steering will always leak. Don't even bother trying to fix it 😂.
    E36 RTA pockets and subframe mounting points are turning into a similar situation as e46 floors now. Ripping out because of rott.
    If wife Chelsea could put more effort into the "cut" at the end please that would be great. didn't even slap the arms tohether, poor effort 😝

    I bought my 330i freshman year of highschool, been drifting it with a welded ever since. Bone stock, overheating till the rad cap blew off. Still serves its purpose to this day. I run 265/30’s in the rear and can keep up with any of the “stock-ish” cars on track. Buy a 330.

  • @timholubowitch9097

    Love the knowledge you give us guys. I do have a drive train question for you. I bought a basically a bone stock standard 350z factory lsd without vdc. Just had a touch screen and speakers. And after waiting a week to buy it, when I got it home same day i put on a bell race work diff brace and mcr shift knob lol. And you know z's on have one rear diff bushing. I planned on just doing z1 subframe metal inserts and nismo metal bushings or delrin. I dont see me swapping subframe bushings for quite a while cause its plan is a street/ weekend warrior with some good angle but with daily drive ability. Not concerned about nvh tbh. Would you say that would be a solid setup or soften the diff bushing to poly since it does have a brace?

  • @Driftbox29
    @Driftbox29 Před 9 měsíci +2

    E46 330 auto vs manual have oddly enough have different axles. Auto axles supposedly stronger. 330 come with bigger brakes. Not that that matters much for drifting. E46 M3 have factory widebody. So fitting angle and bigger tires under it is much easier.
    Can you please do a video about drift suspension set up. Like you did the solid axle on the fox? Like going into detail how what changes effects different things like grip side bite and so? I know some. But I’d love to tap into your yrs of experience of setting up these cars.

    When the world runs out of E36 and E46 it's going to be time to start running C-Classes. W202 and W203 230 kompressor cars with the M111 put out 193 crank ps, they are very cheap and come with forged internals, easily boostable. A bit more finicky with the electronics than an E36 though. When I save up I hope to do a drift build on my turbo diesel W204, which I expect to be challenging (it is a 1585kg or 3500lbs boat)

    • @Diamotors
      @Diamotors Před 9 měsíci

      For us, it is cheaper to use diesel plateforme to drift because they are cheaper than gas one and there is a lot of them.
      230k can be a a good one but I heard that there is something with the power delivery on early throttle in order the have a smooth power delivery. If that it fix, it can be fun, I guess

  • @heikoscheuermann

    The e36 can have the subframe ripping out problem, too. Just a few weeks ago i sat in the passenger seat of a road car, it has never seen a racetrack or drifting and i was like 'something feels not right back there'. His answer was 'one side of the subframe mount has nearly rusted through and the other side is rusty, too. That's not uncommon on E36s that are driven through the winter year after year'.

    Also, for anyone that has a 330i e46 and wants to start drifting. Do not even attempt to start drifting it without some kind of modification to the oil pump nut/sprocket etc. The best thing you can do is get the upgraded pump from SLG and call it a day because your oil pan gasket is probably leaking anyway.

    37:32 My E46 328i is 1260kg with medium weight reduction but a few of the guys I drive with have very lightweight 330i's at aroung 1020kg to 1050kg. That would be 2250lbs. This is extremely light and when you have 231hp (crank) they are plenty to drive 3rd gear tracks. If you do some NA mods like headers and cams and a tune and go into the 250-260hp range at this super light weight you will be way faster than any 350Z.
