Right now the Baltic Republics still have another nation that thinks they should just be annexed again so they should welcome any reporting that stresses the fact they are their own nations with their own chosen form of government.
      The reason you do not see those others referred to as the Republic of Ireland or the French Republic often is mostly down to familiarity vernacular (Though a google search found plenty of times they are still referred to as such). The longer something is around in the same state the more likely you are to shorten the name to a more familiar and less formal version. This goes for nations or companies/brands and even for people you become familiar with over time. For nations familiarity takes longer but those that have retained the same basic form of governance for many many generations it will become more and more normal to cut that name to a more familial size. A scant few refer to the United States of America as such anymore but mostly as U.S. or America. That is because of how long it has been around in that particular governmental state but early on in its youth it was referred to with its full name much more often especially by itself to stress that fact they were independent of the nation of which they became independent from.

NATO naval & Air forces would pound the Russian controller land area from the North, Latvian and Lithuanian NATO land & Air forces from East and Polish, German and 100 other NATO countries land & Air forces from the West.
    And Russia would lose Suwalki Gap along with Kaliningrad in hours.

    I think they and other East-European countries need mainly state of art defensive system against ICBM-s, long/medium range missiles and anti aircraft systems. The Russian tactic has changed to long range weapons, after they stuck at Ukrain. I don’t know we have anything against the new hypersonic missiles, but if we dont have we have to develope one ASAP.

    • @gregparrott
      @gregparrott Před 2 lety

      The U.S. developed hypersonic missiles in the 1970's, but shelved them, as their cost did not match the benefits they offered. I imagine now that Russia and China are 'hyping' them, the U.S. DOD will dust off the old binders and resume implementation of them. But, analyst have commented that the few hypersonic missiles Russia has used so far have shown little value over 'regular' missiles. I think the argument is ..."What difference does it make if I deliver a 1000 pound warhead at subsonic (e.g. cruise missile), supersonic (regular missile), or hypersonic speed? While the hypersonic missiles will be harder to shoot down, even low flying subsonic cruise missiles are very hard to shoot down, and regular missiles nearly impossible. Hypersonics only offer a marginal improvement against air defenses. Yet they are much more expense . In the end, analysts suggest costly missiles should be used on specific, higher value targets, while the rest is pummeled by lobbing large volumes of relatively low cost explosives (e.g. dumb bombs, mortar and artillery shells)
