The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

In 1967, I used to live in Lahore, Pakistan. As a 9 year old child, 4th grader I visited my uncle in Sialkot, Pakistan where I first heard the song and ever since this became my favorite. The record and the player belonged to my uncle but I could not stop playing it agin and again. 57 years later while living as a retired physician in Dallas, TX with my wife, daughter, her husband and 2 beautiful grand children, while surfing the CZcams, at 11:49 pm I suddenly came across the Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood "Summer wine". I do not know where those 57 years went but the sweet and refreshing taste of "Summer Wine" is still the same!
beautiful man.
great story! And yes where have the years gone?
Same age and same feeling...😊
❤
Lee Hazlewood is so underrated. Great voice and writer.
'strawberrys cherrys and an angels kiss in spring'......he could write !!!!
I think so was Ed Sullivan. TV at its best.
Thank you. Sugar Town, Some Velvet Morning. Nuff said.
Hazelwood was also a great producer. Duane Eddy, Sanford Clark, etc.
Writer sure!! Voice i doubt!
It's 2024 and this song is still magnificent. Thank you Nancy & Lee....Brilliance never dies 👏👏👏
No clowning no goofyness & parading. Tremendous. Live. They treat this song with respect. Serious stuff - love it
Вы правы.
Люди были настоящими!!!
I couldn't agree more. It leaves 2days music in the shadows.....
@@juliemontgomery9148there’s some good artists today even though it doesn’t show up in the mainstream.
One of the best duets in history.
The giggle of Nancy in this clip is one of the most charismatic things I've ever seen in my life
I read this just as she giggled. Sent chills.
Agreed
I'm 74 and it's 2024, and I was watching a movie on Netflix last night and this song played. I had forgotten all about these two and that song. It brought back so many memories, including this song. They were a great duo and I loved this song. I've played it several times today, along with some other oldies and just wallowed in the nostalgia of those days and how good life was then. I miss those days 😢
Hard to believe this wonderful song only made it to number 49 on the charts.
That sounds unbelievable. This song, alongside 'Lady Bird' by them, should've gone to number 1.
no it isnt
Hard to believe it made it THAT high!
But it made until now 2023 and does mass knockout on today's pop. Is appreciated more than ever. Truth always comes with time and good things are worthy of time.
But It will still played til the end of time.
My 78 yr old grandmother has dementia. She started singing this song Word for Word. I’ve never heard anything else from Nancy besides, these boots are made for Walkin. The song has a special place in my heart.
The power of music is just amazing. It does many things for us in the positive way. Another is that it keeps us in good health longer if we are avid listeners.
What a duo. Nancy visited Lee when he was dying.
Lee was a personal friend of mine and I miss him dearly but the many years that we spent together were some of my favorite memories especially when we went to Sweden! We had more fun together and I will never forget the late 60s and the 70s we spent together.
R. I. P. Barton
Nancy is without a doubt one of the most beautiful woman from the 60's. Totally flawless and a complete knockout.
Grace slick and Michelle Phillips too.
Probably because of the beautiful mom she had!!!!
Omg, you must be high...
She was an absolutely stunning young women, probably the most beautiful women I have ever seen.
And me...I looked stunning in those days.
Still do...fabulous time.
Stunning duo...
I'm 48 years old and thought i'd heard all the good songs of the 60's but i heard this for the first time today and was knocked out by it.
Love that voice of Lee Hazlewood, perfect voice for a cracking song! Coupled with the beautiful Nancy it’s brilliant!
Nancy is mediocre at best.
Three note vocal range lol...
He was great wish he lived longer
@@LarryWhite-kw5mj agreed, he had a very distinctive voice 👍🏻
His voice makes the song.
Hello Annie
How are you doing today?
he wrote it too
Nancy's intro is beyond fantastic. Lee's voice is so cool. This song is way more tranquilizing than the summer wine itself. A song that I never get tired of listening to.
Gefällt mir auch sehr gut auch die anderen sänger die es gesungen haben
Back then you really had to be able to sing. Those two voices just fit that song so perfectly
Their collaboration can NEVER be duplicated.....A FREAK OF NATURE....OR....H E A V E N S E N T? BREATHTAKING!
Hello Joan
How are you doing today?
It’s 2023 now and the song is still rocking!🎉❤
This duo is the only reason why I wish I would’ve been born in the 50s/60s… Lee is truly my favorite singer all time
We are extremely blessed to be able to see and listen this amazing experience. We'll never have musicians like this ever again. My god what a jam this sounds so modern yet so classic.
Lana Del Rey did a great cover of this one, she is very similar to sounds of the 60's
... .. That is so true ... Im so glad to have been there in the 60,s to hear it first time ,, And am still listnin & lovin today .... cheers .
@@RestoredMedia no one can top Nancy&Lee
@@RestoredMedia - Lana Del Rey is hopelessly un-orginal.
@@paolo-n2000 😂😂
This still gives me the chills it sounds better than ever to me. Haunting production with gorgeous vocals from Nancy and Lee. They make such a lovely couple. I love the way this brilliant performance was filmed. Timeless classic 60s pop.
Acabei de assistir um filme que tocou essa música, pôr isso vim aqui pesquisar, linda amei
Nancy Sinatra, stunning looking woman, superb voice
Uncle Rico has a way better voice than I ever thought. I bet he could still throw a football over that mountain.
Remember my parents listening to this Classic on the radio i was 5 when this was released.
I wish we had music like the 60s ,70s and the 80s they were the 3 Greatest decades Ever.
Never Get those times again worse luck, unless someone builds a Timemachine if Only !!!
50s 60s and the 70s greatest time to be alive….
THOSE WERE THE DAYS ❤
Dancing, drinking, having fun.
Thank You dear Daddy that you showed me the bright side of life ❤
We’ll meet soon 👋🏻
Lee and Nancy had a great musical chemistry. Lee was sort of like the spaghetti western version of Neil Diamond.
A perfect description! 😉
@@AegisNova Lee was originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma so he had that country draw in his voice.
@@joekhatib3798 I did not know that! Thank you!
Yeah
Perfect.
Once upon a time, artists produced quality songs both lyrically and musically. Songs that were a delight for the ears of every music lover. You could listen to it endlessly. It had a special impact on many. Unfortunately this is faded glory. Lee HAZLEWOOD & Nancy SINATRA... pure youth sentiment...! Thank you Lee & Nancy for this beautiful masterpiece including the songs "Lady Bird" & "Jackson". R.I.P. Lee...!I will never forget you. Greetings from Belgium (Europe) and Florida (USA) - Marc.
Didn't even know this song existed until I was watching 60s music with my mum , and didn't realise Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood were made for this great sound of the 60s , now I can't stop playing it 😂❤
Ditto, Gaynor !!
NANCY and LEE!! PERFECT MUSIC!
A beautiful voice from both
71yo, I have always loved this song and Finally I get to see the Artists singing it. Many thanks 😊
Sounds like a Bond song. 🙂
She recorded "you only live twice" theme song
@@readbetweenthelineslll1635 huh?
There is a little lick from the James Bond Theme there. Nice plug into the storyline of the song.
I thought the same thing. If you strip out the vocals, it could be a soundtrack from a Bond movie.
True. Also sounds like a song that could show up in a Tarantino movie.
Such a beautiful melody ..those haunting voices make you want to listen over and over..
Hello Donna
How are you doing today?
The alchemy of their voices is wonderful . Love the music they created together.
No musicians of today can ever intrigue us like the way the oldies do
You might want to look up Roy Khan in that case.
Pure class the dress nowadays is pure garbage
Dross
Their duets were amazing.
Incredible duetted song, why does it make me cry? Sinatra and Hazelwood's voices are incredible.
Wish the two of them had done more together ...the stuff they did was classic
Hauntingly beautiful. I've watched this video repeatedly since it was posted 10 hours ago and can't get enough of this perfect presentation and performance. It's been a long time since I heard this song, and, well, 54 years since I saw this on Ed Sullivan. Thank you _so much_ for posting!
Same here.... can't stop watching & listening.
I've been listening to this many times too, this is way better than the recording my god, and the instrumental is way better too.
Corrs and bono better
@@kevinreilly9482 Still, one has to give credit to the creators or we have no Corrs and bono version...
Another nice version is done by the Corrs and Bono.
The million people who purchased "Sugar Town" in late 1966/early 1967 must have been very pleased to turn the single over and hear this gorgeous song. So amazing that the song ended up getting enough airplay to chart as a B side at #49 before being set aside by Nancy & Frank's monster duet "Something Stupid" (produced by Hazelwood), which had just been released. But Nancy & Lee would continue to release duets & hit the top 40 three times. Must have been very gratifying for Lee, who until then, had been behind the scenes writing and producing Nancy's hits.
I loved the album Lee and Nancy made, together. Great music. I thought their version of, ‘Jackson,’ topped Johnny and June’s.
@@buckjohnson1119 ; Yeah, that version is fantastic.
how did Nancy and Lee meet ?
@@glennhfriedman4571 He was a singer/songwriter. He wrote ‘The fool .’ He came up with the idea of lower sounds effects for Duane Eddy’s music. He went on into producing. Frank asked him to direct/produce for Nancy. He wrote some beautiful songs. Nancy and Lee’s vocal chemistry produced very enjoyable music. They were business partners and then life long friends from the 1960’s , as far as I know.
@@buckjohnson1119 Frank had nothing to do with it at all. Mo Ostin had put Nancy together with Jimmy Bowen and they recorded “In The Wee Small Hours” and “True Love,” which were not hits. Jimmy was friends with Lee who told him he knew how to record her. Lee then pitched himself to Mo who was about to drop Nancy from Reprise. He told Mo he would get Nancy a chart record their first time out. Mo gave her another shot and they recorded “So Long, Babe” which charted and they offered her a new deal.
Lee n Nancy are incredible on this fantastic song❤
"Summer Wine" was just Divine! Between Nancy's animated facial expressions, and that slight giggle at 2:16, she just sucks you right in! She definitely knows how to work that camera. Thank you for sharing! 💖
I didnt even notice her. Hazlewood is amazing.
Nancy Sinatra y Lee cantaban bellisimo aquellos tiempos!!!!!!
@@sharksport01 Your loss
she' so beautiful in this, yes sucks you in, working the camera!
Please was gonna write something, after reading your comment I can’t as your said it all impeccably well.
This is pure class (the song writing, the delivery, the visuals, the presence)
Just heard this for the 1st time on the radio today. Couldn't wait to finish work to CZcams. ❤

Old is Gold. This evergreen song will keep entertaining generations.
Rolling Stone Magazine ranked this as The #9 duo of all time. In the late 50's Lee helped Duane Eddy develop his twangy guitar style and produced many of his hits.

Nancy is the first Sinatra that I knew, but as I got older her dad became one of my all time favorite singers. The Ed Sullivan Show vaults are a national treasure.
It was the 60 ,s and this is pop classic :)
What a sensuous duet this was from two talented people. Great song. Yeah, Nancy and Lee were gorgeous together.
He was unorthodox and eccentric in his approach. Hollywood didn't care for him.
Nancy and Lee , they were made for each other . Lee , the epitome of masculinity , and Nancy , a true Femme Fatale . Their voices are incredible and fit together perfectly . I treasure each of their collaborations . Each , a classic for all times . The staging of this performance was pure genius . One attaboy to the Sullivan crew. This aired 8 days before my 16th birthday .
Nancy's Sinatra's voice is one of my favorite female voices.
🍷Absolutely beautiful 🍷
I Just LOVE this song. I was a kid
Love the James Bond riff built into it. 🎉
Una vita che non l'ascoltavo: eppure sono nato in quel periodo. Che canzoni e che anni; che non torneranno mai più!!!😘👍👍
Thank you Nancy and Lee for your pure creative genius. Simple as that. X
Lees voice is so amazing, great song
Rip lee
Lee was a great singer & songwriter
Nancy is a classic beauty.
Such songs come out once in a thousand years....Such artists as well!
Как приятно , когда люди поют , а не орут . Не устаревающая песня на все времена .
感謝上傳!
他們的聲音真是美妙、不做作、上帝的傑作,應封作金嗓!
Stunning performance, amazing vocals, timeless song
Americana, no CGI, just talent, thank you.
RIP The Great Duane Eddy A fabulous musician🎶🎶🎶
beautifull
Bellissima canzone e Lee ha una voce strepitosa abbinata a Nancy: l'avevo ascoltata per la prima volta nella soap opera tedesca "Tempesta d'Amore" e mi è rimasta nel cuore.
Gotta love this song and the amazing voices. 😘
Hello Dear
How are you doing today?
This is classic !!!
Wow !! Wonderful, I can't wait to see Nancy Sinatra with Lee Hazlewood singing this beautiful song, thank You !!!
Still listening in 2023!
Nancy and Lee at their best with a great story song. I vividly recall seeing this when it first aired. First time seeing it in color.
Yup, we're getting old.
@@marywillis1630 AWESOME
A wonderful song . ❤️❤️
Beautiful duet by the gorgous and talented Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood.
a great and timeless blue country!
Don’t know wether Nancy is the most beautiful but her voice is certainly most beautiful. Some melodies like this duo are so captivating that they go through the ears directly to the heart and overwhelm you.
lee Hazlewood the best
Lee's a personal favourite and this is sublime. Nancy is perfection.
What a beautiful duo!! This song is ageless.
Lee wrote and sang this,so sad to see his gravesite when i looked him up,rip.
I'm 62 and I've just heard this.
What a good song
Good old days, I love it
Her outfit 🤩
this is music, unlike the trash of today. lee was a man ahead of his time. what many dont know he arranged this song n many others. plus a prolific writer,HEAVEN is brighter with his talent. GOD BLESS U SIR
De gyönyörű ez a nő. Annyira imádom a haját. Nagy kár, hogy már nem hordják így a nők a hajukat.
She's now 83 and still just as gorgeous!
That’s true 👍
Top notch this
The story is excellent to follow, the lyrics and tune is fantastic, but that background music sets the dark, suspenseful tone, that is hypnotizing and exquisite!!! It hit only #49 on the Billboard Hot 100, after its Dec. 1966 release. A must have for all Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood fans! She will be 82 (!!!) this upcoming June 8 (2022). Sadly, we lost Lee at 78 to kidney (renal) cancer. Jul. 9, 1929 - Aug. 4, 2007. He was 37 and Nancy 26 in their Ed Sullivan Show appearance. This is what the art of storytelling in song is all about! Grade: A+
Summer Wine is my favorite duet of all time. Nancy is beautiful and has such a sexy voice and Lee ‘s deep sound is classic. This song is one of the best of the 60s and why that decade has never been matched.
She reassured me with an unfamiliar line, then she gave to me more summer wine! ☀ 🍷
Great song, great arrangement. Thanks!
Magnificent! Takes me back many years and still sounds great.......
I was a wee little kid when we got our first color TV set. I was sitting with my mom and dad and watched this when it broadcast.

Very classy masterpiece of a legand
