Pep Guardiola admitted Manchester City are currently "struggling" after their 1-0 loss at Aston Villa on Wednesday night left the Premier League champions winless in their last four league matches, down in fourth place and six points off the pace of leaders Arsenal.
Leon Bailey's deflected strike earned Villa a deserved 1-0 win over City, while also maintaining their perfect home record this season, and Guardiola said the credit belonged to Unai Emery's team on the night, but admitted he had much to think about to get their title defence back on track.

I have been giving attention to Aston Villa . They are a well organised, confident team. A dark horse. Could win the league. Unexpectedly.
Would be quite something if a Midlands team wins the league the following season after a Midlands team which won the league got relegated the season before.
As a Villa fan I feel a title challenge is still quite a distance away for us but with the Champions league places hopefully going down to 5th place we are 100% in that race.
Yeah CL definitely needs 5 PL teams. Scratch that, 6 even!
Yeh should be 6 and remove Scottish teams
with that quality and consitent play at home . top 4 is so so possible . but the focus this year is probably to win conference league . emery wants a trophy 😂

Villa were nothing short of amazing last night! As an LFC fan I've seen my team have some smashing results against City, but even in games where we were scoring 3 or 4 against them I never saw them be so comprehensively outplayed as they were by Villa last night. To win against ManCity is one thing, but to completely outplay ManCity in every department is quite another, so massive credit to the Villa players and massive credit to Emery (I've been saying it for a few seasons now, he's a criminally underrated manager).
Please do the same against Arsenal on Saturday and maybe Liverpool can go top 🙏🏻😜

It's about damn time both of our clubs bother the " big 6 ". Soon Newcastle and Villa will replace Spurs and maybe Chelsea

Newcastle has always been a sleeping giant. It's a shame that money talks, but that's the reality. Hopefully, Newcastle and my team Villa can consistently be pushing for top 4, Premier champions, etc, from now on.
Always loved villa as a Liverpool fan made up you beat city and hope you do Arsenal. Its great to have a exiting top of the league, where there is 5 or 6 points between the top 4 or 5🎉
Why is it always "Where has it gone wrong" when a top 4 team gets beat? The gap in quality is closing and Villa showed that with complete dominance
Bcz bigger teams have more quality players, so obviously, when they lose, there'll be questions in the air. The gap in quality is reducing, but you'd be naive if you genuinely think a 100 percent Man City would lose the way they did to Villa yesterday.
Because we have 3 wins in the last 9 games, with 12 points from 27 available; there's clearly an issue with City - it's an unrepresentative game.
In all fairness they asked that to Pep after the game and he didn’t say ‘what went wrong’ he said that AV played better…
Because we’ve never been dominated that badly
@@sfb4144hmme, didn’t even think it was that bad, 3 wins in 9 games is legitimately relegation form or bottom 5 at best

Bailey’s price tag went up after last night, the foot work and dribbling skills. He outplayed 3 on 1’s and the 2 on 1’s. He just needs to work on finishing these shots and he will fly high and far.
Selflessness, that proved the difference for Aston Villa.
The secret to City's successes under pep so far. When you got all that quality and you ain't selfish, you'll go far!

Just 6 years ago we finished 14th in the championship. Now I dare to dream about winning the Premier League. Madness
As a Villa fan it was a brilliant night but for us to win the league is highly unlikely, we're too inconsistent away from home recently losing to Forest and drawing with Bournemouth respectively.
A top 4 challenge is definitely on the cards and that is quite a miracle considering we were in the championship a few seasons back and just about stayed up the season after....just over a year or so back we couldn't win a game until Emri arrived....be tough against Arsenal Saturday... hopefully we continue this run and not come back down to earth with a bang...UTV

It's nice to hear some pundits giving Villa credit. What a win.
I think this season, after last seasons Treble,City are suffering more Mental exhaustion than physical exhaustion
To do what they have done over the last 5-6 years, winning Domestic Treble as well as the ultimate Treble and multiple League Titles
mental exhaustion has set in and, coupled with the high intensity of the Premier League,I think it has finally caught up with City and that's why this Season could be one of the closest title races in years

Look I’m not saying this year is the same as other in terms of there’s really only 2 teams challenging for the title, and city is always of 1 of the 2. This year there’s a 4-5 horse race for it. But I’m not stressing about city, they always start like this and figure it out later in the season
Am happy Aston villa won because am an Arsenal fan ❤😂🙏
Aston Villa proved that the hardest battle against City is a mental one. I can’t remember a spell of play where it looked like they lost their composure. Unreal performance
Every one of Villa's starting line up is an international player, that coupled with a elite manager = ..............
Amazing game
I was surprise to see Pep play Stones in midfield while Kevin is on the bench
Some difference in change of manager some turnaround wouldnt have happened under Steven Gerrards watch emry quality manager
This is actually insane
Tactically, the way we can beat villa are to press high and win the ball high. They are still not the best at playing out from the back. If I was Arteta I would just play long balls and not play out from the back at all for that game. Take a hit on posession cuz villa have alot of speed on the counter.
Villa are great at playing out from the back especially at home yes there is the odd mistake but I wouldn’t say it’s much of a weakness.
Brighton tried that at VP 6-1
Villa playing from the back is why they are top 3…
Dont be fooled guys. After winning the treble, its understandable to have a little slack off. Their normal motivation apparently is not there but they would still be among the frontrunners together with Arsenal and Liverpool. Sooner or later, they would regain back the form that won them practically everything including the champions league last season. Looking very like a three horse race which should please all football fans.
Emery is a serial winner
Always doubting City 😂 see you at the end of the season lol
Liverpool fan , this is how they trying to create hype, City can easily humble them over a few games, one game , now city is going downhill😂😂😂, it's a season not a fa cup or carling cup
It’s the points deduction that could ruin city’s hopes
Watkins isn't much of a worry...he's very robust having hardly missed a game in many seasons, plus Duran isn't a bad player in his own right, and they may get someone else in January.
Away from is the main concern, on other days we lose at Spurs and Chelsea don't go down to 10 men early on. Absolutely incredible at home tho.
Our away form may have been indifferent but the only hammering was at Anfield, and at Forest we simply didn't turn up. If we had an extra 3 players we wouldn't have dropped points elsewhere
Any danger in updating the villa badge you use ?????
Unai Emery may very well triumph over Arteta come this weekend... Confidence is sky high and rightly so, not just because they've just beaten the reigning Champions but they've been playing impressive game of football for quite a while now .. Unlike many other clubs, Villa have been lucky enough to not struggle with a long list of injury crisis.. Their squad look very solid
Mings and Buendia out all season!! Moreno and Ramsey just coming back. All were 1st team starters when fit. Diego Calos not long back too. Every team has injuries. Want to reassess your comment?
Buendia out for the season, Mings for the season and Ramsey plus Moreno only just back after long term injury, that is almost half a first team of bad injuries, so injury crisis for Villa too
Well that's just 3-4 players and some are getting back to fitness and getting some game time as well... Newcastle have got 12-13 players out for injuries and all are senior/first team players, playing the very same XI for quite a some time now with very little options from the bench.. I dont deny the fact that Villa do have some injuries but they are bearable
Arsenal have been the only team that beat this Villa team till date. City had no midfield yesterday, Arsenal will be more prepared on Saturday. Rice will show up on Saturday possibly with a double pivot of Jorginho just to make sure we deny balls to Bailey and Watkins. We will control the game better than City did bcos City's midfield were non existent. Remember Arsenal don't give up chances easily. It is not by accident that they're on top of PL table. Besides I tot Arsenal was the first to beat City before Villa so what is so special about that? Arsenal play with more witdth and will stretch the pitch unlike what City did yesterday. And yes we like people that actually open up and attack us. Our front 3 are deadlier than Villa's. They should be worrying abt Arsenal more. I am confident Arsenal will beat Villa on Saturday. They're a good side but we are simply a better team.
Our injuries have been brutal mate. We've been playing with CD'S at full back. CM'S on the wing.
Mings out for season
Buendia out for season
Carlos coming back from ACL
Ramsey out for 3 months
Moreno out for best part of 5 months

Liverpool went for the quadruple season after they came in fatigue and underperformed, Man city got the trebble and they come in fatigue this season so much games to compete in but im putting liverpool or arsenal or city to win
I don't think it's a fair comparison because:
- Liverpool didn't rotate players nearly as much as Man City during their Trebbe run, so City should be more rested overall.
- City has had loads of refreshment in the squad, so I don't see how valid this excuse can be, when at least 4 players on the pitch at all times are recent signings or players that barely got playtime last season.
- Besides not rotating as much, Liverpool had to deal with horrendous spells of injuries from players they could not afford to lose, while City is coming in and out of injury spells with squad depth.
Truth of the matter is, Villa was the better team. They played against a top Man City and they won, simple as that.
@@godlovesusall8115Pep isn't even playing these "recent signings" you're talking about, aside from Doku, he's basically playing the same squad he played last season but with the players having different roles due to certain injuries and sold players. So yes ogs comment makes a valid point.
