I like this story. A similar story is the princess of Mt Ophir, a Javanese princess wooed by a Malaccan Sultan. In order to gently dismiss his proposal she put forth a list of things which are near impossible to fulfill. Among the items were, 7 trays of tears of virgin girls, 7 trays of the heart of mosquitoes, a bridge of silver and gold linking the palace to her abode in Mt Ophir. The Sultan only relented when she requested for the beating heart of his eldest prince. The moral of the story is people in power will pay any price to achieve their dream as long as it doesn't hurt them personally 😅... I do wonder, how long it will take Disney to incorporate these stories into their growing list of Disney princesses.
Thanks for the story! I do like the idea of dark Disney movies :p

One modern interpretation of the ending of this tale that I like is found in the manga "Kaguya Wants to be Confessed to". It's just a modern high school romantic comedy and the titular character bears no similarity to the princess Kaguya in the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, aside from her name, but in one of the chapters, the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter becomes a topic of discussion.
In this chapter, one of the characters talks to Kaguya (the character from the manga) about how the tale ends tragically with princess Kaguya leaving Earth and giving the elixir of immortality to the emperor. He interprets the ending as the emperor being completely oblivious to princess Kaguya's true intentions. He thinks that princess Kaguya gave the emperor the elixir of immortality as a way of telling the emperor that she will one day return, but long after a single human's lifespan. Giving the emperor the elixir of immortality was her way of telling him to wait for her, but he couldn't read between the lines and ordered it destroyed at the nearest mountain
I like this theory because it clears up something that I found strange in the original tale. Why did Kaguya not give the emperor the same impossible tasks as the others? Why did she continue to be friends and stay in contact with him after she rejected him even though he was persistent in his proposals? I think Kaguya did reciprocate the love of the emperor but knew that she couldn't marry him since she was bound to return to the moon someday. Then, just like the theory in the aforementioned manga, she gave the emperor the elixir of immortality as a way of telling him to wait for her for she will one day return. But then homeboy couldn't read the room and destroyed it. Truly, he was the first dense anime protagonist in history.
I’m really starting to think something like this went down to make Kaguya so pissed at Mikado. But I also think that Miyuki won’t let her down the second time around, like he sorta promised in the moon-viewing chapter.
Ravioli ravioli your personal headcannon is now mine.
The ED for Season 3 is Miyuki dreaming of this.
In this dream he drinks the elixir, and waits till humanity becomes space faring before launching an invasion to reclaim her.
He kept his promise in his dream.
In the anime _"The Tale of the Princess Kaguya"_ the music playing when the procession of celestial beings descends from the Moon to take Kaguya back is the most beautiful music I have ever heard.
The most beautiful music during the most saddest situation
Just watched it last night and I was amazed at the creative choices throughout, but the music of the moon people at the end was the most inspired creative choice of them all. It brought home the implied analogy that her be taken was akin to death and that although the afterlife is a painless world of perfect existence, it is nevertheless a tragic experience to leave the world and everything and everyone you love behind. I'm not even a little bit ashamed to admit that I was weeping for a hour afterwards, and it's starting again now. This movie will stick with me forever.

Is this the same folktale from the Ghibili film Princess Kaguya??
It sure is!
Indeed it is
And kaguya frok naruto verse
It's a "work of fiction" so prominent in Japanese culture and history that Sesame Street incorporated it into their Big Bird visits Japan special - as Big Bird effectively is shown around Japan by Kaguya, herself.
Of course, Japan knows it isn't a work of fiction. They still maintain their Imperial Regalia, which come from their founder goddess, amaterasu.
This is somewhat widely known among people who have the time to stop being peasants and know things - which is, in part, why many things in the west are named after greek gods/goddesses and why many space faring factions in sci-fi are given Japanese names for their ships.
The truth isn't "out there" - it is right in front of us. But more on that in a bit... Mars is a matter of national security .... Remember that.
yes it is, but there are some slight alterations in the plot of the film: like Sutemaru, and the lady that has become Kaguya's teacher.
But it was not confirmed if such characters really do mentioned in the original folktale.
those dislikes was from Fujiwara no Mokuo's main and dummy accs...
kaguya404 Clearly. You know there isn't anybody who would use these powers for evil with the intent of conquest.

Title: *mention the name Kaguya*
Touhou weebs: Bonjour
"Yeah, you wished your parents named you with a title."
Well, most common names in the West have some pretty cool meanings, but since many of them originate from an ancient language that isn't spoken anymore, these meanings tend to be sadly obscure.
Did you mention in another video that your given name was Rob or Bob? Either way, that's a diminutive of Robert, an old Anglo-Saxon name with Teuton roots, believed by most historians and linguists to originate from the Proto-Germanic Hrōþiberhtaz, which meant something like 'fame-bright' or'glory-bright'. Not sure what that name is supposed to tell about its carrier.
Other such names include Magnus (from Latin magnus, 'great', mostly popular in Scandinavia, likely originating from the medieval Norse mistaking the epithet of the Frankish king Carolus Magnus (i.e. Charlemagne) for his second name), Alexander (from Greek aléxandros, 'defender of men'), and Michael (from Hebrew mī kāʼēl, 'who is like god').
Nope, my given name is Linh, which means smart in Vietnamese 😉
Those of us with Latin names just get lucky 😂
Germanic naming customs wouldn’t have required the combination of name elements to have a coherent meaning (when considered together).
Hrothgar and Ulfbert have the same first and second element respectively.
Fame-spear and Wolf-bright.
@@polyhistorphilomath Ah yes, Hrothgar. In modern English, that name exists as Roger.
Oooh! My irl given name means "hope" in Yoruba (according to my mother, anyways) and all six of my middle names mean "cherished" in some way or form in the same language!

This was made into a movie called “The Princess Kaguya” I have watched it and I advise it to anyone who wants to learn about this specific tale.
So this is the inspiration for characters of Kaguya-Sama Love is War. They even mention the tale itself in the story. I know there is an arc of Impossible Task of obtaining the Swallows Cowrly an I think there was something about the Buddha's Bowl. It's really cool to see the original tale. Thank you for the vid!
Momoshiki : Hey Kaguya! I came to punish you.
Kaguya: Celestial Moon Beings!!
The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter is one of my favorite fairytales. There are multiple recountings of it with small variations. One version says she was sent to earth for committing a crime, another says it was to keep her safe from a celestial war. There's a version that has the emperor's men being paralyzed by the mere presence of the moon people, another says they shot but the arrows bounced off harmlessly. One says the emperor burned the elixir of life out of grief, another out of fear. There are ones that go into more detail about the 5 suitors and their journeys. I've tried to find as many versions of it as I can. I'm not even sure why I like it so much, but I do.
So this is where Zun gets its inspirations to have the touhou IN
You guys need to watch 「The Tale of the Princess Kaguya」 from Studio Ghibli!!
I've heard good things about that
Linfamy It’s definitely worth the watch! The storyline is good, and the art is superb!

@Amazing Spiderman Fan 2002 I can't exactly say if it's a happy ending or not, but for Kaguya I'm pretty sure it's a happy ending
In other words
It's a power struggle between the wealthy. The five people who proposed to the moon princess Kaguya have their own models.
・Prince Ishitukuri is said to be the “tajihishima“ of Minister of the Left. (Emperor Senka's of fourth grandchild.)
・Prince Kuramochi is said “Fujiwara‐no Fuhito“. his mother was Kuramochi clan. He may have been an illegitimate child of the emperor.
・“Minister of the right, Abe-no‐Mimuraji“ is said “Abe-no‐Miushi“. Abe-no‐Miushi is the ancestor of “Abе no seimei“. “Abe‐no seimei“ was a legendary yin-yang teacher.
・"Major Counselor, Otomo‐no Miyuki" is said himself. Ancestor of “Otomo no yakamochi“.
・"State councilor, Ishi-no-Kami Marotari" is said "Ishi-no-Kami Maro“. "Ishi-no-Kami Maro“ later changed his name to "Mononobe‐no Ason“.
This is a social satire even if it is said that it is a long time ago now.

Those tasks that Kaguya gave the five nobleman are actually simple if you think out of the box.
Buddah's bowl = a bowl that looks old & ordinary with a gold like shine in it (like the Holy Grail).
Jeweled branches = Sakura/Cherry blossom branches (the "mysterious" island's greatest treasure is are the cherry blossoms).
Robe of a fire rat = A red fireproof robe with the Chinese emblem of The Rat from the Zodiac with the fire element.
Jewel from a dragon = a jasper stone (the another names for jasper is "bloodstone" and "dragon bloodstone" ).
Swallow cowrie shells = Cowrie shells that have colors like a swallow.
I’m a massive anime fan when you were naming off all the things needed for those tasks literally what came to my mind was a movie from one of my absolute favourite animes called inuyasha
sokka: My girlfriend turned into the moon
Zukko: That's harsh man
In Mexico, we have a similar history talking about the mountain , that is, it's about princess Iztlacihuatl and the warrior Popocatepetl, to let them get married the king gave them one condition, Popocatepetl must figth in a war, he won because duh, but a jealous suitor left the Battlefield and told everyone that Popocatepetl had dies, the princess was devastated, she refused to eat and died of a broken heart, so when Popocatepetl came back the dad was like: What the heck? Weren't you dead? Realizing they had been fooled they punished the suitor, but no punish could be enough for Popocatepetl to cure his broken heart, he took her to a land with a torch as his only companion and watched her dead body wishing she was just in a deep slumber, the gods felt pity for the young couple who were separeted before they should have, so over-nigth they turned them into a mountain and a Volcano, Iztlacihuatl lays there, you can see her silloutte, and Popocatepetl watches over her, and the torch he took is still on to this day.
"she grew up smoking hot, giving a 2 degree burn"

Imperishable Night explains.
・True love begins when nothing is looked for in return.
・Man discovers himself when he becomes to the obstacle.

Ah, Little Prince. A book not much thicker than a school notebook that primary school first-graders write in, yet a book containing so many wonders that the human mind cannot comprehend it, despite the fact that the book itself was written by a human.
5:09 i just had houseki no kuni flashbacks taking jewels...
Same
Well, Kaguya *_IS_* a Lunarian and she does apparently like jewels, so...
the first lunarian that appeared in houseki no kuni anime kinda looked like kaguya hime
“Hey, arent these tasks a bit um.... impossible?”
“Yeah.”
Some people believe that the story of Kaguyahime is about aliens because Kaguyahime grows up very fast and returns to the moon.
I think Kaguya's story was considered so interesting, she is the reference in several Mangas, Animes, and even video games. I own a Manga series called Sakura-Hime that takes place in an alternative timeline in which Kagura's granddaughter must literally turn into a superhero samurai to slay feral moon spirits that would feed on humans. They also claim that moon demons feed on humans and that the lineage of the moon princess would always cause the death of the rightful heir to the throne, so each princess is betrothed to said the heir to sustain the balance between the moon and earth. Also, Sailor Moon took slight inspiration from Greek Mythology in the naming of the love interest (whom I can't name on top of my head) and there's a Studio Gibibi movie adaptation of the legend which I really like. You should see it
