you know this was written from the perspective of a 45 yr. old housewive. right? so when you go from the third person (never mind gender at this tine) to the first for the chorus, not only does it not make sense, but the stunning part is that you are posessed of the hubris to change John Prine's lyrics.

Must of been a little tipsy when you wrote this 🤣🤣 should listen to it again if you have a programme on your pc/laptop that can isolate instrument's/vocals isolate the guitar an slow the tempo slightly you might get the story of the song...Sorry if I sound patronising don't mean to be
V1 she was a young woman, then in V2 when she was a young girl? So we're in third person but then we're in first person chorus? John Prine wrote it and performed it and other men such as Dave Matthews have performed it. Are you that insecure? The entire song is supposed to be in first person. First person in the perspective of an old woman. I am an old woman named after my mother. You have not done this classic Justice.
