  • We explain 4 alternate methods and explain settings for how to hook up a TV set top box to an AV surround sound home theater receiver. These methods can work for any cable tv set top box, satellite box or telephone company box such as Dish Network, DirecTV, Uverse, Xffinity, Cox Cable, Mediacom, etc.

    You have no idea how much you helped me!!!!! I can't believe how I was trying to do this now that i see the correct way (I would plug an HDMI Cord into the TV box and then to the back of the surround sound box and then wonder why the heck it wasn't working.....I didn't think that I would THEN have to connect a cord from the box to the back of the TV!!!!!) VERY DUH kinda moment from me.So thank you again so very much.

    Thanks for this video! We need to send tv audio to zone 2 on our new Denon AVR S960H HEOS receiver. The techs had it working when they left, but after I played music on HEOS and switched back to play tv audio thru zone 2, it’s now now working. 🤷‍♀️

      on dennon remote press zone 2 and select your source, try sat/cab or tv audio ....if you use HEOS mobile app, look for zone 2 or stop party mode (play on all speakers)

  • @chrisblanchard3882
    @chrisblanchard3882 Před 4 lety +1

    HDMI is the only way if you have up to date tv equipment etc. IMHO everything else is obsolete now that we have a minimum of 1080p or 4K. It’s just that it’s a constant bout of ongoing education when it comes to hooking up many video and audio components. Even experienced folks can become baffled at the different ways to hookup many types of units. And that it’s probably important to have a receiver that can pass through HD or 4K if you’re not wanting to just use the TV picture and sound only. I do and it becomes somewhat of a complex topic at times. But the technology has catapulted to new heights in the past 30 yrs. it’s mind boggling.

      @@hotguy1269 oh jeez, it’s been so long and I should know. I was so frustrated I ended up buying the Logitech harmony 665 remote (you can buy it but it’s discontinued) and programmed everything through it. Meaning I programmed Netflix as a favorite following the steps and I believe I selected my av receiver for audio. It seems archaic even back then having to connect the remote to your computer but works for me. I later learned that xfinity could have walked me through this whole thing with their remote (programming the A,B,C or D buttons). Lol! I’m good with my Logitech for now.

    I have an Xfinity set top box and when I watch cable TV I get sound out of my surround sound speakers without any issues using the HDMI cable connection method. I have a new Hisense U7 smart TV and when I want to watch Amazon Prime using my smart TV, the sound from my cable box never shuts off. I hear sound out of my surround sound speakers and I hear sound from my TV speakers for Amazon Prime Video movies at the same time. I've tried every setting on my Denon receiver and my TV and I can't figure out how to fix this issue.

    I can't seem to find the solution to the most basic issue here: I have xfinity/Mediacom on their "Tivo" settopbox and it is connected to my Yamaha receiver. I cannot get picture or audio unless (1) turn on the TV with the Mediacom remote and then (2) turn on the AV receiver to supply picture and sound. Why can't I get the remote to turn on all of the TV, Picture, and sound?

    What still confuses me is whether the data cable from your router goes into the cable box or the back of receiver. I'd think it's the latter because that is hub point of the system.
