Sana actively tries to improve her Korean even today. When she’s aware of a pronunciation mistake or when she finds a word she doesn’t know she’ll be fixing those pronunciation mistakes by next time and she’ll be using those words too.
Momo has improved her vocabulary a lot!!! But she’s not as careful with her pronunciation.. as most foreigners.
Like you said, it’s harder to have a native- like accent when you learn a language at an older age and both Sana and Momo started to learn Korean at 16. (Mina at 17 I think? And tzuyu 13)

Possibly also the fact that they had to practice speaking as soon as they got to Korea, and speaking too much early on reinforces some bad habits which could be avoided if there is a "silent period" of just gaining understanding and hearing the diff between all the sounds for example the double consonants. If you can't fully hear the difference it is very difficult to produce it yourself.

Sana's just a great speaker in general. She has that natural quick, fluid speech no matter the language and if you hear her speak in the Nizi Project finale she sounds like an actual professional Japanese MC/anchor. I looked up from my game I was playing to see if they hired some Japanese entertainer to MC the show but it was just her lol. So it's pretty great seeing her thrive in Korean. It's only going to continue to get better as her vocabulary and fluency catch up to her speaking ability. EDIT: idk if you cover it but before I forget, you're pulling clips from all over the last 5 years or so. I'm sure there's some obvious improvements in vocabulary and overall fluency in that time, so just keep that in mind in future analyses if you don't touch on it at some point.

There is an "ng" sound in Japanese - in fact there is only "ng" sounds at the end of words that don't end with a vowel because the only consonant that can be used without a vowel is the ん n which is pronounced ng (just like the korean 응)... Hi Billy,
after you do the Tzuyu and Mina video, I think you should do Dita and Léa, the Indonesian and Japanese members of new Rookie Of The Year girl group Secret Number.
They're both interesting cases because Dita is the very first Indonesian kpop girl group idol and Léa even though she's just debuted, is actually has been around the industry even longer than most Twice members. Dita's Korean has been improving by leaps and bounds lately and Léa's Korean has always been commented as really fluent by other people. I think a critique video for both of them would be really interesting.
    Thanks 🙏🏼

I'd recommend Renjun from NCT! As a Chinese member of the youngest subunit, he started learning Korean pretty young so he usually hears a lot of compliments that he speaks really well. I wonder what you would think! For most foreign idols that I personally follow, I can usually hear a small difference in accent but Renjun sounds pretty good.

If there is one thing I'd critique about Sana's Korean, it's that she tends to speak in a way that makes her words a little slurred-sounding, rather than clear and distinct. But this is the case only some of the time. All in all, she's probably the best Korean speaker out of all foreign idols. Yuqi might be a close second.

in some past clips sana has said she was motivated to learn korean fast because she's quite sociable and didn't like feeling left out/alone when she couldn't understand the other trainees. So it's probably true that she mainly learned through speaking and listening, rather than reading or doing textbook worksheets. She also recommended fans to learn through watching variety shows so i bet she probably learned through that too

I’m not surprised Sana speaks Korean really well. You can see how she worked really hard. When TWICE first debuted, she still tried her best to speak in Korean even though her Korean skills wasn’t as good as it is now. Because of how opened she was to making mistakes, her Korean skills really improved a lot.
And also, Sana is a really good active learner. She can easily pick up phrases when she listens to others communicating. E.g When Tzuyu communicates with her parents, she was able to pick up a few mandarin phrases just from hearing Tzuyu speak. And from a native Mandarin speaker perspective, she got her tone right, which is really difficult even for a Japanese or a Korean to get the tone right.
