Literally everyone in this comment section “admit that you were shocked that they were white” why would I be shocked when I saw the thumbnail! 😑 The most annoying thing is reading comments where people assume they know what I’m thinking! I said exactly what I was thinking in this reaction. It had nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with the voices! I grew up listening to Elvis so I know there are white people who sing with soul! The fact that some of you are making me out to seem racist is what’s wrong with the world today. Stop assuming and don’t put words into my mouth. Thanks.

stereotypes are just that-stereotypes. Men can “sound” like women, women can “sound” like men, it’s about styles that people gravitate toward culturally. People aren’t born with a voice based on their gender or ethnicity.
Hell, apparently people think heavy set people have different voices than slender people 🤷🏼‍♀️ There’s no science behind any of it.

To be fair, Elvis did cover the song in 1970, which gave it TONS of extra play, as all Elvis covers did. That said, the original version will never be surpassed, not even by The King himself. Elvis also covered Unchained Melody, so he clearly was a huge fan of the Righteous Brothers.

It was called "blue-eyed soul." Bill Medley's bass-baritone and Bobby Hatfield's contrasting tenor were to be rivaled. It melded so beautifully. The story in Medley's memoir is that they got the name from a group of black U.S. Marines who saw them perform in a club when they were still using the name The Paramours. One of the Marines said "That was righteous, brothers!" and when meeting they referred to them as "righteous brothers." They ended up adopting the name.

He performed the song under "The Righteous Brothers" name (since it was on an album and single by the duo) on "The Andy Williams Show" in 1965 on NBC. It was performed live (no lip-synching) with a backing orchestra. It is the greatest vocal performance ever broadcast in the history of American television.

“You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” was the most-played song of the century on American radio, getting over eight million spins.
It’s one of those all-time great opening lines: “You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips.” That line hints at growing darkness, a sense of encroaching doom. And throughout the song’s not-quite-four minutes, the whisper becomes a storm.

It's quite the history with this band.
The name "Righteous Brothers" was a name they adopted after a performance at a bar near MCAS El Toro. After the show, a young black Marine approached them and stated "that was Righteous, Brothers!"
    And it stuck.
I've also heard that they lost air play on certain stations when it was discovered they were caucasian singers. Although I am not sure of the validity.
This song, Unchained Melody, Time of My Life, Soul & Inspiration are just timeless classics.

In January 1976, the lead singer on this song Bill Medley's first wife Karen, by then remarried and named Karen Klaas, was raped and murdered by a stranger, and Medley decided to take time off from his music career to look after his 10-year-old son Darrin. The murder had not been solved and Medley employed a private investigator in an effort to track down the killer. On January 27, 2017, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced that investigators used a controversial DNA testing method to solve the decades-old murder. The sheriff's department said that the case "was solved through the use of familial DNA, which identified the killer," who was named as Kenneth Troyer, a sex offender and fugitive killed by police in 1982

Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.

Good Reaction --- Some people today are not aware of the fact that many of the Soul and R&B Singers cut some of their Biggest Hits at a place called Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The musicians were Session Musicians called the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. The band and all of the Recording Engineers were --- White.

Back in the day the Righteous Brothers, tenor Bobby Hatfield and baritone Bill Medley were dubbed Blue Eyed Soul by Blacks. I’ve seen dozen and dozen of first reactions of a Righteous Brothers song and see young Black people get blown away not only because of their incredibly amazing voices but that these are 2 white guys singing 😆 They actually got their name when after a performance a Black man yelled out “That was righteous brothers!” The duo took the name and ran with it!
