I'd be hard put to identify characters more original and unusual than Adam and Eve. Standard TV and Hollywood would have made them into shallow cliches and the butt of dismissive jokes because mainstream America would be uncomfortable with two such unusual people. That THEY emerged fully realized in Northern Exposure is possibly THE exemplification of the shows creative uniqueness overall.
