I know of a Chinese girl who makes ragi mudde and curd rice ( kannadiga style ) she learnt this from her malayalee MIL ( Syrian Christian woman ) who in turn learnt it from her Kannadiga Brahmin Relatives !! From Kerala to Karnataka to. New York now in Hongkong !
I learnt it from her but we take the easy way out - making it a a Ragi drink for breakfast ( made in milk and ghee ) . I have seen malayalees make puttu out of ragi flour
We love the drink . Easy to cook for breakfast and above all extremely filling.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you

It is great to see how you mention someone from whom you learned something otherwise people don’t like to give credit to others. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
She explains like a perfect teacher with the softness of a mother. I can just listen to her the whole day. So calm demeanor..my attention was more on the beautiful way she speaks.😊
Thank you! 😃
Happy to know that you lived in namma Bengaluru. Your humility to acknowledge that you learnt it from someone and giving credit to that person is great. Respect... 🙏🙏
Thank you so much 🙂

I am Gujarati lady and learnt about millets from listening to Dr Hedge. Until now all I ever ate was wheat flour. Thank you for this video.
Being a North Indian born n brought up in Mumbai, never saw anything like this dish☺ we are so much cought up into vadas, samosas, n other eateries that for us South Indian cousins are idli, rasam, sambar n menduvada!
It's like we were looking at south India through a small window from a distance; GITA's KITCHEN has opened a big door 🚪and now it's amazing to see such delicious tasty & healthy recipes 😋🥰😍
Thank you so much!🤩🙏🙏🙏
Vada dosa idly were eaten occasionally in olden days .. now it has become everyday breakfast... But ragi ball is like our everyday food.. we have so many variety of sambar to go with it ...
Even to day in my home morning my mom prepares ragi ball and sambar (not the sambar for idli, it's totally different )

Hello madam, I think I saw this Ragi ball making in a pan video one year ago. Since then we are fond of Ragi balls and almost daily we are preparing it. We like it so much madam. It is really delicious and healthy dish. Now Ragi balls are part of our regular main food at least one time a day. We are thankful to you for showing this simple method.
Wow mam. What gave me immense happiness is to see you cook your traditional (dare I say ) south-indian food while wearing a beautiful bandhani saree from Gujrat/ Rajasthan. That is the unity of India. I love my India.
I love ur traditional recepi s
Instead of learning receips , i started learning spoken english through listening👌👌👌
Keep it up
Lovely video. Brought back memories of this dish combo from 40+ years ago. Its on my todays lunch menu, Thank you ❤😊
Just a small trivia for people who are interested. Basiyodu is the kannada word for draining the water from cooked items like rice, dal, vegetables etc. So the original name for this saar is basidiro saar or drained water soup. Short form - bas-saar
Bassaru fantastic
Oh, That is interesting. Thanks for sharing. Good way to learn about OUR COUNTRY... & its amazing gems & colors
Yappa... Me being a Kannadiga , from a Gowda community in Bangalore where we cook this Bas-saaru a couple of times a week , had been wondering for 2 decades what this Bas-saaru name is all about 🙄🙄🙄🙄. 🙏 Thanks for the explanation.

Love this recipe! My memories of this dish is when I was 8 yrs old and my neighbor in Bangalore used to make this. Every once in a while when I stopped by her house she would invite me for a Ragi mudde dinner. It’s almost 24 yrs later I am seeing this recipe made. Will try this here in US.

Very nice way of making ragi mudde and basaru amma
Very nice healthy recipe you have taught I will try it thanks
Thank you for the wonderful recipe. Totally different topic but I wanted to say this. The media and film personalities promote so much vitriol between Karnataka and TN but in reality, the two states share so much in common. Some of my best friends are from Tamilnadu and we have nothing but respect for each other. Your comment about your experience in Karnataka was heart warming :)
I totally agree!
In our india, some or other states have this feature. At the end we all are indians.

Thank you mam i like this variety of food. Thanks for sharing god bless you.
Loved the way u smiled when cooker whistled!
😋
Amma, lovely video! You should have probably also had some of that mudde with the saar and palya yourself and shown it to us. As I believe, eating this dish also has some peculiar esthetics that not many of us would know about.
Yes even I would like to know that
Take a snall piece from mudde by hand, dip in bassaru and then eat. Some people just take the piece to mouth and gulp it. But little bit chewing will digest the mudde easily. No spoon please
Yes i first time saw this Ragi Mudda when i married to a telugu in bangalore... i even dont know how to eat this... when i chew it struck all over in my mouth but then my husband and sister in law laugh at me and show to swallow it.. but i am still not comfortable to eat like this 😊.. i rather prefer ragi roti its testy and fill like paratha☺☺
Thank you for the recipe
Delicious!
Thanks for sharing this video 🙏
Woh ragi mudhe my favorite 😍💕

Good afternoon Teacher, I keep seeing some of your videos, nice to see the traditional item of Karnataka.Farmers have a mudde (to be swallowed) at least with pickle if curry not available and get set to work in fields. Till 4 pm will not feel hungry..!!
"Basi" or basiyodu is decant in kannada, equivalent to "vadi kattu" in Tamil, hence got the name "bassaaru".
Thanks a lot for the update Sreenathji
Wow..will surely try it.
Lots of love from Karnataka ❤🙏

Just for information for whom ragi mudde is new, we pinch out a small ball (which u can swallow), dip it in the saaru and swallow it. Its usually not bitten.

Bring back my childhood memories thank you 🙏 ❤
