- Believe me, you really don't want to do this in Vegas....
Although Las Vegas is considered the funnest place on earth, in my opinion at least, there's a few things you need to know that you should not do in order to keep on having fun. I want to give you as many tips as possible about tourist traps, scams, rip-offs and other things you should avoid in Las Vegas. I'll be talking about what not to do on Las Vegas Blvd, what not to do in the hotels and casinos, and what not to do in the rooms. I want your Vegas Vacation to go as smooth and trouble free as possible, and I also don't want you getting arrested, so make sure you watch this. Hope you enjoy!

Here’s a great tip. Always use the elevators, never stairs. My girl and I recently went to Vegas for our anniversary. We made reservations at the Eiffel Tower restaurant. Amazing food, beautiful window seating, and fountain views. Everything was perfect and exactly as described in one of your previous videos. However, when it was time for us to leave, the elevator had a wait line. I figured, why not take the stairs? Didn’t have an “employee only” sign or “emergency exit” anywhere. The sign just said stairs. So I decided, hey why not? Worst idea ever. My experience went from beauty to horror within seconds. Stair way was completely covered in filth, garbage, and human excrement. We tried to turn back but the door shut and locked behind us. As we continued down what seemed like a never ending flight of stairs, the waste got worse. By the time we reached the bottom there was giant holes in the drywall. Clearly someone had broken through and was living within these walls. I’ve never felt so vulnerable. The biggest sense of relief came when we finally reached an actual exit. My girl just turned to me and said, “No more stairs please.” Needless to say, we waited for an elevator every time after that. As entertaining and glamorous that Vegas can be, there’s definitely a dark and filthy side to it. Stay safe and be careful out there.

That’s horrible and concerning that the condition of the stairwell and walls show someone unknown and unwell living there and hotel staff or security never discovered it. What a story and good tip. Glad you didn’t meet the person living there.
I've lived in Vegas for 27 years. I really wasnt expecting such GREAT information in this video! Im really impressed with the responsible perspective you took in every single point mentioned. You are spot on about everything. These are really good tips NOT TO DO in Vegas!
If I were you, I’d start taking the sheets off the bed and looking to see if there are any dark smudges in the mattress, or any furniture for that matter. Bed bugs are everywhere now especially In populated areas. I think they have becoming more of a problem the past few years. Having bed bugs is a complete and utter nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone

My #1 tip is DO NOT LEAVE MONEY IN YOUR ROOM - ANYWHERE, EVEN THE SAFE. I don't care if it's Bellagio or Circus Circus. If you have a thousand dollars, put it in your coat or pocket. Anyone with access to your room will steal, especially the maids. My first job as a youngster in Vegas was as a casino security guard. At least 5x a month a guest would scream and holler about money being stolen from their LOCKED rooms. In one case, the poor guy had $2000 in a back pocket in his jeans buried deep in his suitcase. Came back and it was gone. He was crying - a grown man - which tells me he wasn't making it up. Only the maid could have done this. When confronted, they say "I have no idea what your are talking about" and the hotel does nothing.

Best tip I'd give you , Any holiday you go on no matter the country buy a wireless hidden camera . This will protect your belongings etc from being stolen as you'll have video evidence.
Hidden cameras come in all shapes from pens , books and plugs . Higher priced ones will even email you when there's movement in your room giving you a live feed like a ring doorbell.
Then if you catch someone stealing double the value before reporting it . Then the hotel has to refund you 😏👌💯 As you're trusting strangers to clean your room with your ubderwear etc accessible. So a wireless camera is essential in these modern times . I always have 2 webcam ones in my room .

I was in Vegas this weekend and cash was stolen right out of my purse over $300. My purse is a crossbody so I must have moved it to my back while walking, sitting or standing. I didn’t even feel when my cash was taken right out of my purse. Be careful everyone & ladies make sure your purse is always in front of you at all times. Never out of your sight.
Keep purse and belongings in front of you when you go out. Better to see who attempts to steal you face to face than them doing it behind your back.

for me, I want to wear a fanny pack and have my camera slung on my shoulder.....but that problem is what if I end up shopping and buying stuff.....I wont have enough room in my pack to put it in!!! Thus.....backpack! but then, If someone wants my backpack, they will assault me by pulling my backpack and making me tumble......so I really dont know.

Yes, please be nice! I work on the Strip and we get attitude from guests quite a bit. If you give us attitude chances are you're going to get it back.
Another thing, do not wait till the last minute to go to an event or attraction. Many places will close up to 30 minutes early to get everything done.
The stip is not open 24/7. Most places will be closed by midnight. So please plan your day accordingly.
Do not be late for an appointment! This is very important as you can loose your spot. A lot of places will not offer a refund, especially third parties. Some places are more lenient than others but why risk it?🤷♀️
If you are out and about during the summer make sure to drink plenty of WATER. We have people passing out daily due to a combination of heat and alcohol consumption. Even if you don't drink the dry heat will get to you. Do not underestimate our summer months.

I've been going to Vegas since the early 1970s. It's changed so much. It was so clean back then, easy to walk the strip. Celebrities seen in the restaurants after the shows. I sat near Frank Sinatra in a restaurant a number of times. I was there when the Flamingo Hotel was digging up the 1940s swimming pool and police were everywhere when they discovered the bodies of people buried there before the pool was put in. Now it's just too big and busy.
Big, busy and they discover less and less bodies when they dig in Vegas...that pretty much sums it up
Great stuff. A couple of other things not to do. Do not forget to tip your servers, the hotel housekeepers, your card dealers...basically anyone who helps you enjoy your stay. Also, do not blow your budget on the first day. If you are on a losing streak on day 1, stop gambling and walk around and enjoy the sights for the rest of the day. Hopefully your luck will change on the next day.
I often leave a tip for the hotel housekeepers. They work hard with few rewards and deserve a little extra.

I did the whole strip walk once. I walked from Mandalay Bay to the Strat AND entered every casino and most other buildings along the way. My step counter read 11.5 miles at the end. I WAS planning to walk downtown after that, but Ubered instead. I was beat. This was a "lets see if I can do it" thing, not a walk made out of ignorance of the distance. I knew what I was getting myself into.

LOL, I did the same thing years ago. I was 21, did a lot of track and thought I can walk the whole strip, no problem. Its not the distance that kills the feet as much as the weaving, stopping, and avoiding the vast wave of people not looking where they are walking.

@@photomanwilliams4147 Very true. I was 49 at the time, never did track, (running is for prey...) and yeah... It hurt. I expect it after a few days in Vegas.
I never did the whole strip walk, but i did walk from Mirage to Mandalay and that was a long walk.

I talked to a traffic policeman. He told me of high percentage of pedestrian-traffic deaths are on the strip. It is the deadliest 2 miles of pavement for pedestrians in the state. The penalties are ridiculously high. If you go to court, don't expect the judge to cut you any slack for being a tourist who jaywalked.

When going to restaurants or bars that directly face the strip (and some Strip hotels) ALWAYS read the fine print at the bottom of the menu. Many of these places now have extra fees they will try to add to your final tab, such as "water fee" ""convenience fee," or mandatory tipping charges regardless of the size of your party. Speaker to a server or manager, and ask that those charges will be taken off BEFORE you order. Scrutinize your final tab, to make sure there aren't any extra or hidden charges. Better yet, avoid places that add shady add-on charges!

It seems to be getting more common for the strip facing restaurants/bars to add on hidden/extra fees on everything and it seems to be more targeted to out-of-state travelers.

Great information! We’ve also found that for a weekend trip to Vegas sometimes a Saturday through Monday is nice if you can swing it. The airports and casinos are not as crowded Saturday and Monday as they are Fridays and Sundays, and Monday is often a relatively quiet day between vacationers who leave Sunday and convention attendees arriving on Tuesday
I would add don't stop at a retail kiosk when a friendly sales person invites you to try their product. I made the mistake of doing that once. A very sweet sales lady asked me to try the skin product she was selling. She applied the product and was buttering me up with flattery. I thought she might offer a product for 30-50 dollars, but then quoted me $200 plus dollars. When I politely declined she went ballistic on me telling me how I had wasted her time, etc. Even the other sales lady looked at her as if she had gone off the deep end. My encounter was probably out of the norm, but unless you absolutely know you want the product, I'd say always decline and keep walking.
I have experienced this as well and now I will not even make eye contact with these vultures

This happened to me at the Ventian. They looked so offended and started talking in their language when I declined. This will NEVER happen to me again.

I grew up in Vegas, lived there for 30 years. We recently moved to the Midwest.
This is a great video, great tips. I'm a new subscriber now, love your channel. It is so accurate how alot of people don't realize how far it truly is to walk on the strip or how quickly you can end up in a sketchy part of town.
Vegas is definitely it's own breed of town, so much to see and do. Now I'm feeling homesick 😔
how do you deal with the midwest weather- humidity, winters etc?
@@generfeld its simple :) have lived in michigan all my life,, just like any other area you adjust to the climate changes, just like us going to Vegas when its 115 in aug but not humid, :) we might hit 90+ but the humidity is close to 100% feels like breathing thru a wet mop LOL ,, snow can be a pain but you can build snow men and make snow angels in the yard,, We all adapt ,, in fall the Change of the Foliage is beautiful ,, :) and like in most places it rains in the spring and fall

As a local from Vegas, I was curious to see what you were going to say. Your points were SPOT ON! The other day I was poping by the Caeser's Palace and I had to wait quite a while on a GREEN LIGHT to turn because people were illegally crossing the street and just wouldn't stop!
The only other thing I would have added to your list is to STAY AWAY from anyone in a mascot costume, like Mickey and friends. Most of the time they charge you but are otherwise safe, however, there have been many cases of people getting followed or *various crimes* happening to them after dark by those same mascot people. So just be cautious of those!
Thank you for warning people about the sketchy are between the strip and Freemont Street! Everybody kept trying to tell my wife and I that it was too far to walk, but we both love a good hike so that didn't stop us and we lived to regret it. If anybody had instead warned us that it wasn't the safest neighborhood to wander into we would have hopped on the bus or into a cab instead.
My nephew and I walked from the Strat to Downtown Vegas. Even stopped in at the notorious dive bar Dino's for a few drinks. We got to downtown without anything happening. Barely even saw anybody. It was not even close to scary. ''Sketchy'' is kind of vague. Miserable motels and cheap strip joints and boarded up businesses. I guess that would be sketchy. You say ''lived to regret it.'' What (if anything) happened? I hope you didn't get mugged!
A cab ride would’ve been the ideal scenario, ur safe around the strip but there’s some sketchy areas around Fremont that u should definitely avoid. Sorry u had a bad experience
@Jeffrey Ellsworth Retired Vegas cop told me to avoid. Take a bus or cab. I've walked it in the day a few times, nothing ever happens. It's seedy. I wouldn't recommend a solo journey to a woman. Not even during the day.
My girlfriend and I did walk at night from the Strat to Frankie’s Tiki room which is on the other side of the highway and a good distance away and didn’t have any problems. Yes it is slightly sketchy but if you stay aware you’re all good. I’m born and raised in NYC and still live here so we’re always on a alert for problems. You should always be alert no matter where you are. That being said, I’ll be back in Vegas in about 3 weeks for some fun and debauchery
Have done the walk many times. Never an issue. It does get darker, but they have been working on putting in new stuff. Plus how else would you know that there is a Hostel. Charges more than some of the hotels sometimes.

YES! Thank you for telling people about not Jaywalking. People are constantly walking against the light without looking to see if cars are coming. Then they get mad at you if you have the audacity to honk at them to let them know you’re coming. The law doesn’t protect jaywalkers if they get hit.

Beware of street performers working with pickpocket people. Took a photo once noticed they took extra time, a day later noticed a person right behind me invading my personal space. didn’t have anything on me at the moment.

..actually some good advice here.. also, if you move bottles in your fridge they are electronically monitered.. this happened to us.. we put dinner leftovers in the fridge and moved stuff in the fridge.. when checking out they claimed we used it.. we did not..I told them to go check.. but they finally agreed with us..!!! we had no idea.. big brother is watching..!!!.
As a person who has worked in the travel industry the better part of the last 30 years the advise about the 3rd parties is spot on a lot of times the hotel will be able to at worst match the 3rd party rate or amenities and you can get better service thru the hotel

I live in Phoenix and have visited Vegas numerous times over the years. All good points in your video. Here are a few more. Do not bring attention to yourself if you are winning while gambling (keep your winnings and don't get robbed afterwards). Do not disturb your fellow gamblers with your rambunctious actions (no one wants to hear you screaming about how you "almost" won that bet). Do not trash your hotel room (why da fuq you delaying my arrival time while housekeeping is cleaning up your mess). Do not prolong an argument with the pit boss/restaurant manager/front desk... you are not entitled... Vegas is a smooth running machine and will do just fine without you. Simple inquiry, sure... they'll fix it... but, don't drag things out to the point of being obnoxious. Do not skip-out on tipping your rideshare app driver. They are saving you time, and wear and tear on yourself from walking. Okay, I'm an older guy, and this one may be controversial.... do not bring a stroller to the casino floor. I remember "Sin City" how it used to be. High class and high stakes. Booze and $2.99 steak and eggs. Now, since Vegas has gone "family friendly", where families don't gamble or drink, all of the room rates/drink prices/food prices/hotel use fees... have gone through the roof. Bring back sin city where all the money was made off of gambling and everything else was cheap. Bring back Lady Luck! What kind of vacation are you showing your toddler in a stroller at 9pm while you're bombed trying to walk through the casino floor? I digress... and the last don't; Do not skip missing a trip to Vegas. It's everything you want it to be and everything you're afraid it will be. Just go there and have a blast. Peace! Pete in AZ.

- There is ONE Bank of America ATM on the Strip. It's located inside the M&M store. It's on the 4th floor and is only available during the stores business hours.
- Those using passports should keep a clear copy of the main page of your passport in the room safe. If your passport be lost or stolen, the copy should help expedite getting a temp passport from their home country US embassy or consulate. Another option is to take a clear photo of the main passport page and keep it somewhere online that is secure from where you can download it.

This is great advice Norma! I’m in Canada and on our last trip to Vegas my wife and I would buy our drinks and snacks from a store on Tropicana near a restaurant called Coco’s. Everything was affordable able and the staff were awesome

The so-called strip performers should be either banned completely or required to show a price list. Tourists coming from all over the world would not know that a random person wandering a street dressed in eccentric outfits requires a fee for a picture.
Yep. The only street performers that are remotely worth looking at might be on Fremont Street in the reserved spaces. Otherwise, you're only there as a potential victim.

Yeah, my wife and I went on vacation in 2020 and I talked her in to going to Vegas cause I’m a raiders fan and wanted to see the new stadium. We went for a walk by the fountain and Two girls dressed like show girls caught my wife’s eye and she was telling them how cute they looked and all I heard was you want a picture and my wife said yeah, so we took pictures and the girl was like ok that 25$ each and all I had was 20$ bills , so them two got 40$ each and my wife was like why you give so much and I was like you think she’s going to make change ? My next picture was me hiding behind my wife taking a picture of the two sexy cop lady’s with out them knowing. Later we came across a guy dressed like a gladiator, now this guy crossed the line and was talking to my wife nasty didn’t think that was cool.

Hi Norma! Love your videos! I live in Vegas too! Don't forget to remind them that their is a dress code in a lot of these places like restaurant's, cocktail lounges or clubs. My friends come visit and go out with a baseball cap and tennis shoes and ripped jeans and cant get in because they are not dressed well. mostly the guys. You must dress nice! Just letting you all know!
as my boss and others tell me "you wanna find a gf or meet a gal who may end up being interested in you? wear shoes and socks, jeans or pants with NO rips....wear a polo shirt and shave and comb your hair......."

Plan but don't overplan. Same as there's folks who tell you how to get round Disney and make the most of your time - that's their view, walking at their pace on a perfect day but for some it could almost turn a vacation into a para-military training camp.
Vegas has so much to see, and you're likely to encounter unexpected things along the way so with the flow. Unlike Disney, your time there is free - apart from what you choose to spend your $$ on - you're not on the clock from the minute you open the hotel door.

We’re going for 6 nights and I’m allowing myself to make just 2 dinner reservations and 1 breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi. Also got tickets to the Rod Stewart concert one night. The rest we’ll just walk around go where looks good 🙂

The "Don't wander too far off" rule is on point. I wander off a few times and the area off the path is grimy as hell. Back in 2019, I stayed at Las Vegas Hotel off of Downtown Fremont. It was not too far from the Benny Siegel Suites. Anywhere near the Benny Siegel Suites is a questionable neighborhood.
I'm assuming you are talking about El Cortez. Yes, the walk from El Cortez to the main Fremont Street Experience is one of peril. I'm a big boy, it doesn't bother me much, but an old couple or something? Yes, the odds are good you will be accosted.

I stayed at the Venetian in 2017 and at 3am someone was knocking down our suite door for a good 20 minutes. We literally had to call the security. I definitely felt victim to the street performers on my first trip and got tricked by the weather 😂😂. We just opened the mini bar and was charged even those we didn’t eat/drink anything

Another thing to be aware of is some places will charge you if you store your own drinks or food in the room fridge. I just leave my bottles of water in a drawer or the closet and use ice from the machine rather than risk an outrageous charge just to use the room fridge.

I average over 10,000 steps per day when I'm in Vegas. Downtown is the only place you can really walk everywhere.
Thanks for sharing these great tips. We're relatively new locals and still have a lot to learn about the Strip. But as a local driver, I can't agree more with the one about jaywalking. DON'T do it, there's always news stories here about pedestrians getting killed. 🙁

Another don’t, if you want something “good” that’s “legal”. Don’t buy it on the strip, it’s not the real deal.
By law you can’t purchase the “good stuff” anywhere near a casino.
Can you smoke those is smoking hotel rooms or will you get charged a fee?
@@sunnyjones9615 No, you can't smoke anything inside the hotel room. I recently stayed at the MGM Grand. It's supposedly ilegal to smoke p-t in public spaces too, but anyway there's people smoking around, there wasn't much control about it.
What does smoking hotel room mean then?
If you’re going to walk (I always did) be absolutely sure to wear comfortable, broken in shoes (which I haven’t done before; ouch!)
As for the ATMs, definitely DO NOT use the ones in the resorts. I would use mine in a CVS or Walgreens; which are about as common as Starbucks are in most other cities. If you do have to use a resort’s ATM, pay very close attention to the service fee.
Weather-wise? Yeah, it can be all over the place, it can also both be hotter than you’re expecting and colder than you’re expecting in the same day. Wear layers. A loose long sleeve shirt over a T-shirt at night can ward off nighttime chills and light breezes and you can always tie it around your waist or over your shoulders if it’s too warm to wear. And something Norma didn’t mention: especially in summer, don’t forget your sunblock! Especially if you’re out and about during daylight hours.

I wish you had done this vlog before I went to Vegas for the first time with my daughter for my birthday 01/24 in which I did take a couple of photos with Vegas showgirls not knowing that I would be charged $40 but they settled for 30
Another fun video Norma. All great info for first time visitors to our city. Since I think most people want to walk all over, I will advise my friends to take long walks to get in shape. It helps. Also, if you are passing a time share intensive area, I found that they are interested in couples as opposed to singles so maybe a quick split up if you are with someone. Just a couple of thoughts. 😀

Do not bring you wife to Vegas because she will force you to follow her in a shopping\spending spree. I was following my wife everyday visiting stores, shopping malls, boutiques for about 20-30 miles per day and she never got tired of the shopping. Every store she visited she got more energy to explore. At the end I was exhausted, physically, mentally and financially each time I go there with her.
Here’s an idea.. maybe compromise? Is that literally not what marriage is about??
She wants to shop, let her shop. And then you do something YOU want.
Just remember if on the strip and a cop asks you to move along, do it
Don't kick pigeons or Jay walk either
Or you'll spend a night in jail
