I said when we were down there that I was surprised that we were allowed access to it. Fortunately it wasn't slippy but did require a bit of ducking down and squeezing through tight spaces. Very fortunate to be able to enjoy it 😊
interested to see the memorial to Tom Morris - he employed some of my Foulis ancestors before they all emigrated to U.S. to play and design golf courses there

Not sure about the mine part.. maybe a bit tall at 6ft 1in ..lol Elcho castle was very interesting, even got there before the guy that works there (wondered why a taxi was following us).... he let us in after he opened the castle and we paid on way out. A very informative guy, thinking of huntingtower castle,blackness castle and dirleton castle to end 2019 , weather dependent of course

Very interesting explore, Kim! Had me wondering why there was a mine in a castle! Ahhh...it was a tunnel dug by besiegers in an attempt to collapse the tower! How cool. I'll keep that in mind for my next seige!
Sorry should have explained that bit. The big mine was dug by outsiders during a seige and the countermine was dug by those living in the castle to meet the invaders in order to stop their seige. Its an interesting story but I don't feel it can truly be felt until you're there for yourself. 😊
Wonderful. I love St Andrews, and recommend it as a must for anyone visiting Scotland. I was not so intrepid as you, Kim, to actually go down into the mine, but maybe on a future visit! There are excellent opportunities for your photography should you return to St Andrews. The sea and beech are quite beautiful. I made a very short video on my pocket Nikon last year, which I've uploaded onto CZcams-not great quality, but capturing a dramatic moment. On a very stormy day, the winds were driving the sands horizontally sweeping them out to sea and pushing back the waves. Above the white of the repelled surf, there were fleeting rainbow colours, as the sun shone brightly on the spray. I titled the video "Canute Cannot", as it reminded me of the legendary story of King Canute, or Knut, demonstrating to his sycophants that he could not command the waves to go back. I saw the wind doing just that.
It certainly is a stunning place. I've yet to check out the beach myself but sounds like you had a stunning time with the camera when you were there. It definitely does have some good photography opportunities 😊
Wouldn't the mighty St Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall, Orkney, be the oldest cathedral in Scotland? It was begun in 1137. What's more, it's very much intact (with an excellent Willis pipe organ in place). Any thoughts, Kim?
You're correct - I said oldest by mistake. Meant to say largest (I put some words over the video during that part to try and correct my mistake...sorry if you missed them/I didn't make it obvious). I hope to visit the one in Orkney next year. It looks stunning! 😊

Really good Kim, your choice of music was great, everything so old ! My country wasn't formed until 1776 and my state 1863 so all is pretty new.
