On a serious note: pls dont ever use "ignoring your kids" as an actual method for disciplining them. They _will_ grow up with problems.
You want Borderline Personality Disorder cuz this is how you get Borderline Personality Disorder.
The amount of people who don't realise you can talk to your children is frightening
ANEERZA IMIA if the child is inappropriately trying to gain your attention with property destruction, aggression, and tantrum behaviors, it’s totally fine to ignore them in some cases. I act out to get attention, and I get attention, then why would I do anything else? It’s effective. Kids are so smart, they’re going to default to what works. You’re right that this shouldn’t be punishment though. Punishment should be a last resort.
Haley Houser but kids are humans who are capable of language and rational discussion. and they’re smart, not conniving. you could always discuss why they shouldn’t break things & why they can’t have attention 24/7.
Griffin Wetzel some exactly. You discuss with your kids how to appropriate gain attention. And depending on age, some kids might be able to rationally discuss, but in the thralls of life, and all the trials and maybe just bad days, don’t we all sometimes default to behaviors that sometimes aren’t appropriate?
“I COULD FALL! LET’S TALK ABOUT THAT!” Nasim is so brilliantly funny.
Good mythical morning who ?

If Nasim broke character for even a moment this sketch would have been ruined. Instead, she maintains it perfectly. What a pro.
If only SNL's regular actors could be such pros...
I don't understand why people don't like it when they break
I feel when one of the great actors break. It's amazing. When Will Ferrel would break character, it was once in a great while, but actors like Jimmy Fallon that break all the time is not fun. It ruins the setting and the experience of the set. The job of the actor is to bring the audience into the world. When they break, it takes them out that world.
B. Lonewolf some of the biggest laughs the show gets is when regulars break character. Kate McKinnon is a pro at staying in character so far from what I've seen.
AdventureWithArielle only if they're in an over the top character. If they're just in a supporting characters it doesn't.
By not giving her the power he gave her the power to do whatever she wanted
Blake Orr Oh crap that's a good point
not really its just obvious
That's not really true, considering the whole thing was a test devised by the two of them to see how strong Elaine's will was...and she failed.
Joey the Sheetposter yes she's a fool.
Blake Orr she only did all those things to gain attention....
I feel like your parenting style isn’t really paying off 😭😭😂

Shay You got that right.
By acknowledging the hilarious terror, you give her the power.
Haha hilariously terrifying & terrifyingly hilarious
I don't approve of this child raising method in general, but some kids should definitely be ignored.
@gabe ortiz But that's only because their parents made them think the world DOES revolve around them. It's the parent's fault anyway.
My brother in law is a child psychologist and this is basically his parenting style but with even less attention and more playing golf.
addy kelly is he happy in life? :)
Of course he is.
addy kelly I’m to decide in six months between psychiatry or family practice and isn’t psychiatry dark?
I don't know the difference in the US (where my brother in law lives) because I live in the UK. In the UK family practice is more counselling and therapy and psychiatry allows you to medicate. My brother in law works for the school systems and he deals with a lot of dark issues involving abuse, murder and drugs so I think they are both pretty dark but psychiatry is more specialised in its treatments. Not much help, sorry. Good luck though. A really worthwhile profession.
addy kelly thank you so much 😊
I really like how Vanessa and Nasim completely transform with every role they play. They're extremely talented actors.

As a psych major, I find this absolutely hilarious, but I urge you guys to not think that this is how behavior modification works 😭
Enlighten us then please! ^_^
You'll find psychology professors in grad school who profess(ha!) to parent exactly like this. Although they'll add that they give more instruction on proper behaviors. Blah blah blah
How does it work then?
@@elizrebezilmadommdo1662 there's various ways to alter behaviour which is basically just response to stimuli. Basically look up social cognition theory and understand schema. So anyway behaviour is reinforced by giving the desired outcome. Behaviour can be altered or extinguished by depriving of said outcome such as their desire for attention. Obviously since we have to account for individual difference, and please note that the brain constantly goes through complicated cognitive processes and does not function exactly the same way, there are cultural and socio related factors that influence human cognition and behaviour. Just keep in mind that psychology is a relatively new science. The so called "hard" sciences such as physics, biology, chemistry have been studied and going on far longer. To be honest if you're going to parent based on psychological principles it'd be beneficial to your kid if you take up some courses about education.
My feelings exactly!! My inner psych major is screaming.

The little girl cry was actually damn accurate
This is honestly upsettingly accurate in a lot of places. Especially rich households, but my dad tried a “Dog Whisperer” strategy with raising kids, too. People have to realize that kids are real and aren’t acting out because they “don’t see their father as dominant” or some bs like that.
That said, the acting in this was REALLY good, and it was hilarious. Definitely a fitting backstory for Shallon.
Yeah, this is my problem with psychologists, they treat people like science experiments or lab rats and not like actual people. This sketch is so disturbing

really bad dates with kids..… my mum brought her date home to meet me and my brother when I was 10 and he was 4. we hid behind the sofa for a while then I came out and told him he had hair up his nose and in his ears. my mum was so embarrassed but he didn't run. 20 years later I consider him my dad as does my brother. my dad told us about when his mum went on a date when he was about 12 he sat on the stairs and when the date turned up shouted urgh you're not going with him!
But at least divorce has no bad effects on children.
@@blakes5827 dude yes it does
@@danim1245 not always
@@priscillajimenez27 Yes, always. Divorces are usually a pretty ugly situation, especially leading up to said divorce. Massive fights, bickering, arguing, or worse. This affects kids quite intensely. I haven't seen a child go through one and not be scarred in some way. Seeing the only two people you truly look up to fight and separate is very traumatizing. There is no expert worth their degree that would say otherwise. My fiance's parents went through a horrible divorce when he was a kid. It was really hard on him, but the abuse added to the whole mixture of hell. Whomever told you that divorces don't always cause children trauma is sorely mistaken and needs to do some research on the matter before spreading those lies.
@@MidnightSonnet I think they may mean that sometimes divorce is better for the child in the long run, thus the pros outweighing the cons, but that may be wishful thinking.
