Dokken is one of the most melodic and talented bands to come from the 80s metal scene. Dokken was one of my favorite bands growing up and have seen them more times than I can count. Don Dokken's vocals really struck Alexis as soft but powerful. She also loved Georges solo and custom guitars. Watching someone react the first time seeing Dokken and their talent is too much fun.

Not sure if it was because the show was in a inner city area, with a lack of love of rock and roll, or if it was because of poor promotion. They were pretty big at the time. George Lynch competed with Randy Rhoads for the Ozzy gig originally. When Randy won the gig he asked George to take over teaching his students at Musonia, Randy’s moms school. George taught there for a while and would sell guitars to students that he built with parts from charvel that charvel was tossing out.
When Randy died in the plane crash, George won the Ozzy gig after Brad Gillis went back to Night Ranger. George was on tour with Ozzy for two weeks before Ozzy let him go in favor of Jake E Lee. George rejoined Dokken with great success and later formed Lynch Mob with Mick Brown.

Dokken is *the* Band. They're the group that got me into hard rock. I saw them headline at Irvine Meadows with Great White opening. Then at Monsters of Rock - which was a nightmare because of the arrogant Metallica fans who constantly talked shit. (Ironically, I just found out the Kirk spent all his time backstage hanging with George) I saw them lots of times in their prime, we were even there in the audience when they did the acoustic "One Live Night" performance in Redondo Beach.
Years later I used to go out to see Jeff Pilson's solo acoustic band "Better Mousetrap" and we became friends, right about the time the group reformed for "Dysfunctional." Eventually, my wife and I used to hang out at Jeff's house and take care of their dog. We met the whole band, and hung out with them while they were recording "Shadowlife" which was where the label was trying to push them into being an Alternative/Grunge group. Don resisted. He owned the original Dokken logo and wouldn't let them use it. We got to see some of the bad energy between Don and George and brother was it UGLY. Eventually, my wife was running their official fan club and our best friend Kirsten Denoyelis was running their web site. After George left again we got to know Reb, who we had met when he was with Alice Cooper when they played with Dokken at the Alladin hotel in Vegas.
About that time we moved to Sacramento and lost touch with everyone, but Don sold us a car that had used to belong to his brother and had been driven by John Norum.

Wow 15 times? I saw them probably around 4 times. They were great back then. They had a way of dialing in their so that it was very clear and large sounding in the little arenas they played. But I also saw them at the enormo-dome and they sounded great there too.

My favorites were Dokken, Queensryche, Skid Row, Dream Theater, Saxon, Priest, Sabbath, Maiden, White Snake and others.
You're my brand of rocker and rock enthusiast. I could write journals on my impressions of Dokken and my experiences with them. Great experience with Don. He was with Mikkey Dee whom he recruited for the Ashes solo album, which was another true gem in it's own right.
But I have all Dokken and Lynch material ever circulated. I played guitar in the 80s.

What a great band and song, Dokken's always been so good. I saw a comment on the thread here calling Dokken the most under rated rock band, but another great under rated rock band would be Thunder - and their song Dirty Love would be a great starting point

Hey! A new guest this time !? 👀
I also love Dokken. I really wish they had been bigger. A pity that just when they started headlining shows ( circa "Back For The Attack") ...band disbanded. One particular feature that I really like within the band's signature sound is the perfect blend of more of an european Metal perfectly merged with american, melodic, 80's hard rock/heavy metal. Lynch's punchy, sharp, electrifying riffs were unparalleled. The beef that existed between George and Don, throughout their career, was properly reverted and condensed into one of the premier and finest bands of that style of that era.

Dokken’s Alone Again, Vandenberg Burning Heart, Warrant I Saw Red, Winger, Heaven. scorpions, Still Loving You, & even Kiss, I Still Love You. So many power ballads from that era! But I am waiting desperately for Wasted Time!

The debut of the J Frog Skull n Bones guitar. ESP reps told him that he couldn't use it in the video unless an ESP decal was added to the headstock. That's why both logos appear. Ed Roman guitars sells the Skull n Bones with the J Frog logo.

They filmed in slow mo then speeded (sic?) the audio to normal-if not, they'd have busted their asses falling and instruments getting damaged. Even the crowd was asked to move slower. This track is classic;their best album imo
