In 1986, Birkenhead band Half Man Half Biscuit - punk ethic purveyors of satire, social commentary, parody and angst - released their debut single, "The Trumpton Riots". On the B-side was the now legendary track, "All I want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague away kit": the finest study of adolescent obsession, frustration, rivalry, violence and table football ever to grace the wrong side of a bit of vinyl.

I was the drummer for jegsy dodd and the sons of harry cross,and we supported these guys on tour.I was always in the crowd when they took to the stage,fuckin great days.

Discovered this *years* before I had access to internet or English football in South Carolina. Heard them on Peel's show on the World Service, and found it at a funky local indy record shop. Remember pestering an exchange student from Liverpool crapless translating it ;-) Now that 87% of my leisure time revolves around following a bunch of lads bashing a ball about a hectacre of England's green and pleasant, it's *still* brilliant... COYB...

22 years on, and scalextric still takes forever to set up, and subbuteo is still better than all the crappy ones you can by now XD
I don't think it is student humour. I think it's quite working class. Nigel Blackwell is far from a student type.
Student humour?? Do students actually know anything about this band? Don't insult one of the best bands ever, they've been around a long time and deserve respect.

I heard this in a 2nd hand record store in Norwich cos my mate wanted to hear it & the store owner picked the wrong side (he wanted to hear Trumpton Riots).I was almost choking with laughing & said to my pal I'd buy if he wasn't bothered (I still own some Scalextric &a load of Subbuteo)

Dukla's change kit is yellow with a maroon trim (like Motherwell in Scotland)

I suffered scaletrix angst issues , the transformer was a hit and miss and it cost a lot in relation to the rest of the setup ... also spending hours pushing the control button thing and changing the cars tracks to see if your car went faster on the left or right ....

I remember Subbuteo (then under 'Waddingtons', wanted to aline &/£ cash-in on this song - well, as part of their 'marketing', but they understood a bit more of its meaning, and weren't so keen!) - allegedly.

Not really a song about footy for me. More the unrequited frustration of 70s childhood toys. Scalextric and Subbuteto, always broke. Most of my players were glued to the base by UHU. And has anybody ever played Monopoly to a proper completion ?
