    Hello. I've been a book collector all my life and though in the past I have appreciated "pretty" books its just recently that I've really begun to collect a few books initially at least because of their design. Living in Canada we get the North American editions of books which tend to be rather ... um .... pedestrian at times. (Dull!!!). Thanks to the magic of Book Tube however I am now aware of the often incredible and beautiful editions of books that I want to add to my library in all their glorious magnificence. I know we're not suppose to judge a book by its cover ... or endpapers ... or spine ... or the map inside .... or it's illustrations .... ahem! .... but ... So now I've broadened my horizons and diminished my bank account even further just to add the "pretties" to my shelves when I can. I'm really enjoying your channel here and it's given me an intro to books that I might not have otherwise known about. In short ... I'm here drooling on my keyboard!!! Dare I ask for a view of your entire collection of books sometime just because I love seeing other peoples libraries?? Libraries = happy place. Thanks for sharing your treasures and all the research this must entail. Cheers!

      crazee4books Thanks for taking the time to write such a lovely comment. 💕 I love book design - and I consider many of my books as mini works of art (for some reason ‘art collector’ is considered more respectable than ‘book hoarder’, but I can also *use* my art, ha). I switch between US and UK editions all the time - it’s crazy how different the quality can be, but there is no option that is consistently better really. I’ve toyed with the idea of doing a library tour, but I have a LOT of books (anyone fancy a 24 hour library tour video? Anyone? No?) so I have to figure out how I could make that work! 😀

    Amazing video as always! Can you do a video about beautiful books inside and out? Like books which in your opinion are both five stars reads + beautifully designed??

    • @BeautifulBooks
      @BeautifulBooks  Před 5 lety +2

      kristina milovic Ah, good question. Honestly, I rarely buy or make videos about books that I think are less than four stars, so typically if I’m making a video about it, I think it’s pretty good. I was thinking about making a video of some of the nicest editions of my favourite classics though - and they are all pretty amazing reads - would that help?

    How do you find specific editions of books? I searched for that Chalk Man edition on ebay using the isbn, but the sellers just use stock photos so can't see if it's the one with the page edges or not

    • @BeautifulBooks
      @BeautifulBooks  Před 5 lety +2

      If you can find the editions with isbns I usually give links in the description box, but unfortunately Chalk Man is one of those where a limited number with the sprayed edges was printed for Waterstones (about 1000 copies) and as they sold out they were replaced with normal copies, but same isbn. So once the sprayed edge copies go out of print, you are stuck looking for one second-hand that includes the information in the description, e.g. via Abes. (There's one there at the moment if you're interested: bit.ly/Chalked ) It's a treasure hunt, really - good luck!

    This is such a lovely unique video. I want that Wayward Son so badly I'm angry I saw this video only now. I've considered buying a hardcover with that specific cover online but how do I guarantee it will have the endpapers and the inside cover art? Especially since I have copies of the reimagined classic series and only the OZ one actually has designs on the sides instead of just color. I had no idea what I was missing.Also I second books bringing back gauffering into fashion. That was such a beautiful fad.

    • @BeautifulBooks
      @BeautifulBooks  Před 4 lety

      JustAPrayer Thanks for your kind words 💕 Unfortunately the sprayed edge for that edition of Wayward Son was a Waterstones limited edition (although not too limited, there are used copies floating around), but the undercover dust jacket art should be on all the hardbacks with this cover, at least first editions. It’s the same thing for the reimagined classics - the first editions all had the fancy sprayed edge designs but later on they replaced with plain sprays, or no spray at all.

    • @JustAPrayer
      @JustAPrayer Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for responding, as a fellow book nerd I love your videos! That makes sense about the reimagined classics, too bad. I'm still happy I have them as is though. Really still love the sprayed edges for Wayward Son though, if you ever spot a used copy floating around with those edges, drop me a message, I'd buy it immediately.
