Tutorial: Microcosm and Chroma Console with Guitar

- In this video, we hook up a guitar to Chroma Console and Microcosm to create a pretty otherworldly signal chain.
On Chroma Console, we put Swell at the end of the chain, which effectively creates a gate for all of the effects preceding it when no signal is traveling through the pedal. This, paired with Pitch, Space, and Cassette create a really unique sound before feeding the signal into Microcosm.
Microcosm's Arp D effect then latches onto the most recent sample/note and applies some rhythmic pitch-shifting and sample reduction, making it sound more like a synthesizer than a guitar.

I don’t regret buying these rigs. The sonics from them is amazing.
thanks!
Wonderful video, as always Matt. Thanks for putting it together. Both Chroma Console and Microcosm are my desert island pedals. Love them so much.
Got both pedals, no other pedal needed EVER ✨ thank you guys
Get an axe fx bro
The Microcosm is amazing and so great you’re doing demonstrations of your own creative processes and you use it is very helpful…and it arrived in the UK within a few days. Thanks for producing such a great product. I saw the review in Sound on Sound.
The ending was amazing 😂
The Chroma Console is a very unique pedal. With just a slight move to any knob you always get sonic bliss that works well with recording. I dont have the Microcosm but its on my list.
Yo...both excellent pedals. Do not regret the purchases AT ALL!
I'm curious if you all would consider creating a 500 series format of these amazing pieces.
“Here’s my clean tone….”
Awesome! Great demo, fun to watch, feels very creative. I have the hologram, chroma looks really fun.
Hologram is the manufacturer, not the pedal. What you have is the Microcosm.
@@saggygnaw Oh yes
@@saggygnaw Late night 😅
Impressive ❤
Fun stuff
so does the drift on the reverb change the depth and the rate of the modulation? the manual doesn't specify and here he just says "to my ears" but i can't quite tell if the depth did indeed change
Wow
I could get lost for days with these effects.
Holy cow! 😧
How did you make the distorted sound in the intro ? Guitar thru Chroma and Moog Matriarch ? Sounds fantastic 🤩
Yep, guitar into Chroma Console and also layered with Moog going into Chroma. The guitar sound is made from the following effects in the following order: Doubler > Reels > Space > Fuzz
Very cool. So is this just direct guitar? No amp? That never would have occurred to me, but it works.
yep, just DI in. for these instructional/tutorial style videos, we like to keep the sound as neutral as possible so you can hear what the pedals are doing without much additional coloration/processing. Also DI can just sound better in some occasions!
@@HologramElectronics Sometimes I get tripped up trying to decide the order of things. Pre or post amp, effects loop, or as an outboard send... I'm inspired now to just keep it simple next time I jump in. Thanks!
@@bucklebean sure thing! you can always change your mind with DI and reamp it through an amp if you wanted to later
