    I think it's great that RE is giving us such a choice of bikes in each cc lineup. Smart thinking, in my opinion. I'd love to see a Classic 650 and Scrambler 650 round out the range. I wish they'd offer other upgrades like classic twin dials, seat material/color choices, deluxe paint choices, larger fuel tank, etc., for an added premium price.

    The pegs are sitting in the middle of the Interceptor and the Super Meteor peg position, it seems to me. I can't do forward assist like the Super Meteor but the peg position on the Shotgun seem a nice location, they sure would do my one knee a favor.
    This motorcycle gives me 1940's Military vibes when studied from the side.
    May have to test ride one when they get to the States here. Thanks TBW....good stuff!

    Cracking mix of urban and countryside riding route. The Shotgun seemed to handle each with aplomb. One thing you did not mention is the pillion seat component which I believe sets it apart from the Super Meteo. Neatly designrd so that it can easily be removed entirely, or set-up as rear luggage rack. Cheers

    Morning Dave. Nice to see you managed to get out on the Shotgun, and have come to pretty much the same conclusions as myself. As you know, I too mentioned the bar risers, or slight higher bars. I have also been saying for ages about the very likely introduction of a Classic 650, mentioning it in my review, as I had seen spy pics quite a while ago. I reckon it will be like this Shotgun, but with bling, spoked wheels and possibly forks similar to the Classic 350.Hopefully the black engine casings will remain, but I doubt that 🫣, so a few tubes of Autosol should be ordered at the same time 😂. These are just my opinion though 😉

    I'm still holding out and hoping for a Classic/Bullet 500 single. I believe that, in my opinion, RE has filled the 650 line up just fine, but there's an obvious hole that the 500 single could fill. They should keep it simple. No frills and NO Tripper. Move the speedo over to the middle where it belongs. Do that, RE, and my checkbook will be ready and able.

    • @stephenphillip5656
      @stephenphillip5656 Před 3 měsíci +1

      I was always puzzled by RE's decision to make the new single a 350 to replace the 500. I know that they couldn't develop the existing 500 to meet increasingly strict emissions restrictions & yes they had to design a new engine. I have a 2018 C500 & I love it. A bored-out 350 would make a sensible 500 surely?

    • @jroberthadden
      @jroberthadden Před 3 měsíci +1

      We know that there is plenty of room for boring the current 350 to a 500. THAT would make a perfect big thumper and would fit nicely into their heritage. Really, that is all that RE would need to do as the rest of the Classic and Bullet are just fine. I really like your videos.

    We often see reviewers struggling to precisely label bikes, and then compare the product to "what it should be". Personally, I think attempts at pedantic categorisation can be counter-productive - the reality is, very few owners use their bike exclusively for it's designated "purpose". When something more general purpose comes along it should be received as such. The reality is, there's a grey-scale of actual usage, and whilst aesthetics and image play a significant part in marketing a product, practicality is (at least to me) of primary importance.
    If categorisation is necessary, I would describe the Shotgun (at least visually) as simply, "a straightforward utilitarian motorbike" - and I like it all the more for that possibly less marketable label.

    I really like the Shot Gun 650. Blue looks really nice, as does the green. Personal preferences here, but I do prefer polished engine cases and chrome zorsts; certainly not a deal breaker for me thought but.
    I agree she does sound nice with the oe zorsts and I do like the shape of them.
    Question is, would I chop in Edna our beloved 2019 Interceptor? Wifey and I luv that bike. I have chucked a fair bit of wedge on customising her and the Hitchcocks slash cut zorsts sound like the dogs dangly bits. Truth be told, I don’t reckon I can chop Edna in at all; but I still luv the Shot Gun.
    Great video; very fair appraisal, you are correct to compare with the Super Meteor and I liked the way you gave the spec differential’s when required.
    Your enthusiasm and energy for the bike are infectious, one of the reasons your vids are always so damn enjoyable.

    You wondered what niche the Shotgun fits… then hit the nail on the head. It does slot neatly into the space vacated by Harley's base model 883 Sportster. It's the ideal economically priced core bike to build your own custom from, but even cheaper than the very basic 883 which fitted that bill so admirably before.

    Well, you didn't disappoint. I feel you gave the bike a good honest review but more importantly as a Super Meteor owner like my self you could do the proper comparisons. It goes with out saying this bike is based on the Super Meteor and not like any other RE model. The black engine etc does look really nice, I would like that on my SM 650 but also owning a Classic 350 in that "DRAB' gun metal grey 🤣😂🤣I do benefit from not having to clean all that alloy. The rear seat / rack affair is not my cup of tea also. But it will be a fantastic built bike and is very affordable, I am sure RE will sell many. I too wouldn't change my Super Meteor for it. Keep up the great content and honest reviews, makes all the difference when someone testing a bike tells you as it is and not having to please suppliers in fear of not getting another test bike 👍Ride safe

    As RE keep offering slight tweeks on a basic system I wonder if they have thought of offering a custom service to basically tweak your own bike at the point of purchase.
    Eg specify you want spoked or wire wheels, chrome or black exhaust. Bigger front fender, bar end mirrors or Mickey Mouse etc
    You could then get exactly what you want without having to use after market options or change things at extra cost.
    Just a thought, but they are rife for customising and this could be done at the point of sale which would probably be cheaper to the customer.
    They then wouldn’t need so many different models just individually specified machines.

    Another great review Dave, one thing that really disappoints me is the weight of the motorcycle. I want to carry on riding as long as possible so the weight of a motorcycle is an important factor when making a decision of what to buy. I have recently been out on a 2hr demo of the Triumph 400 scrambler and I can honestly say that I was really impressed with it's performance and it's very managable weight. The scrambler weighs 179kg and has 40bhp vs 240kg and 47bhp of the RE 650 twins. I know the RE twins are not not scramblers(well not yet!) but the speed 400 is a retro roadster. I am not a Triumph fanboy and I have never owned a Triumph so I have no bias either way. Perhaps the competition for the Shotgun is the MG V9, Honda CL500, Triumph Bonneville bobber or Benelli 502C?

    I'd always hoped someone would bring out a British cruiser along the lines of the Sunbeam S7/S8. These were heavily influenced by the BMW R75 of the 1930s, a European idea of a cruiser rather than an American one. The Shotgun is quite close. If the much anticipated Classic 650 has the same frame as the Shotgun and Super Meteor, as rumours suggest, it might be quite close to (my) ideal.

    • @m2menuiserie540
      @m2menuiserie540 Před 3 měsíci +1

      The Sunbeam S7 was a terrible bike. The S8 was even worse. True, it was based on the BMW R75 (part of war reparations, like the DKW/BSA Bantam), but Sunbeam scrapped the defining feature of the R75, the boxer engine) in favour of a twin inline with the frame. They also messed up the shaft drive, replacing the bevel gears with a metal grinding worm drive. To mitigate the effects of that, they reduced the power output. Bung on balloon tyres to wreck the handling, and you have all the necessary conditions of the ruination of the British motorcycle industry.
      Thank God, current Royal Enfields are significantly better than that. The Raj bites back!

    Still undecided on the Shotgun, waiting to see the classic 650 , but if doesn't look exactly like the 350 classic styling including the headlight nacelle, I won't bother with it , in fact it probably won't have the same nacelle as it probably will have a rev counter .
    Good review of the Shotgun anyway Dave ,

    There needs to be a good smaller light weight bikes for people to learn on. I think most manufacturers just want to make the huge 1,000 cc-2500 monsters
    We need starter bikes for smaller people or for folks who want to ride but feels like no one makes these. I ride an Indian and think they need to address these issues

    Nice video, but I'm afraid I come to this biased in favour of the Super Meteor. I am a Super Meteor owner and when you mention that the seat is "firmer" it made me flinch. Even with the standard factory seat, I can get about 40-50 miles before my rear starts to complain. To be honest, I don't see the point in the Shotgun, especially coming in so soon after the Super Meteor. Once again, I don't like the colour options on the Shogun. Each to their own I guess.

    Seems a nice enough bike, Dave, but I don't think it's for me. The colours seem uninspiring and it's still overweight. Gloss black casings are fine, but I'm not a fan of matt exhausts, prefering something shiny. For a solo rider, the built-in luggage rack is a smart idea; for two-up, I'd hope that the pannier straps would be attachable between the rack and the seat. The engines in the RE 650's are all understressed, so they should be pretty-well bullet-proof, if you'll forgive the pun.

    I do like these and sat on it, at the Scottish motorcycle show.
    But it’s sadly too high and bulky for Wee Mark.
    Wish they’d go back to bike heights of the 70’s and early 80’s.😂
    But sitting on it, felt, so right.
    Logically my only step up from my 500 Rebel is the 1100.
    Am keeping the Meteor.😂
    But nice review Dave. Not fun been a real short arse, you’re so limited, in choice

    I reckon the feet forward position works well on twist & rip CVT maxi scooters as there are no foot controls , but on motorcycles it’s big no no for me . I am not a fan of customs , cruisers or bobbers , but if I only had the choice between the Shotgun & Super Meteor I would have to choose the Shotgun . I prefer the feet rests & controls in the standard position & the steeper front fork rake for the handling on sharp country bends ,& shorter wheel base ,manoeuvring ability in city traffic jams . Also if the rumours of a possible RE 650 Bullet or Classic is true ,it needs to be a big single not a twin , as RE have enough 650 twin models in their range already .

      Get the Sportster. Hydraulic valve adjustment and belt drive means all you have to do is change the fluids and filter in 30 minutes in my driveway. Belts last 100,000+ miles with no maintenance. I have had my Sportster for 25 years and 400,000 miles on the original engine and 37 back tires and 17 front ones and 3 belts in 25 years. RE recomends engine rebuild at 65,000 miles. Lots of accessories and performance up grades. Sportsters are rebuidable forever ♾️. You can buy a good one for $2,500 or less a great bargain. Change the oil regularly and the bike will last forever. On a rubber mounted Sportster change the riveted clutch plate in the clutch and you are good to go. Sportsters 883 is not fast but 1200 has more HP but you can put a 1275 kit on a883. I love my Sportster 883. Very economical and fun to ride . Get one and you won't be disappointed.

      @@splodge5714 Yeah much better class. Sportsters are rebuidable forever ♾️. I ride all the time because I don't have a car. So l put tons of miles on them. HD made a heinous decision to discontinued the Sportster. SWM and their copy of the EVO Sportsters are going to knock RE 650 out of the park. Sportsters are not a gateway to the big twins. It's a motorcycle unto itself.

You have made many videos, but your CZcams channel is not getting as many views and subscribers as expected. Because you have no complete SEO for any videos, no channel tags, and no video tags, if you SEO your videos, your subscribers and views will increase, and your channel will grow. Your video quality is very good, but the channel is not increasing due to not doing video SEO. By doing video SEO, the channel grows faster. I can help you if you want.
