      Yes Verizon is the best and most reliable . AT & T is definitely giving them a fight . Verizon has the best coverage and AT & T has the fastest speeds from my experience and everywhere I've been . I use them both and they are both great ! Great job again . Thank you !

    I recently got one of these (for free) and I set it up, skipped Verizon sign in because I don't need Verizon services on it, and side loaded stuff for my own use. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't connect my 4 TB external HDD (NTFS formatted) though. It seems like the USB port doesn't provide enough power. My flash drive (NTFS formatted) works fine though. I'm considering getting a special cable for the HDD that allows me to plug it into another source for extra power as I really like this Android TV box. As a person who typically has always liked Google's design (or similar designs), Verizon's design is pretty nice and not changed too much.
    Edit: rewired some stuff and HDD works fine now

Slower than a snail, can’t wait to toss them all. And $70 is a lot cheaper than a $150 Apple TV, plus you’re getting a nice remote with a number pad. Now if only Verizon had an internet based TV service like the other providers.

    I think you could definitely take game streaming to your standard test on a streaming box! I'll assume that you get the stadia app on this device and at the moment you'll get cyberpunk for like 50 bucks with a 10 bucks discount. And this game could definitely be a benchmark for the next years. ;)
    And since you have that Game Pass Ultimate subscription running, it would definitely be great to test like Subnautica on a device like this.
    Thanks for all your videos and opinions on the devices and have a nice weekend!

  • @lsdowdle
    @lsdowdle Před 3 lety

    So have you worked with an AV1/OPUS based content (either in webm or mkv container format)? I've been messing around with various encoders and am currently using rav1e. More than a year ago it'd take weeks to encode something in 1080p. Now it takes a few days... but I'm using hand-me-down desktop systems without any powerful GPU assist. Playback is fine... although I haven't been doing anything above 1080p as I don't have any displays that do higher resolutions and of course I don't currently have any hardware that has AV1 specific optimizations such as the new CPU you mentioned in this review. Currently I'm not aware of any media content providers using AV1... so the bulk of AV1 content I've been using I've encoded myself.
    I envision that once more hardware is available with AV1 assist and it becomes more common place, that content providers will start offering it as an option... and encoding will become considerably more efficient as will playback. At that point hopefully Plex (or Jellyfin) clients will support native playback (without transcoding) of AV1 content and then I can switch to it for the primary storage format for all of my video content... saving SO MUCH disk space and avoiding the potential for royalty charges at any position within the overall global media ecosystem.
    I remember when I first started with AV1 encoding and rather than being in FPS, it was MPF (minutes per frame) and later SPF (seconds per frame). Wondering how well it will work with hardware assist. Are there any encoders available that can be run on your review device and if so, what is the SPF or does it improve so much that it is FPS and somewhat comparable to say, H265 or H264 encoding?

    Is there any TV box that have anything like the AI upscaling that the Nvidia Shield has? At least some basic upscaling that can improve standard def content from external tuners. Is there anyone who can answer ^this?

      @@ETAPRIME What makes you prefer Chromecast? Is it just the lower price, or something else? Even at the higher price, this Verizon unit is a lot more attractive to me with its more fully featured remote and built in USB port. I can't stand the Chromecast remote - it's much too slippery for me (it's popped out of my hand on a number of occasions) and the volume buttons are more difficult to use.

      As @Craig 2web just asked, can you elaborate on why you prefer the new Chromecast over this? The price? I'm curious if the S905x4 will end up being better in the long run with better performance.
