Don't be fooled by the second plane. It's actually the top secret SR-72 Whitebird. Capable of speeds in excess of Mach .00001 (10 mph with two people pushing). It was also developed at Porcupine Works. It still flies renaissance missions over farm fields looking for mice.

You are correct. Top fuel and a vertically landing harrier have nothing on the blackbird. My dad saw them at Kadena when he was in the marines. He took me out to Edwards when I was 14 to see the last one fly. It was a life changing experience. Only thing I’ve experienced with a more overwhelming presence was an IED.
@@buckfutter99i know this is an old post but... what year was it that you went to Edwards AFB and saw that SR-71? I was a Crewchief on the KC-10A Extender. We flew out of March AFB to do refueling missions for Edwards. NASA had that SR-71 on loan from the USAF. We used to fuel it for them. Was there for the YF-22 and YF-23 program too. And also got to be there for the B2 testing. Which was interesting. The B2 complex was across the runway from where NASA was housed. Neat part on the B2 program was, that they had a KC-135 set up with avionics from the B2. They did all the testing in the KC-135 to make sure it was up to snuff before they actually chanced it in the B2. There was no leeway in testing the B2. If it crashed, they program was basically done. So that was a workaround. Anyways the early 90s we did refueling for NASA and that SR-71. If I remember correctly...I believe they had two on loan. But the one was the main one they used. I might have been there when you saw it fly.
Ones a titanium spy craft going so high that pilots can see the earths curvature and going Mach 3.2 (at least 2,100 MPH) The other is a single propeller plane at least 400MPH.
I watched the 71 do touch n go at Mildenhall back in 1990. It was incredible. I was in the USAF. I had crew bus duty one day. Guess who I pick up? 71 boys all suited up. 2 pilots do the preflight. One pilot is always on headset on the ground. Visibility is not that great. The fuel is loaded to half full. Weight is an issue at low speeds. I watched 2 TOL and multiple approaches. When it turned outbound at 60 degrees.....everyone around, whoever, whatever......said WOW!
Wow I had heard the sr71 leaked fuel like crazy on the ground, but I didn’t realize it poured out of it that much. The plane needed to be going really fast to have the metal swell from the heat and tighten up. When a sr71 took off they had to have a tanker in the air to refuel it almost immediately since it dumped and used so much just to take off.
Holy crap is that seriously it's fuel, it's literally gushing out. Insane stuff. Weird that I've never noticed it before on other vids, maybe I haven't seen as many takeoffs as I think.
actually, that is a common misconception the fuel that leaked out was very minimal, it was an intentional feature for the fuel to leak out a bit since the high heat made it impossible to fully seal the fuselage. The planes were only refueled bc top speeds could only be reached that way
They didn't have it fully fueled on the ground because it required full afterburner to take off and it would guzzle fuel at an astronomic rate. Minimum in the tanks meant it would weigh less on takeoff, once in the air they could refuel and push to a cruise speed much more efficiently, nothing to do with leaking on the ground.
Crazy it leaks all that fuel all over the runway. For those who don’t know, the plane is filled with fuel, not just in gas tank. But the heat expansion while in air, seals it up. But when it’s cold (contraction), the fuel leaks all over the runway
If it's actually fuel leaking out in the beginning of the takeoff run, I'm surprised the burner didn't light the fuel vapor on fire? It must be hot enough for the fuel to ignite back there?

That is not fuel. It is purging gaseous nitrogen which as just been pumped into the fuel tanks to fill the void when the fuel load reduces. This reduces the volatility of the fuel fumes and prevents autogenous ignition at high temperatures.
