    Excellent concept. There are obviously some areas that need to be improved upon for accuracy, but it's a DIY project. Anyone can have a machine shop cut the perfect parts. The beauty of DIY is creating awesome things like this without $500K in equipment. You've come up with an amazing design. I hope you don't mind me using it for inspiration because this looks like a really fun project. Congrats for making an awesome little device.

    subscribed! Congratulations on the way you solved the movement , steps and automation with only mechanical switches ! Your cutting tool is ingenious too. I would have used optical sensing for rotation. In this way it would need electronics, but you would be able to print a disc in transparent material (i.e. with a laser or inkjet printer) , and have infinite options.

    • @serengytech

    • @notabagel
      @notabagel Před rokem +4

      Alternatively, if you are to add electronics anyways, you could use a rotary encoder/potentiometer to control the motor and get infinite adjustability without having to change any parts. You could also replace the indexing motor with a stepper to do the same task. I love your electronic dividing head concept though.

Надеюсь увидеть продолжение,- модернизацию станка на рельсах, винтах ШВП- хотя бы исполнения SFU12 серии и энкодером. Тогда уже точно будет непревзойдённая модель станка для зубонарезания.

    But if I were to suggest an "upgrade", it'd be a dirt shield right behind the rotation axis of the gear, or outright reversing the cutting direction of the cutter.
    Throwing all that metal dust right into the moving parts can't be good for the little machine in the long run : (

    All this needs is a pitch adjustment. Very nice design though I can see improvements to it. How about a dust collection system and cutting oil drip? This would be excellent for hobbyists who need to make polymer, even glass gears.

    • @barcodenosebleed5485
      @barcodenosebleed5485 Před rokem +1

      @@serengytech yeah, that disk and its interface with the microswitch is certainly the linchpin of the system. I'm wondering if there's anything about the geometry of the switch lever that could make it more accurate. Another thought, when that switch engages, are you simply breaking the circuit to stop the rotational motor? It might be able to be stopped a few microseconds more quickly if you wire it so it also shorts the motor at the same time. "Short braking" is often used in such a scenario to stop these kinds of motors using the back EMF that occurs. Perhaps that's what you've already done anyway.
      Very cool project. Love things that are pulled together from random scrap like my own router table with parts from rollerblades and a rototiller.

      @@serengytech технологии потерянной сверхцивилизации :)) кстати такая идея за улучшение, на некоторых заготовках видна нелинейность повторения поворота позиции енкодера и поэтому происходит накопление ошибки и последний зуб получается шире чем остальные. Если на концевике, фиксирующием поаврот, использовать шарик или скажем концевую гайку округлую, а не треугольник, чтобы позиция енкодера всегда совпадала, то ошибка в теории накапливаться не будет
