    For me, Bill Maynard was Heartbeat, and Geoffrey Hughes after him.These two grabbed the acting honours for the hugely entertaining characterizations....RIP to two major acting talents.

    One can't help but think the late Bill Maynard would've done well in Emmerdale. If Greengrass is anything to go by it, he'd be a member of the Dingle family if he ever was on the Dales.

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01 Před 4 lety

      I think he was too typecast by then as Greengrass and they would've kept thinking he was Green grass if he had appeared in a different show. I think Bill would've played a good Zac Dingle though, much better than the actor who plays him. The actor who plays Zac appeared in a very early ep of Heartbeat (series 2 I think), where Ventress goes undercover pretending to be Claude in a porn mag shop.

      @@JohnThomas-hf6md Do you mean the episode where the actor who played Zac Dingle appeared in?. He was in series 2 ep 3 "Manhunt".

    There's a video I've uploaded of Bill interviewed on Dailylive (a breakfast show on BBC1 I believe) with Paul Ross in about 98/99 talking about his acting career. I have recordings of several interviews with him on GMTV. After he left it was never the same, and although HB was starting to become a bit of a comedy show mixed with drama, it was nowhere near as silly as it became after he left. Anyone know why they never show the earlier series prior to Green grass leaving on ITV4?. All the episodes they show are always from about 2001/2 when Craddock took over and Mike Bradley replaced Nick. They never show any earlier series even from when Green grass was still in it.

      Heartbeat have always been an series with drama and comedy mixed together. I can't remember it be more comedy after Greengrass left. Is it season 1 they don't rerun in the UK? Here in Sweden they have always rerun it from season 1.

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01 Před 4 lety

      @@TVARKSweden Yeah in the UK on the ITV4 freeview channel they only show the later series from the early 2000s when Blaketon retired as Sgt, after Green grass left and Vernon Scripps took over. They more or less show them from there up to the last series (18), and then once that has completed they go back to where they started, which is from the early 2000s series (about series 10). They have never, as far as I've seen, gone back to any earlier series, certainly not to when Nick was still in the show. I agree it always had some humour mixed with drama, but as time went on the gritty storylines became watered down (in the early series there some mild swearing and violence and controversial storylines which I feel portrayed the 60s well), even David was a serious character at first. But it later became too silly with David, Vernon and Bernie, and Peggy too. They made too many episodes in the later series.

      @@Embracing01 Quite interesting why they do that. In Norway they rerun from season 7 so they have never showed any older episodes then that. I was in season 7 1997 Nick was replace with Mike and not 2001/2002 :)

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01 Před 4 lety +1

      @@TVARKSweden Yeah it's very odd. It can't be down to music rights as they could just use cover versions, like they do with Beatles songs. Some of the early series episodes they probably wouldn't get away with today. I couldn't imagine them showing the episode of the girl having an abortion, the foot and mouth and other such storylines, wouldn't go down well with the Sunday night audience (mainly 60-80 age range) that are all rose tinted specs and have this warped nostalgic view of the 60s. HB towards the end became very stereotyped and watered down imo. I
      I have just finished digitizing a couple of interviews with the Heartbeat cast when they appeared on GMTV in 1996 as part of their Heartbeat Week special, recorded in late May 1996. There's a behind the scenes and interview with Tricia Penrose and her singing Baby Love in the studio. There's also interview with Mark Jordon and Derek Fowlds, Bill Maynard, and then they talk to the owner of Police House and then interview Nick Berry and Julliet Gruber (Jo Weston) at the police house. I know precisely when they were aired because the day after we went to the police house at Askwith to watch them filming a scene where Nick meets his London friend. Will upload them if there's no issues with copyright. I'm sure fans will love them.
