We got approved today. I waited less than 1 min for a video interview to explain why it's hard for my son to stand in line due to his disability. That is the only question the Cast Member asked me. In under 2 mins on the entirety of the call I was approved. Extremely easy and painless process. They were extremely nice and understanding. My family member also got approved without any issues after explaining the Neurodivergent disability and why it's difficult waiting in line. After all of the fuss from the new rules and so much negative feedback, I had extreme anxiety to go through the process, but I'm so glad I did.
You were NOT wrong in the previous video. I just went through the video process as 3 of us were previously covered under DAS. Now, even my wife , a veteran with severe PTSD does NOT qualify. I am even more concerned about my daughter with syncope, who will drop if unable to sit in a cool area at least every 30 min. Unfortunately, this will now be our last trip to WDW as it appears that is what Disney would prefer.

If a meltdown like that happens I'm looking for an exit as fast as humanly possible and not just from the ride, we're COMPLETELY done for that day. Thank you for the video, I just went through the DAS process with my son and the video helped me prepare in terms of making a list on paper. I made a list of the physical and mental symptoms he has and the things that will bother him on the trip and in the parks, particularly lines. I also made the list of all equipment, strategies, supports available and used by him at home, at school and in the community. It was a fairly straightforward process to register.
After I was denied, I was told to either reconsider buying Lighting Lane or reconsider taking my trip all together. Which I indeed did. I've also reconsidered any future visits as well.
Disney should be allowed to ask for proof of disability and not be normalised to ask question and decide based on the answers rather proof of disability like DLP Priority Card system.

I recently was denied DAS at Disney World. In February, my PTSD allowed me use of DAS but earlier this month, I was denied. It seems that the only way one can be approved is if there is a possibility of violence during an outburst.
I love that people are up in arms about the class action lawsuit thing. It's kind of a non-issue because you can still bring an individual suit if you need to. It's just that Disney knows most guests aren't going to have the resources or knowledge to bring an individual civil suit. Class action lawsuits aren't really going to benefit the individual anyway. Can you possibility elaborate on the comment you made at 15:40 about the "special circumstances" for solos that would need a medical professional? Why is "solo only" a special circumstance? My DAS has always been just me. My need for DAS doesn't change if I'm with others.
Let me elaborate a little. If you are solo, I was told they can issue special Solo only DAS Pass, but they need to have the medical professional approve it. I believe it means that if you had a group or others on the DAS with you, your needs would be met that way, but since you are solo that is not possible. I will double check the exact wording and write back.

And, I f I do have family woth me, I'm very picky about who I link, specifically because I don't want to take advantage of it, or rather, those people tale advantage of me. 😁 I'm over in California and my current DAS access expires in early June, but before the changes take place here. I'm not terribly worried about qualifying again, but the stress is real.

You make a fair and valid point. I tried to be more on target and make it about the pass only and explain how to process works. This does not mean I will stop being angry. I still have a son on the spectrum who needs his own DAS. There is still a great divide between who gets and doesn't get it.
I just went through the DAS screening twice and what I would say is don't give up. My son is on the spectrum and he will just start wandering if he is board or sees something that would interest him. Both times within 30 secs of the screening he got up and started wandering from me. The second time I made a point to turn the camera and show him wandering around and "being in his own world" and was approved. He got denied on Friday and I tried again yesterday because I felt I let him down by not advocating hard enough for him the first time.

I have lung cancer and when stuffed into a large group of people, it makes it difficult for me to breathe, it is concerning to me to have to wait in a packed line of people, and with my treatments my immune system is quite weak, and using a mask make breathing hard for me. My trip in september will be the first trip back since my lungs have been this bad. I have mobility issues from my cancer and will use a ecv, in the past i absolutely loved waiting in the lines, it was always part of the enjoyment (i enjoy people watching) i understand the need to "police" the das system, but it really has made it alot more difficult for people with certain disabilities to enjoy a family vacation. I hope this trip will be uneventful, but only time will tell. Im not mad at disneys decision to change the das system, just disappointed that it excludes these disabilities.
I live over a 1000 miles away from WDW so it is a Vacation for me. They will not let me put in for a DAS until I have a Vacation Package. So if I get turn down they are no way I can go to the parks with get a DAS so that is one thing I don't have to worry about. All Disney is doing is force us to pay for Genie Plus so I can book a ride. Next they will fix the Handicap parking problem.
Disney had best rethink this issue. I have seen so many videos showing people truly in need of a DAS pass that were turned down. Shameful! Spent over an hour on line chatting with both regular chat and DAS chat only to find out they could not even give me an idea if I would qualify until after I bought the non-refundable park tickets. That is another example of $$$ grab. We cancelled our booked trip in Oct because of this. Have been a die hard Disney fan for a lot of years but things have gotten so bad i doubt we will ever go again until the $$ grabs and a serious fix to DAS are implemented. And seriously believe they will not change until people stop going.

From what I was told and what I saw while visiting Disneyland last month, the DAS button showed up the first day of the trip. I don't know what time in the am it showed up, but well before going to the parks.
What about Cerabral Palsy, that is an developmental disability, and people living with Cp can have multiple symptoms. What if you talk to a cast member and they dont understand what actually you go through on a daily basis. Disabiled people aren't asking for Disney to let them go to Disney for free, the just want it tobe an enjoyable experience
We just did it this morning. Just explain the issues that pertain to standing in lines. You don't need to give your whole life story. I have Spina Bifida and i was nervous but it was so easy. They are trained.
My big frustration is that you can’t find out if you’re approved or not until AFTER you buy tickets and plan a trip. I also wish that they had a way to get it in the parks if their “alternative” accommodations don’t work. My condition isn’t a cognitive disability, but I genuinely cannot wait in most of Disney’s queues and the return to line system won’t work in my case. I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars to hang out in Disney first aid all day! One of the best things about the old DAS system was that you could get approved if they saw you struggling in the park during your trip. I’m worried that Disney will just refuse to help you if your disability can’t be fixed by their “alternative accommodations”. It’s such a bummer because Disney used to be the best place for disabled people to visit!

This is correct. Honestly it is the same system as before. Only difference is they are only approving true people who are disabled. Das pass is good for those who truly need it. This man is happy bc his child qualified. Bc they have autism. Remember if he gets caught using the DAS Pass service without his child. Our next visit isn’t until late 2025. So, who knows what DAS will look like by then. Hell, my kiddo will also be older, perhaps her issues will be easier to mitigate by then and I won’t need to deal with this stuff. And yet, I find myself enthralled. I want to see Disney’s numbers. I want to know how big the misuse issue actually was and see what adjustments will be made to facilitate these other options. 100% the same. Personally think the misuse was less than 5%. I believe the major of the spike were people use the free fast system and felt like they do not need use DAS. After the fast pass was gone, a big chunk of those people felt the need to use DAS.
Im nervous about this. Our 8yo daughter is high functioning Autistic and has adhd and anxiety issues. We need das because she will likely have a meltdown and elope if forced to wait in a line for an extended period of time. The problem is that, aside from speech delay, she seems perfectly normal unless she is in crisis. I wish they would just accept her diagnosis. This is so stressfull because there is no way we can do this without das. Is she has a meltdown at any point then the whole day will be shot. If we dont get approved we will have to cancel the trip and she is looking forward to it soo much. Like it isnt bad enough i had to drop over 6K on a vacation then now i have to worry about something that used to be easy. I hate all those jerks who had to abuse the system and screw it up for people who actually need it.
At this point I’m just done. Knowing how stubborn and money grubbing Disney has become I find it HIGHLY unlikely that the das pass will ever be corrected to include physically disabled guest. They didn’t budge on the outrageous pricing of the Star cruiser, they’ll never budge on genie plus. So why even bother when the company has lost everything that made it special? Almost all the old guard and perks are gone and every new attraction is made on the cheep. I’ll still be pissed they screwed over the disabled community but in a way it’s nice to finally accept the Disney I knew is dead and never coming back. Do I sound melodramatic? Yes. I am very concerned about not gettinng it this time. I have mutiple nuro conditions that should in theory get my approved , however, i worry about all the people who do not have someone to help advocate for themselfs. (my husband helps me) and are denied. How many meltdowns will they ssee in line attributing to ruining others vacations? Prior to getting das, I was one of those people who had a meltdown and tried to crawl on top of someone to get away while crying hysterically in pirates bc i just hit my sensory limit. This is the ONLY good thing Disney has done for a long time. Stop trying to appeal to the 1% of people that are neurotic simpletons. I had anxiety my entire life, but then I started focusing on my own health and well-being, and like magic, it went away. I started eating healthier, stopped drinking sugary drinks (and eating sugary things in general), started working out every day, and made sure to have a purpose. These people claiming their "anxiety" is crippling, don't want to take steps to curve it and at the very least make it manageable. I never used Social Media, but I know for a fact that these people claiming to have anxiety as a "disability" are also the same ones stuck on social media half the day. Stop subjecting yourself to other people's opinions and putting so much stock into what others think. Stop being addicted to being angry all the time and upset over other people's actions. If someone doesn't want to acknowledge your perception of the world, then too bad, get over it. On a side note, man does it suck for people these days haha...you have to make a "reservation" to use YOUR annual pass? What a f'n joke! I had a pass in my first 3 years of college (2003-2006), and went a ton of times to Disneyland with my friends after work, or after school. We would just on a whim go to Disneyland after smoking some herb...before it became annoying to see people say "look how cool I am, I smoke weed!". We would then go for a few hours by parking in Downtown Disney and get 'validated' by most places there that didn't give a shit and would go into Tomorrowland through the monorail there. It was so awesome back then to go to Disneyland, you could go on a weekday and spend 3-4 hours and go on 4-6 rides. It makes me laugh at how terrible it is now and how deserving this new generation is of that.
Why does PTSD fall under this, though? I have PTSD from multiple traumas and a severe medical disability (crohns), but I have never considered those to be anyone else’s responsibility to cater to my issues; I have to decide if I can handle the theme park environment based on my limits and triggers. I think this entitlement for free DAS is kind of silly when genie + is an option that offers nearly identical benefits to those who can’t tolerate waiting in line (aside from children who can’t understand the concept of time and wouldn’t benefit from a traditional return time window). And if Genie + can’t accommodate those limits, then I don’t go to the parks. I don’t see Disney world as a place I’m entitled to go. I understood that life isn’t fair a long time ago. Idk, just one perspective.

@@Julia_beelll life isn’t equal for anyone. Trying to make it so is fruitless imo. The same arguments that you’re making for disabled people could be made for able bodied people with any sort of inequity (financial or emotional hardship, language barriers, etc) but there’s no special program offered for those people. Given the severity of conditions I could absolutely argue that I “need” the accommodations, and I’m sure I would be offered some sort of modification even under the new system, but I don’t do that because I know that this service is intended for a very narrow scope of disabilities. My concerns can be addressed by purchasing genie + and being responsible for my own conditions (taking medications to help with symptoms, asking cast members for leeway on return times if I’m late due to symptoms, refraining from going to the parks if I can’t get symptoms reasonably under control, etc.). This system has been so abused that now everyone is paying the consequences for it; this crackdown is long overdue. I’m glad that people are going to have to start thinking a little bit more about how they can take some responsibility for their own circumstances and less about how they’re a victim to their condition(s). I suppose it boils down to a difference in personal values and philosophies.
First I want to say how I respect your opinion and everyone is free to their own. As a army veteran, I witnessed two deaths when I was on active duty that caused severe PTSD that triggers when waiting in confined spaces or triggered by kids screaming or random noises. Despite this, I’ve been going to Disneyland for years as it’s a safe haven for me. For years, I just pushed through the heavy breathing and elevated heart rate when waiting in lines. And yes, I’ve gladly paid for genie + as well. But in early 2023, a cast member noticed how I was on the verge of having a panic attack as my PTSD has only worsen over the years and he introduced me to DAS and it has been a totally life saver. Not only does it work for ALL rides, it allows me to bring my family with my in line without needing to shell out $80-120 extra for all of us to have Genie +. This has helped me deal with my PTSD greatly as I have them with me and won’t need to decide who or who doesn’t get a genie + today. If it turns out that Disney won’t accommodate someone like me through DAS now, then I’ll pay for genie + but I do feel it’s a bit unfair that I have to pay to accommodate my own disability.

From what I was told and what I saw while visiting Disneyland last month, the DAS button showed up the first day of the trip. I don't know what time in the am it showed up, but well before going to the parks.

What about Cerabral Palsy, that is an developmental disability, and people living with Cp can have multiple symptoms. What if you talk to a cast member and they dont understand what actually you go through on a daily basis. Disabiled people aren't asking for Disney to let them go to Disney for free, the just want it tobe an enjoyable experience
We just did it this morning. Just explain the issues that pertain to standing in lines. You don't need to give your whole life story. I have Spina Bifida and i was nervous but it was so easy. They are trained.

My big frustration is that you can’t find out if you’re approved or not until AFTER you buy tickets and plan a trip. I also wish that they had a way to get it in the parks if their “alternative” accommodations don’t work.
My condition isn’t a cognitive disability, but I genuinely cannot wait in most of Disney’s queues and the return to line system won’t work in my case. I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars to hang out in Disney first aid all day!
One of the best things about the old DAS system was that you could get approved if they saw you struggling in the park during your trip. I’m worried that Disney will just refuse to help you if your disability can’t be fixed by their “alternative accommodations”.
It’s such a bummer because Disney used to be the best place for disabled people to visit!

This is correct. Honestly it is the same system as before. Only difference is they are only approving true people who are disabled. Das pass is good for those who truly need it. This man is happy bc his child qualified. Bc they have autism. Remember if he gets caught using the DAS Pass service without his child. He will be banned for life from all the Disney parks because he was miss using the DAS pass service.
There are people who "truly" need it being denied. They are punishing the disabled for what the non disabled do.

Our next visit isn’t until late 2025. So, who knows what DAS will look like by then. Hell, my kiddo will also be older, perhaps her issues will be easier to mitigate by then and I won’t need to deal with this stuff. And yet, I find myself enthralled. I want to see Disney’s numbers. I want to know how big the misuse issue actually was and see what adjustments will be made to facilitate these other options. 100% the same. Personally think the misuse was less than 5%. I believe the major of the spike were people use the free fast system and felt like they do not need use DAS. After the fast pass was gone, a big chunk of those people felt the need to use DAS.
Im nervous about this. Our 8yo daughter is high functioning Autistic and has adhd and anxiety issues. We need das because she will likely have a meltdown and elope if forced to wait in a line for an extended period of time. The problem is that, aside from speech delay, she seems perfectly normal unless she is in crisis. I wish they would just accept her diagnosis. This is so stressfull because there is no way we can do this without das. Is she has a meltdown at any point then the whole day will be shot. If we dont get approved we will have to cancel the trip and she is looking forward to it soo much.
Like it isnt bad enough i had to drop over 6K on a vacation then now i have to worry about something that used to be easy. I hate all those jerks who had to abuse the system and screw it up for people who actually need it.
Eloping and meltdowns are key words. Cast member specifically told me to use the term elope next time on my interview

At this point I’m just done. Knowing how stubborn and money grubbing Disney has become I find it HIGHLY unlikely that the das pass will ever be corrected to include physically disabled guest. They didn’t budge on the outrageous pricing of the Star cruiser, they’ll never budge on genie plus. So why even bother when the company has lost everything that made it special? Almost all the old guard and perks are gone and every new attraction is made on the cheep. I’ll still be pissed they screwed over the disabled community but in a way it’s nice to finally accept the Disney I knew is dead and never coming back. Do I sound melodramatic? Yes. But I don’t give a shit. Yall can call me and disabled folk lazy liars all you want but at least I’m not paying thousands anymore for a mediocre experience. I’m off to universal!

Technically Universal does not ask for proof of disability. They rely on a third party to do it for them

i have autism as an adult, and i have been so scared for my trip in a couple months because DAS has really helped me in the past. i’m worried that they won’t accept me because i’m not a child, and i’ll have to explain my diagnosis. is this now only for CHILDREN with autism? or everyone with autism?

Why explaining it add that you do have the DX of autism - my child has autism and after therapy and growing up will have the tools to stand in lines. If his therapy is successful but I said he needs DAS because of his DX that would be abusing the system.
Once again someone who does not know trying to say what is or is not qualified. It has nothing to do with your diagnosis it is not limited to any real diagnosis, it is specific to your symptoms. You are telling people it is ONLY for a cognitive disability, that is not true, I have NO cognitive disability at all, yet I got a DAS under the new rules. So once again spreading false news about something you know nothing about, you just basically told people without a cognitive cognitive disability that they don’t qualify, which is 100% false.
According to the DaS Cast Members, they are absolutely being told that they should ONLY be approving Cognitive. Just because 1 or 2 people have been lucky to talk to a CM who understands and is willing to break the rules does not mean I am wrong

I am very concerned about not gettinng it this time. I have mutiple nuro conditions that should in theory get my approved , however, i worry about all the people who do not have someone to help advocate for themselfs. (my husband helps me) and are denied. How many meltdowns will they ssee in line attributing to ruining others vacations? Prior to getting das, I was one of those people who had a meltdown and tried to crawl on top of someone to get away while crying hysterically in pirates bc i just hit my sensory limit. Another time I was over stimulated by the time we go on the norway ride prior to frozen and i cried the entire time about how i didnt want to die and the family behind us said we ruined thier trip. my point is how many complaints is disney going to get from this from nurotypical people just from how nuro divergent people are without help? This is the ONLY good thing Disney has done for a long time. Stop trying to appeal to the 1% of people that are neurotic simpletons. I had anxiety my entire life, but then I started focusing on my own health and well-being, and like magic, it went away. I started eating healthier, stopped drinking sugary drinks (and eating sugary things in general), started working out every day, and made sure to have a purpose. These people claiming their "anxiety" is crippling, don't want to take steps to curve it and at the very least make it manageable. I never used Social Media, but I know for a fact that these people claiming to have anxiety as a "disability" are also the same ones stuck on social media half the day. Stop subjecting yourself to other people's opinions and putting so much stock into what others think. Stop being addicted to being angry all the time and upset over other people's actions. If someone doesn't want to acknowledge your perception of the world, then too bad, get over it.
On a side note, man does it suck for people these days haha...you have to make a "reservation" to use YOUR annual pass? What a f'n joke! I had a pass in my first 3 years of college (2003-2006), and went a ton of times to Disneyland with my friends after work, or after school. We would just on a whim go to Disneyland after smoking some herb...before it became annoying to see people say "look how cool I am, I smoke weed!". We would then go for a few hours by parking in Downtown Disney and get 'validated' by most places there that didn't give a shit and would go into Tomorrowland through the monorail there. It was so awesome back then to go to Disneyland, you could go on a weekday and spend 3-4 hours and go on 4-6 rides. It makes me laugh at how terrible it is now and how deserving this new generation is of that.

Why does PTSD fall under this, though? I have PTSD from multiple traumas and a severe medical disability (crohns), but I have never considered those to be anyone else’s responsibility to cater to my issues; I have to decide if I can handle the theme park environment based on my limits and triggers. I think this entitlement for free DAS is kind of silly when genie + is an option that offers nearly identical benefits to those who can’t tolerate waiting in line (aside from children who can’t understand the concept of time and wouldn’t benefit from a traditional return time window). And if Genie + can’t accommodate those limits, then I don’t go to the parks. I don’t see Disney world as a place I’m entitled to go. I understood that life isn’t fair a long time ago. Idk, just one perspective.

@idaUnchained being disabled and getting something that can help you function like a normal person and make life as equal as possible to able-bodied people isn't "special treatment." You obviously dont need the accommodations, but that doesn't mean someone else doesn't. Im sorry you see it that way, but ideals like yours are why the disabled community is still seen as a nuisance by most people. What's wrong with giving someone accommodations so their life can be as normal as possible??
@@Julia_beelll life isn’t equal for anyone. Trying to make it so is fruitless imo. The same arguments that you’re making for disabled people could be made for able bodied people with any sort of inequity (financial or emotional hardship, language barriers, etc) but there’s no special program offered for those people. Given the severity of conditions I could absolutely argue that I “need” the accommodations, and I’m sure I would be offered some sort of modification even under the new system, but I don’t do that because I know that this service is intended for a very narrow scope of disabilities. My concerns can be addressed by purchasing genie + and being responsible for my own conditions (taking medications to help with symptoms, asking cast members for leeway on return times if I’m late due to symptoms, refraining from going to the parks if I can’t get symptoms reasonably under control, etc.). This system has been so abused that now everyone is paying the consequences for it; this crackdown is long overdue. I’m glad that people are going to have to start thinking a little bit more about how they can take some responsibility for their own circumstances and less about how they’re a victim to their condition(s). I suppose it boils down to a difference in personal values and philosophies.
First I want to say how I respect your opinion and everyone is free to their own. As a army veteran, I witnessed two deaths when I was on active duty that caused severe PTSD that triggers when waiting in confined spaces or triggered by kids screaming or random noises. Despite this, I’ve been going to Disneyland for years as it’s a safe haven for me. For years, I just pushed through the heavy breathing and elevated heart rate when waiting in lines. And yes, I’ve gladly paid for genie + as well. But in early 2023, a cast member noticed how I was on the verge of having a panic attack as my PTSD has only worsen over the years and he introduced me to DAS and it has been a totally life saver. Not only does it work for ALL rides, it allows me to bring my family with my in line without needing to shell out $80-120 extra for all of us to have Genie +. This has helped me deal with my PTSD greatly as I have them with me and won’t need to decide who or who doesn’t get a genie + today. If it turns out that Disney won’t accommodate someone like me through DAS now, then I’ll pay for genie + but I do feel it’s a bit unfair that I have to pay to accommodate my own disability.
