    Bernie Grundman often mentions how the emotional impact is what he considers most when Mastering a record. Wow!!! he hit this one out of the park on Lady in Satin. The music is holographic, and Lady Day came to life before my ears and in front of my closed eyes. I am listening for the third time at this moment. I have had to wipe a couple tears. Absolutely stunning, and I am sure the way it was originally intended to be enjoyed.

    Thanks for another passionate review! I can’t wait to hear the Duke Ellington, and soon I order the Billie Holiday ❤ what a great time for vinyl collectors and fans of amazing, sonically stunning music! For us Aussie’s, I pray the shipping costs improve.. it really hurts at the moment, but I only say this because I want so badly more titles from these incredible labels. Thanks again for your fantastic feedback, I adore your channel, and the information you provide for us. Well done ☺️

    I grabbed the Ellington the last time it was in stock (2020 methinks) and I agree with you... The hall, the band, the production, the mastering, etc.... It's elite. Amazing. Easy to recommend. Chapeau, indeed!!!

    I believe "Blues In Orbit" was my first or second Analogue Productions purchase, back in 2018. It's awesome, and you can truly feel the size of the legendary Columbia 30th street Studio. Michael, I believe you haven't talked on the channel about another great Duke Ellington AP release, "Party In Stereo", am I right?

    I decided after listening on streaming to buy this album from Analogue Productions rather than search for a near mint copy with the pitfalls of using that option, I have to say it is a stunning recording, I actually sat through the whole album twice as it was so good, yes tracks are short but that is not a problem so thank you MIchael for your review...

    Hi Michael, it would be nice for you to do some Classical titles. Comparing original titles to reissues (audiophile labels), and older labels such as; Decca UK/German, Telefunken, Deutsche Grammophon, etc. I understand that Classical music doesn't have the massive sales compared to Jazz, but there are numerous Audiophiles that love classical music. And by the way, Telefunken tubes are stellar sounding 🙌

    • @musiconrecord6724
      @musiconrecord6724 Před rokem +3

      I would love that too. But, alas, very little classical is being released by the dedicated audiophile labels like AP these days. Good news is that the usual retailers still have a sampling of the AP, Speaker's Corner. etc. classical reissues in stock. I know that in videos gone by Michael reviewed many of these. In addition you might be interested in checking out my channel since I focus on classical. I tend to concentrate on the original releases, but I mention reissues when they exist. I also plan to do surveys of the reissue labels in the future.

    • @markusberzborn6346
      @markusberzborn6346 Před rokem +2

    Original pressings of “Blues in Orbit” are reasonable - I picked a Nr mint one up for £28 - and it’s a killer session and sounds amazing
    No need to go for a reissue in my opinion albeit I’m sure it’ does sound great, too.

    You have improved your lighting and it looks great! I don't know how long ago you switched cameras but this video looks great as well. There is one thing I wanted to bring to your attention though. You've got your depth of field set to have a blurry background, which is very nice, however in your past few videos the camera is doing a lot of micro-focusing in and out which may not be what you want it to be doing. It seems very sensitive to where your head, the records and your hands are.

    Hi Michael, you know we never hear about Direct-To-Disk records anymore. This was a big deal back in the eighties or at least the early eighties and there were never a huge mass production devoted to this type of recording. I would guess it must have been absolutely labour intensive for both the artists as well as the recording company and engineers when you consider the enormous pressure of orchestrating this way of capturing the "best" possible sound in one take. What are your thoughts and would you care to see it come back? Thank you.

      @@Michael45RPM I have the flu. So: There is actually some time available right now. Also: I'm really fascinated (and of course a little disappointed) by the development of this channel. In particular, that the future of music hardly plays a role anymore.
      The vinyl market was kept alive by the (electronic) underground for almost decades. On a larger scale, the so-called audiophile public has only slowly regained an awareness of the quality of vinyl in the last 10 years. More and more overpriced reissues are flooding the market and clogging the pressing plants. Sure, the audiophiles have the money. Young acts without a major contract are already switching to cassettes or not releasing physical sound carriers at all. Who wants to wait more than a year for the release?
      Of course there are also great reissue strategies, e.g. what Sam Records or Blue Note do. Curiously, their releases aren't that grossly overpriced (sure, Blue Note have it a lot easier because they publish their own catalogue).
      And one more thing: Some people tell me that I don't have to buy the stuff. However, this line of reasoning forgets that all of this has a fundamental impact on the vinyl market, the artists and everyone who is interested in music (on vinyl).
      The music industry is stylizing vinyl more and more as a fetish, a fetish for middle-aged men (like me) who have the right wallet and want to relive their youth with their old heroes (and then use superfluous terms like "grail"). Young musicians and new ideas largely fall by the wayside. In the past, they would still have been able to tour. But even this source of income has hardly been really productive since Corona.
      All of these trends, especially the gold-rush mood among large companies and everyone who thinks that one or the other cent could jump out for them, are blocking new things. But music has always managed to wash away such nasty blockages. Maybe this time too? Who knows. But of course you are right: I should shut up. At least here. It is probably not the right place for such topics.
      Best regards.
      PS: A little jazz tip as a farewell gift: Uusi Aika with their debut album of the same name from 2022. Wonderful, enchanted contemporary jazz from Helsinki, released on the fine “We Jazz” label.

      It was pressed using the metal from the Classic Records 45 RPM version by Bernie Grundman put out in 1998. Acoustic Sounds purchased Classic Records a while ago. For me, this is a tough album to listen to. Clearly, Holiday had lost much of her singing voice due to drugs and alcohol and her voice sound raspy and very unlike her early days. Yes, she still has that haunting quality but for me the sadness in her voice overwhelms everything else. Also I liked her small group backings better.
