  • My 914 is a 1974 2.0 model imported from USA. It has been fully restored and a bit modified. Current engine is a 2.3 litre with ITB's and EFI. Exhaust is a Scart Supersound muffler on stock 2.0 heat exchangers.

    I was born in 1970. My father owned a VW/Porsche repair shop in Hollywood in the mid to late 70's. When I was old enough, my mother (RIP) would send me off with him to the shop on Saturdays. I was an only child, and my mom wanted me to be close to my dad.
    I remember that after we went to McDonalds on the way to the shop, he would ask me if I wanted to go up on the lift inside of a car. I said yes, and he put me up in a 914!!!!! I was in heaven.
    As the years went by, and due to our close relationship we both enjoyed motor sport, especially F1 and CART/Indy. As a child in 78 he took me to the Long Beach GP that Carlos Reutemann won. As the car was headed to the boxes, the winning Ferrari was being pushed right in front of us and he had me touch the tire full of "marbles".
    Fast forward 30 years later I owned my own VW shop, but always had the love for the 914. I realize that at 50, that love is still strong, and plan on owning one again as soon as possible. I realize that the 914 satisfies that need. I've had the pleasure of owning 944's, and working on 356' and 912's and 911's.
    Your 914 gives me goose bumps. The sound, and the stance. I know that the 914 is known as NARP...I beg to differ. I really enjoy your videos. Please keep sharing.

      The whole 914 NARP thing has been all but dispelled with the number of Porsches built outside the factory and with non-Porsche engines (924, 912S, 924S, etc). The 914 led the pack and took the flak for breaking the "made in Weissach" mold.

      I think its a nice combination of the ITB's and the Scart exhaust silencer. Very happy with the sound and the best thing is that its only loud when I want it to be. At cruise speeds its perfectly well behaved and doesnt sound much different than a stock engine.

    Fun video. How big is a 914? Like, what modern car would you say is similar sized?
    I hear they're tiny, but they don't look that small in pictures.

    • @MatsGarage
      @MatsGarage  Před rokem +1

      The outer dimensions are close to that of an NA Miata (the first generation with pop up headlighs) but the 914 wheelbase is about 8 inches longer.

      @@MatsGarage wow.. but they look bigger than a miata even in pictures. Must be frame contour, 914 fills out the space more than miata's more round shape.
