- John Ritter comes into the hardware store looking for antique door knobs, and Lucy almost cripples him with a series of accidents, advertantly injuring his hands and foot. Lucy takes him home to help him recuperate. After the lead actress drops out, Lucy gets a part in the play John is doing at the Pasadena Playhouse.

my favorite! Priceless! Two beloved clowns! John Ritter and Lucille Ball!
John Ritter rest in peace 💜🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
So nice to see these two legends together before their passing. John Ritter was an awesome physical comedy actor. Threes Company was just great. He made many women hot in those days! Handsome man. RIP 🪦
The end made me cry with love and joy!
2:19 Both will be missed … RIP Lucy & John
Two of my very favorite stars....love it!
Lmao
"But... I guess they won't get to DO THAT, will they?"
"No."
The show didn't last but Lucy still had it!
M
I agree!!!
@@reneebraxton1032 I was more concerned with the risks at the age she was at that time but she still got it done.
This is full on John Ritter at full 110%. He must have been stoked to work next to Lucy, his comedic idol!
My heart aches for John Ritter
john was great here
How ironic that both John and Lucy died of the same ailment.
I saw all 8 episodes when they aired in 1986. The actors who played Lucy's daughter and Son-In-Law couldn't act, the kids were better than they were. The episode with John Ritter was the best one of the 8 shown. There were 5 more episodes ordered, but never filmed. Perhaps, that was a mercy. I am sorry for Lucy that this show wasn't better, but then again she was gone by 1989.
ha she weaselled her way into a show just / like the old "I love Lucy" show ! ! ! lol
Love it!!!!!
"But you're a young man! I'm old enough to be your m--nurse!"
I imagine how it would of been like if Suzanne Somers were on this show and she perform Chrissy Snow personality dealing with that Lucy. And add Joyce DeWitt in the mix to watch her going crazy dealing with Suzanne and Lucy
John Ritter died of the same thing my cousin died of. A Aorta Disection. Its rare but men between the age of 60-70 die from it. My cousins was pretty graphic when his wife came home and found him dead in the bedroom. There was blood everywhere. He bled out of his throat all over the bed. He didnt take care of hos high blood pressure and was under stress with his own company.
Ok, so this was one episode of Life with Lucy that was somewhat funny, and it had everything to do with John Ritter beingma
guest star.
Well, this particular episode was hilarious. Too bad the rest apparently weren't this good.
+Steve Levine I wouldn't say the rest weren't as good. If I remember correctly, only four episodes out of the eight episodes filmed even aired. The simple fact is, the show wasn't given enough of a chance. But, this episode had me laughing out loud in several places - so it's really sad that we couldn't see more of this!
Brutal. Honestly, this was a "so bad, it's good" experience. Lucy almost KILLED Ritter in this episode, after seriously injuring him AND force feeding him. You have to know when to bow out gracefully in your career.
It's called slapstick comedy. Honestly I thought it was pretty darn funny.
Oh, is that what it's called? The style of comedy I have been familiar with for twenty years thanks to the two comedians in this scene specifically? I am contrasting GOOD slapstick, with BAD slapstick. What they did BEFORE this makes this inferior, and if you were as familiar with these comedians careers as I am, you would hve higher standards for these comedic geniuses than this drivel.
I am quite familiar with both of their careers thank you very much, and have been for many years. It may be inferior material than what they have done in the past, but that doesn't mean it's not funny.
No, it doesn't automatically mean it isn't funny, however, this is shit in my opinion. On a serious note, it is a bit strange how there is no real scientific way to gauge what is funny or what isn't; I guess it is about consensus in correlation to a particular location. Technically, I suppose this is a comedic piece, that does indeed offer absurdity, the characters are relatively likable; I guess technically this is funny, but to me it was disturbing.
Again I get what they were trying to do here. It is almost exactly the same skit from The Ladies Man film, in which character actress Kathleen Freeman feeds Jerry Lewis breakfast in the same way. Maybe that's why it's funny to me, and somehow disturbing to you. I don't know. Though when I watched the original in The Ladies Man for the first time, it wasn't the least bit disturbing or reminiscent
of the film Misery to me, nor is this. Yes, there is no scientific way to gauge what is funny or isn't funny, that is true. Everyone has different levels of what they find funny. We obviously have different senses of humor.
the show doesn't seem too funny, especially when u compare it to I Love Lucy, but John is such a treasure.
Of course that is a matter of opinion. I was never that crazy about I Love Lucy, but pairing her up with John Ritter made me laugh so hard.
Although Lucy aged rather harshly in the face and voice, that aside, I have to say that I think I may like her character better in this show than in her previous show, HERE'S LUCY. Because in her previous show, she could be a little bit of a smart Alec and intentionally rude sometimes. But, in this show, although she's clumsy, she has a sweetness that she didn't have in that one. She is a grandmother, older, and that makes her clumsiness somehow cute in an innocent kind of way. And it's nice to see her with Gale Gordon. There's a sweetness to the fact that they are together again. Also, if it was this funny seeing her with John Ritter, just think of the other stars of the day that could have walked into the store! I wish this could have lasted longer. :-(
This one especially this scene & the one with Audrey Meadows were some of the best of this show. Lucy still had it & Gale too. The show just needed retooling. Sadly it was not to be.
I thought that was Ruth Buzzi & it was..
I don't remember the show
Where is Part 2?
Eerie that lucille ball and John Ritter died of the same causes
I recall my ex that was a big Lucy fan even thought this bad. I think Lucy was too old for this type of slap stick comedy and the writing wasn't up to the standards of those writers. As others said it isn't the worst comedy I have ever seen, like some of the comedies now but it did not meet up to these two comedy legends standards.
she did not age well, and the situations were recycled from I love Lucy, which does not work 30 year later
I think as Lucy fans we did try and give it a chance but like I said it was just sad seeing Lucy tarnish her memory with this show. I think it better to leave it alone and don't release it. If fans want to see Lucy at her best they are better to watch "I Love Lucy" reruns instead.
I agree, the slapstick was getting old and I think comedy in general for the time was heading away from it. Comedy like Golden Girls or Cosby show was funny without the dated and tired slapstick.
I am not sure if Lucy could have not done anything but slap stick as that was her style. Would have been interesting if they could had some of the Golden Girls writers, write her scripts.
Gordon Rebel uhi like it. And loved them both!❤
Lucille ball was not the greatest comedianne in my opinion, but I Love Lucy is such a classic. Without the pairing of her with Desi, ILove Lucy wouldn't have been the show it became. Her last show was so sad! Trying to be what she once was 😢. I feel she was infatuated with Ritter! He was a brilliant comedian ❤️❤️❤️
why is her voice so deep?
For some reason the voice deepens as one grows older.
unfortunately Lung Cancer.
She was a heavy smoker. It happens to a lot of elder woman. They get that smokers voice.
They're dead now.
if Lucy hadn't been afraid to shock her Lucy Ricardo fans, she would have been better off doing a show that showcased her real personality, which was much more like Elaine Strich. Of course the irony is that her Lucy Ricardo fans hated this too.
