The new generation Audi RS5 maintains the Quattro all wheel drive system, but now does away with the 4.2l V8 in favour of a lighter 2.9l twin-turbocharged V6 making the same 450PS but raising torque to a huge 600Nm. On the outside it's butch and forceful, on the inside it's luxurious and well equipped, but what's it like to drive? Let's go find out on a road route in the South of France and Andorra.

Most of the people who can afford this car, or who have owned one, are not feeling the new S and RS line.
The interiors are a different story, loving those.
A V6 is for an S5 not RS5.. I'm so glad AMG manages to keep their V8's! But for how long.. time will tell I guess

I agree with you! Audi, and porsche (in my opinion) have always maintained their essence. Porsche with rear wheel drive and engine at the back. Audi with four wheel drive. Both with their looks :D

I have an Audi A3 5 door, and it's got ONE cup holder. My guess is the RS have 0.

Will the door bins take a big bottle of water?
How about a large Suitcase? Is the load lip going to be a struggle? does it have tethering points?

kraenk12....I do as well. I really like the new design language. I bought a 2016 S3 about 6 months before they gave it a refresh that implemented the new design language. They changed the front/rear bumpers, headlights, taillights, grill, added the virtual cockpit along with a new steering wheel, updated MMI, new leather options, 7 speed trans, and a power bump of 10HP/15lbft. Although many would see the changes as minimal, I think the car looks even better and I wish I would have checked to see when those changes were coming. As you said, it looks great on the road and I it is surprising how many people tell me that my car is awesome looking. I really wish the RS5 was in my price range.

Why is it that most of the comment section is people whining about the engine in a car they'll likely never own? This car and engine are better in almost every way than the old one; faster, more torque, lighter. It doesn't sound as great but it sounds alright with the sports exhaust, and if you really care then I'm sure Akrapovic or Milltek will produce something to make the car louder.
Totally agree with you. Plus, if you can afford this you can make it sound louder and better!

People Complaining about it not being a V8. No regards to the fact that the TTV6 puts out same HP, more torque, engine is smaller so it allows the engine to be pushed back further for better handling, faster, and even gets better gas mileage.
Hard to listen to them. I respect the V8 sounds, but I like the turbo S6 and all it has to offer compared to V8

Fully expected the V6 twin turbo, but I am just surprised that they didn't further up the power. Those rims are horrible and the engine note is non-existent.

But then there’s my Tesla Model S, P100D variant. Has no sound whatsoever, but thrashes almost every car in acceleration!

I love the design. That exhaust note though, nothing can beat a V8's growl. Oh, I also like how the buttons are clicky. So satisfying to hear.
I have the new S5 in navarra blue. I can tell you that it looks a hundred better in the flesh. I too thought it looked terrible initially on videos and pics. in person, my view changed completely.

They should keep the 4 cylinders for normal Line (A), V6 for the S-models and the V8 for the RS-models imo..

Don't know why so many people are "pissed"? Wtf Audi always had their RS4s with V6 engines etc, no problem there! The car looks beautiful and the interior is amazing!! I'd go for those wheels but with the black accents.. indeed a V8T would have been nicer but the platform just doesn't have any
And maybe there'll be a performance version which is more hardcore etc and has more power

Because the smaller engine puts out more torque than the old one. Same horsepower as the old one. Allows the engine to be pushed back farther to allow for better handling than the old one. Also gets better gas mileage. It's about more than just a V8 and the sound it produces
That8oySimba9302 That's not my point..... I was not referring to the 4.2NA v8 I was talking about the 4.0 Turbo. That would have been a better choice. Allows greater use in the aftermarket. And I can tell you have never been around a V8 rs5 the v8 na was the whole point of the rs5 lol.
The 4.0TT would be awesome - and I'm sure it wouldn't fit. And the increase in weight would hurt performance.
Not to mention it is only the RS5 there is still 3 more levels of Audi to go.....

I've seen one in real life, although it was black color. The car is absolutely stunning! The video doesn't give justice to it. It just looks way better in real life.

Does anyone notice how a boundary between a regular car and a supercar is smaller and smaller every year? Like supercars don't even have a point anymore lol. The Audi coupe looks furious.
To make it clear, I didn't say I like that. All of the modern cars are overdesigned to look like they are meant for people with mid-age crisis (or horny teenagers).
Does anyone else want to see a large 5 cylinder engine in the rs5?
At first I was mad because of the change of the engine, but this V6 sounds absolutely gorgeous.. Most modern sports vehicles has too much synthetic exhaust notes, but I simply prefer to hear the natural sound of an engine through the exhaust, and the fact that this V6 sounds like it does here is just crazy. All the crackles and stuff sounds cool, but there's just something about hearing the engine alone. I think they made an excellent job with this one!
Sounds terrible compared to the c63s, there's no excuse for downsizing when mercedes isn't. There isn't a law that states "no more v8 engines".

The new RS5 has a phenomenal acceleration with the Quattro. The sound is different to the V8 of its predecessor but not bad. The new engine has its own characteristic and responsiveness is fantastic!

Not impressed at all. Wheels are horrible not what you would expect on a RS. trim around doors and windows looks so dated. Just don't get a wow factor when I look at it. 😔
The wheels are a bit weird aren't they. For though the overall design is a bit too 'chunky'.

Kinslayer Gaming I don't think they are doing it by choice. Each year I think the Co2 emission regulations are becoming more restrictive, so they are forced to downsize. Such a shame as the car is so aesthetically pleasing to look at. Just has the wrong drive train. It's so funny when he started to rev the engine he was almost lost for words and didn't know what to say at first, because it sounds like he's revving a datsun or something 😂😂😂

Daniel Simpson yeah I would believe so because the 720S has a 4.0L TT V8 and it makes a lot more power than the last gen RS5 and ferrari has the 3.9L Twin Turbo V8 in the 488 GTB and GTC4 Lusso T

The worst RS5 ever. When BMW made the new M3 a six cilynder they at least made it intersting but, but this RS5 looks worse than the last one, sounds worse than the last one and has 0 horsepower more than the last one

worst thing about the gear selector knob is the fact it is UP to Upshift and DOWN to Downshift. Seems very against the gforces. AMGs and Ms are opposite. This would drive me nuts lol.

Ari Raveen you must be blind as well as dumb. Why is everyone having a hissy fit over this having a V6? It's pretty much the move being made slowly by all car manufacturers. It means a smaller more efficient engine for exactly the same power. It's totally mind over matter and a sentimental attachment rather than a logical reasoned one.

Must agree with many others and say big NO to this once so beautiful car. If they Cant sell it with the V8 they should just have discontinued the modell all together. A RS5 with a V6 will never be a true RS5 and it sounds like any other japtunned car 👎👎👎 Shame on you Audi!!!!!!

Don't know if anyone noticed, because it's very subtle and you see it only from certain angles, but the wheel-arches are reminiscent of the original Audi Quattro.

the car looks so gorgeous!! It took me a while but the rs version of the A5 looks so nice. This Version shows shows to all the haters of the RS-Modells from Audi who complain that they look the same as the basic model. sorry for my bad english ^^
