FINANCIAL CRIMES ARE NOT “non violent:
I hope SBF gets min 25 years. I don’t think it’s fair that some broke guy will rob a liquor store and steal $200 and get 25-life.
Meanwhile White collar criminals will defraud people of their life savings and get a few years in the feds.
Martin Skrelli made an argument that he doesn’t think people like him and SBF who commit “non violent” financial crimes should go to prison.
This is short sighted, I’d say the violence followed by becoming financially crippled by a white collar criminal like BELFORT, SBF, or MADOFF is significantly worse than the “violence” of holding a shotgun to a clerk in a liquor store.
Think a little more abstractly, the alcoholism, drug abuse, domestic violence, suicides etc that stem from the crimes of these huge white collar criminals… compared to just claiming $200 on insurance for the liquor store robbery!

Not only did the FTX defendants scam more than 70x that amount, they are pleading guilty to twice as many charges as Elizabeth. Precedent says Ellison gets more than 12 years, and SBF much, much more than 20 years.
Whoever booked sam on a first class flight from the Bahamas made a huge mistake. The optics of him flying first class and being in the first class lounge enraged most people and I think removed any chance of him getting any sympathy. It told us that he thinks that he is above all of this and expects special treatment.
I remember hearing him give a phone interview and you could hear his feet splish spashing in the rhythmic babble of Bahamian shore-break, and I just thought to myself "this guy really thinks he's gonna get away with it." We'll see!

However, I just can't envisage the courts sending such a young man away for life or for the best years of his life. I feel that it was different for Madoff, he was much older and there was little sympathy for him or his family as I guess people felt that they had lived well on their ill gotten gains for so many years.

I disagree with Shkreli here. I think this speed should be the norm. With the 6th amendment, speedy trials are a necessity - i do not think it is fair we give government agencies essentially endless budgets to investigate citizens, then arrest them, then give prosecutors years to build a case. If you arrest me, try me quickly, and let us see how it goes
also, if you are innocent until proven guilty, bail and holding is illegal. I really do not know how everyone became such a bootlicker to the State

And nah dude, it is upon arrest they can start digging into data from the accused which could have tipped them off beforehand. I am sorry, but upon arrest they have probable cause and arrest right away, they do not have evidence beyond a reasonable doubt in like 99% of cases that will go to trail.
No, you can refuse to waive your right to a speedy trial and force the prosecution to take you to trial very quickly. It's just not generally done because the defense needs time too. Delays are almost always good for defense, not prosecution.
The government being slow to arrest isn't an issue because you haven't been deprived of anything until you're indicted.
