I honestly hate that Abula was forgiven. She HURT her ENTIRE family because she was obsessed with the miracle and put the candle over everything else. But somehow, that's forgivable? Is it forgivable to shut your granddaughter out of her own family for a candle? It's forgivable to force your son to make an impossible choice, either abandon his niece, or condem her to be abandoned by everyone but him because of something that isn't even guaranteed to happen to your precious candle? It's forgivable to put another granddaughter into a position where she feels she can't turn down a marriage she doesn't want? It's forgivable to force your daughter to suppress her emotions and feel nothing but happy ALL THE TIME because you don't want to look bad? IT'S FORGIVABLE to work your other daughter by constantly forcing her to cook for every injury instead of hiring a doctor for some of it and saving the magic for emergencies, so you remain the only solution and everyone needs you? It's forgivable to work yet another granddaughter every day all day lifting heavy things instead of making the townspeople do their own chores because magic is better? She did that for years because she was scared and selfish, but she was forgiven. In the end, she gets exactly what she wants, despite not really earning it. She just got it back because her FAMILY earned it and, for some reason, didn't kick her out for all the ways she hurt them.
Honestly can you blame her? She had to take care of three children, she was so overwhelmed and so protective of them. She tried to make sure the village never suffered again so nobody would die, she lost her old home and she’d do anything to stop this one from vanishing. She had to gone though depression more any of the family members had. She just wanted her family to be safe. Sure she was strict and all y’know like our parents their strict because they want what’s good for us Similary she wanted what’s good for them. Now you may say “bUt ShE eNdaNgErEd hEr FaMiLy iN dOiNg sO” like I said she went through depression and couldn’t convey her feelings because then it may cause her family to worry. She was forgiven because in the end she’s still family and the only one who has experience in taking care of the family, maybe mirabel can learn some tips and treat the family better than she did
