Rare film footage of Morihei Ueshiba training in Iwama in 1961. Among his practice partners, a young, powerful Morihiro Saito figures prominently. This video is an excellent opportunity of turning back the clock to the early training in the birthplace of modern aikido.

A little disapointing ! His technique here looks uncertain but he was very old at that time.

I believe he had great pain in all joints, as was said, from the various other martial art he was studying who were not so considerate as his developed new technic, called Aikido. He was improving it under this aspect quie a few years..

Sorry but I fear you have no idea what you are talking about. The older O'Sensei was growing the more he was improving his mastering of energy channelling. Aikido is made to use the energy and agressivity of your opponent to naturally return it against him, so at some extreme point of mastery like this man demonstrated, you do not even have to physically "touch" the other to catch him in your technique. This may be hard to comprehend for most who are used to think this as hollywood crap stuff but it is real altough almost inacessible to most humans as it pertains to start understanding your place in the universe and how your life energy is conected to everyone and everything. Moreover, at this age, Master Ueshiba was terribly ill and fought against pancreas cancer for more than 14 years without any therapy or medical treatment. Knowing this, I assume you might change your mind and reconsider what is or is not disappointing...

Nah it looks like they messed with the speed, as to make the techniques clear and identifiable, which kills all of his timing and souplesse.

@@romualdlaurenti9213what a bunch of nonsense. Manipulating the energy and ki of the others, they don't even have to touch.. You sound like a ki gong enthusiast, which is absolutely rubbish from a martial point of view. I was a student of aikido for many years, and can clearly see they were not touching, just in sync, like a beautiful dance. I believe that O sensei would have been unfortunately destroyed by a modern UFC fighter, but aikido is not about destruction anyways, it's not about fighting, but about peace, harmony, balance, respect.

Muy decepcionante, deberían ser contundentes y en vez de poner "toys young saito" deberían poner "young aikidoka cooperate with old máster"
