-Landstrykere er historien om unggutten Edevart og hans venn August. August er en eventyrer som bringer den nye tid til Polden, en fattig grend på Nordlandskysten, og snur opp ned på hele samfunnet. Hans fantasi og iderikdom, men også hans frie omgang med sannheten, skaper alt fra forhåpninger til kaos i omgivelsene. I Edevart finner August en trofast følgesvenn og beundrer, men ettervert gjennomskuer han August og blir i stand til selv og gjøre valg og ta ansvar. Deres veier skilles for så å møtes igjen.
Landstrykere skildrer også Edevarts inderlige kjærlighet til den unge vakre Lovise Margrete fra Doppen. Et kjærlighetsforhold som snart viser seg å være umulig.

Wayfarers, is the story of young boy Edevart and his friend August. August is an adventurer who brings the new time Polden, a poor neighborhood on the coast of Nordland, and turns upside down the whole society. His imagination and inventiveness, but also his free intercourse with the truth, creating everything from aspirations to chaos in the environment. In August, Edevart find a faithful companion and admirer. Their paths separated only to meet again.
Wayfarers, depicts also Edevart fervent love for the young beautiful Lovise Margrete from Doppen. A love affair that soon turns out to be impossible.

Really cool stuff, i'd read this book also bit diffrent Hunger and mysteria which are for me a masterpiece. i chase now "From the live of modern america" but i've found it only in english. all in all Hamsun rocks
