  • It's April 8, 2024, and I'm in Port Kent, NY for the total solar eclipse. Take a look through my carefully filtered lens as I watch the moon slowly cover the sun, Amtrak 68 passing eclipse tourists, and Amtrak 69 with AMTK 100 "Midnight Blue" passing during TOTALITY!
    This is probably one of my most unique and rare videos. Subscribe for more!

    Midnight Blue passing during totality couldn't have been more perfectly coordinated. Definately a once in a lifetime catch!

    Belated Wow!! Outstanding, Harrison. I finally got the chance to sit and watch this is its entirety vs snippets from Ted's computer. Loved it so much! Really gave us a more personalized experience of the totality, especially since we couldn't be up in Chaumont for it. Thank you for your hard work on this 💜. And, it sure looks to me that you got the Midnight Blue perfectly during totality. Was there another element of perfection you were striving for? Looked great to all of us, that's for sure ❤

    Bravo Harrison! You let me see the eclipse, which I couldn’t see here in Minnesota due to thick rain clouds. You sure had it timed right catching both 68 and then 69 in totality. Great job!!

    8:20 That locomotive really fit the theme of the eclipse pretty well so the timing actually worked out in your favor.

    Awesome video of the eclipse, and the trains were a fantastic bonus! It was cool to see the people all back away from the platform for the train, and go right back to waiting for the eclipse. Not railfans for sure. Thanks for being there & sharing with us.

    Even if it wasn't the prefect shot, this is still going to go down as one of the most unique ones in railfanning history. I would've killed to be trackside and not on the balcony of my house during totality.

    So the DLSRs are the ones that don't blur when zooming in and out while recording.. I always wondered, now i know what to do get when i get the money. Lol. Nice video, i didn't know you could zoom in that far with them.

    That is really insane how you got the midnight blue during the few minutes of totality. Probably could not do that again in a million years!
    Great catch!!

    Thanks so much for bringing us the eclipse Harrison! We didn't get much of anything down here in Virginia, just the impression of a slightly overcast day.
    Hey, you did just fine catching the Midnight Blue, you've got nothing to kick yourself over AND you've got a memory to last you for the rest of your life!
    Allow me a personal observation. I was just about your age in 1970 (I was 17) when the total eclipse passed up the East Coast and over my part of New Jersey. By the way, this was the "...total eclipse of the sun..." mentioned in the Carly Simon song "You're So Vain!" Anyway, you nailed exactly the way I felt when you said what you were experiencing was weird, that was EXACTLY the way I felt in 1970! And not just from the total eclipse itself but from the light of the returning sun, it had a strange silvery liquid quality to it I've never seen since. Weird all right!
    Thanks again! And look at it this way, when you're 70 you might just get another shot!

    LOVE your video during the total solar eclipse on 4/8/2024. I was one of the camera-ready passengers aboard Train #69 ("Midnight Blue" engine) and we experienced totality! As you said, it was wild! That was the most surreal sunset I've ever seen.😲 Ripples in the lake looked like bumps or more like huge welts. I captured the totality in motion aboard the Adirondack ("The Heart of Darkness," here on CZcams). Peace, man.✌🏽☮️🫶🏼 Gabby P.

      That’s so cool! The engineer kept saying to the conductor about “scaring them” during totality, any idea what they were talking about?

    • @gabrielapaulinho1luv
      @gabrielapaulinho1luv Před 3 měsíci

      @@NorthCountryTrains Haha! They were talking about the conductor's decision (or the engineer and conductor's joint decision) to shut off the interior lights -- while letting the train roll on through the totality. And so it happened. And no, we didn't know that those lights were gonna go off. Imagine, we were flying through partial darkness (literally midnight blue) and then, momentarily, through pitch-blackness, while the moon kissed the sun. Outside the right side of the train: eerie sunset over Lake Champlain (gorgeous!!!). Outside the left side of the train: midnight blue to the pitch-blackness of totality (OMG!!!).
      Man, I was too naturally tripped-out over what was happening during totality -- and with the lights turned off so that we all could experience totality (a generosity of spirit of conductor and engineer) -- to worry what if the Adirondack were to derail into Lake Champlain. ... Totally positive vibes during totality and after.
      Thank you, forever,
      Gabby

    Wow, that was excellent, I was across the lake in Burlington. The train only stops in warmer months?

    • @NorthCountryTrains
      @NorthCountryTrains  Před 4 měsíci +2

      The train hasn’t stopped since 2019, it only stops when the ferry is operating and the ferry hasn’t operated since 2019.
