      Under the previous Conservative government a newly built prison HMP Fosse Way in Wigston was open to new prisoners in late 2023.

      @@Jason1984dfgThing is Jason, we know from research that most male prisoners lack impulse control and the ability understand cause and effect. Given this, would longer sentences have a deterrent effect? I’m not sure. Serious offenders have serious personality disorders, unlike the majority of drug offenders for example.

    Population has increased in this country, but infrastructure has not. Its the same with schools, hospitals, police stations, etc. A combination of mass immigration and a decade of austerity.

He’s responsible for this mess, and now the same will happen again. Crime rates will sky rocket with criminals seeing that other criminals are being released. Starmer will destroy this country once and for all.

    Not a fan of Tories or labour,but they've only been in a week.That's a massive gamble.If violent crime(and lower level crime) sky rockets,don't be surprised. Instead of both blaming each other,build more prisons as soon as because they will be needed with such a huge rise in population.

    Most of the prisoners in our institutions are from foreign countries , surely they can be deported back to their countries of origin . They could be put in prison in their homeland , which would be far cheaper for the tsx payer .

    We could also adopt a hybrid approach where prisoners take turns at spending overnights in HMP like Levi Bellfield, Fred West, Jimmy Savile etc. Even 2 weeks onshore 2 weeks offshore. There are so many solutions if one gets creative

    Far too many men are sent to prison. The new prisons' csar is right - at least 30% should not be there.
    men are given 1.6x the sentence as women for the same offence.
    Prison doesn't 'work' anyway (other than keeping dangerous people off the streets).

      It is not possible to receive a prison sentence for using a TV without a licence, non-payment of a court imposed fine for such an offence can result in a prison sentence. I think you will find that number in prison for this is zero.

Except that 1) He wasn't his lawyer, 2) There's no evidence Kier was ever even informed about the case against Savile being dropped, and right-wing media has gotten so desperate they made a childish photoshop of Kier meeting Savile and 3) The fact that defence lawyers may represent some bad people isn't a mark against them. You may as well say it's a black mark against any doctor that ever treated Savile.

      I don't know this Jimmy savilles, but Jimmy Savile was a friend of both the current king and the party now in opposition. Knighted in 1990 by his pal Margaret Thatcher. It's a bit rich trying to claim that the reason he wasn't convicted of his heinous crimes is Keith's fault.
