- “Whoever does the most horrendous crimes can't be dealt with because there's no place to put them, we need something better than that”.
Labour needs to do "more" than letting prisoners leave without the right reform, says Former Victims' Commissioner Dame Vera Baird.

Labours prison crisis? Oh thats right, Keirs been in charge for 14 years....
Who's releasing the prisoners? Keir. Labour.
@@fiddlecastro1453 The Tories were also going to release prisoners Because of their mess.
So he's building more prisons then?... oh thats right instead he's releasing prisoners!...
Thats all on him. Not the tories. Their not in power anymore. Keir is and this is his solution?!...
@@fiddlecastro1453ok then bright spark do you want to keep millers and rapists on the streets because there’s no room in prisons unless we release people early who shouldn’t be in prison in the first place
@@fiddlecastro1453 Because they have no other choice while new prisons are being built. It's the conservatives fault.
It’s not Labour prison crisis.. they’ve only been in the chair for a week..🙄🙄🤭🤭😎
Under the previous Conservative government a newly built prison HMP Fosse Way in Wigston was open to new prisoners in late 2023.
Tories also closed a huge amount of prisons @@dragonfly6908
@@dragonfly6908 wasn't that just a rebuild and rebrand of Glen parva
@@seanjones180Looks like they demolished Glen Parva and built this new prison with an extra 250 places.
@@dragonfly6908 yea so kinda doesn't really touch the sides.. And the new build went wildly over budget.. Contracts for mates again I guess
The title of this clip is incorrect: it should read 'The Tory Prison Crisis is dumped on the Labour Government.'
The tories are not the ones who put people in prison the courts are.
That’s the Tories for you, imprisoning people who break the law and therefore increasing the prison population.(nothing to do with drugs,of course). Perhaps labour should follow the example of prosecutors in Democrat run cities in America and simply refuse to imprison criminals, just keep giving them suspended sentences.
One of many time bombs left by Torries
So what, still a crisis you buffon
It wasn't the Tories who put people in prison... There's a separation between state and judiciary.
Laughable title
here's an idea: build more prisons + make prisons less of a holiday camp.
And longer sentences for serious crimes. The prisons would be less full if there was an actual deterrent for committing crimes.
@@Jason1984dfgThing is Jason, we know from research that most male prisoners lack impulse control and the ability understand cause and effect. Given this, would longer sentences have a deterrent effect? I’m not sure. Serious offenders have serious personality disorders, unlike the majority of drug offenders for example.
@@Ben-jq5oo you don’t think that if you’re convicted of carrying a knife, the sentence was a minimum of 10 years, that would not stop kids carrying knives. Of course it would.
And stop allowing convicted criminals from other countries to move to the UK
@@Jason1984dfg It would work for some, but not for all. I’m thinking of the aggravated burglary, assaults, sexual offences, for example.
Population has increased in this country, but infrastructure has not. Its the same with schools, hospitals, police stations, etc. A combination of mass immigration and a decade of austerity.
Sorry, but LABOUR'S prison crisis? Isn't that title ridiculous considering they've been in office for a week???
Welcome to being in power. People dont care how a problem arose they are only interested in the solution.
Their decision to release prisoners early.
Oh grow up. I'm sure you were front and center at the start of the Tory's reign saying the same thing.
It is their problem now.
Under the previous Conservative Government a newly built prison HMP Fosse way in Wigston was open to prisoners in late 2023.
Well if Labour don't own the crisis who does? Welcome to government. Get on with it.
"Labour's prison crisis"
I will never forgive Keir Starmer for using his Delorean time machine to go back 14 years and instigate this prison crisis.
What could possibly go wrong. They have already released a grooming gang leader
Can they not build camp facilities in a month or so? Like they did for COVID?
Uk prisons are better than some peoples holidays because they keep going back - the uk is a joke
This isn't Labour's prison crisis, it's the Tories prison crisis that Labour has inherited.
So why did Labour do nothing when tony Blair was in power not Tory who had this problem

Great, now I feel even less safe than I already do 😣
If there are only 700 spare places in prison that is more than enough for our corrupt politicians without letting any others out.
The criminals must be having a great laugh. I'm betting the probation service won't be able to cope with the number of new clients either.
The tories did this so now labour has to fix it
@@XMan-qu5kl starmer did this when he decided on soft sentencing guidelines when he was in charge of the CPS, giving criminals no deterrent. Now he’s just releasing them back into society.
@@Jason1984dfg The truth doesn't fit the narrative 😉
@@airwolf8915 people don’t like the truth. Crime rates went up drastically after Starmer was in charge of the CPS and he changed the sentencing guidelines. He’s responsible for this mess, and now the same will happen again. Crime rates will sky rocket with criminals seeing that other criminals are being released. Starmer will destroy this country once and for all.
@@Jason1984dfgThe conservatives had 14 years to change the guidelines why didn’t they do that?
Not a fan of Tories or labour, but they've only been in a week. That's a massive gamble. If violent crime(and lower level crime) sky rockets, don't be surprised. Instead of both blaming each other, build more prisons as soon as because they will be needed with such a huge rise in population.
What's a massive gamble? The release of these prisoners is not a policy change. They haven't started their reforms yet.
Im in Russia, live Samara. Prisoners in Russia forced to fight, men off the street grabbed and forced to fight, it is just a madness 😢

Labour Government problem?? We have jiust experienced 14 years of egotistical Tory government (is government the right word?) so it is not the new government's problem. A reminder, 14 years of Tories, and yes it does take a long time to build a prison, and the Tories were around for a long time.
Wow! how did Labour destroy the perfect prison system they inherited from the tories in just over a week in power? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Most of the prisoners in our institutions are from foreign countries , surely they can be deported back to their countries of origin . They could be put in prison in their homeland , which would be far cheaper for the tsx payer .
how can 14 years of neglect suddenly become another's parties fault and this was exactly what the tories were going to do shame you didnt hold the tories to account
England's Prime Ministers Crisis that should read!
Not just now for ages!
It is NOT the solution
If only we had hundreds of thousands of young fit men with nothing to do all day,all desperate i am sure to give something back to the country that has taken them in and housed, fed and cared for them.im sure they could help build these prisons
the govt says that they cant afford new infrastructure,,look at what the country forks out a week for immigrants...do they not get it whatever party it is..
We could also adopt a hybrid approach where prisoners take turns at spending overnights in HMP like Levi Bellfield, Fred West, Jimmy Savile etc. Even 2 weeks onshore 2 weeks offshore. There are so many solutions if one gets creative
Far too many men are sent to prison. The new prisons' csar is right - at least 30% should not be there.
men are given 1.6x the sentence as women for the same offence.
Prison doesn't 'work' anyway (other than keeping dangerous people off the streets).
I can guarantee you that won't be the narrative. It will be women should be released....

Release anyone who is in prison for not having a TV licence.
It is not possible to receive a prison sentence for using a TV without a licence, non-payment of a court imposed fine for such an offence can result in a prison sentence. I think you will find that number in prison for this is zero.

You may as well say it's a black mark against any doctor that ever treated Savile.
If that was true then you could say you paid for Savilles rapes to happen with your TV licence fees (in the UK we don't have lawyers btw)
I don't know this Jimmy savilles, but Jimmy Savile was a friend of both the current king and the party now in opposition. Knighted in 1990 by his pal Margaret Thatcher.
